Emmerdale slapped with HUNDREDS of Ofcom complaints for homophobic abuse scenes - with viewers sobbing as character brutally beaten and conned out of cash

Emmerdale has been slapped with hundreds of Ofcom complaints after scenes of homophobic abuse.
Viewers of the soap were left sobbing after character Vinny Dingle, played by Bradley Johnson, was brutally beaten before being conned out of money in a recent episode.
In recent scenes, Vinny - who is engaged to a woman - expressed confusion over his sexuality and began speaking to a man who he met on an online support forum.
And in an episode which aired last week, Vinny realised that Mike, the man had been talking to online, actually had a dark ulterior motive and ultimately showed up at Vinny's house before attacking, blackmailing and stealing from him.
According to The Sun, 279 people contacted Ofcom with concerns over the episode, with the complaints objecting to 'violent and sexual content before the watershed'.
Vinny had started speaking to Mike online after feeling confused about his sexuality.
But out of the blue Mike turned up at Vinny's home, claiming that his girlfriend had thrown him out of the house.
The situation took a dark turn when Mike started verbally abusing Vinny about his sexuality.
Mike then attacked Vinny, brutally kicking and punching him and leaving him shaking on the floor.
In an even more painful turn, Mike then forced Vinny to send him £10,000, blackmailing him with secret recordings he had taken of Vinny confessing to being confused about his sexuality.
Vinny, who is engaged to female character Gabby Thomas, played by Rosie Bentham, felt he had no choice but to obey the demand. Mike also stole Vinny and Gabby's wedding rings, before making a run for it.
Viewers were left in tears by the episode, with one writing: 'How powerful were the Vinny scenes last night?
'So sad seeing poor Vinny get beaten again - for nothing. He was being vulnerable and honest in who he is. Hope Mike gets his comeuppance!'
'I knew there was something fishy about that bloke when Vinny first met him. But I wish #emmerdale hadn't got as dark as this. I much prefer the old,' another said.
Viewers were left in tears by the episode, with one writing: 'How powerful were the Vinny scenes last night?'
It comes after a huge Emmerdale star quit the ITV soap - and will be written out as his character makes a 'fatal mistake that exposes their true colours'.
Actor Oliver Farnworth, 43, has played John Sugden in the Dales since 2024.
In recent weeks his alter-ego has been involved in a bit of drama, and last month Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) battered his long lost brother John to the ground in a brutal attack.
Since Robert returned to the village earlier this year, the pair haven't seen eye to eye as John has tied the knot with Robert's ex Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
After 144 episodes on Emmerdale as the paramedic practitioner, he's ready to take on other roles.
A source told The Sun: 'It's the beginning of the end for John.
'He's got away with so much but he's about to make a fatal mistake that sees him exposed for what he is.
'Obviously Oliver knew that a character like John had a shelf life and that's rapidly approaching.

Ten-foot drone came so close to Heathrow passenger jet that pilot and first officer SAW it pass windshield

A ten-foot drone came so close to colliding with a passenger jet that it covered the plane's windscreen. The Airbus A320 had just taken off from London 's Heathrow Airport back in May and was at 9,000 ft when the near-miss occurred, The Sun reports. A report into the incident by investigation bod UK Airpox Board said: 'Both the Captain and First Officer saw a bright white object pass overhead from the opposite direction. 'It appeared to be approximately 2-3 metres in size at the very least.' The report added: 'It may have been larger as it filled a good proportion of the windshield.' The report added that the aircraft was spotted on radar by air traffic controllers. The in-flight incident investigation body was told a suspected drone had been spotted near London's City Airport prior to the incident. 'The Captain only saw the object for a second or two in peripheral vision so could not reliably comment on the shape. No markings were identified.' The pilot stated that the object 'went over us, probably within about 10m'. It is not clear which airline was operating the aircraft. It comes after a drone came within 10 to 20 metres of colliding with a Boeing 737 airliner as it approached Gatwick Airport in April. In a separate incident, a suspected drone came within 10ft of crashing into a British Airways passenger jet flying over London. The plane, operated by the airline's regional carrier BA Cityflyer, was travelling at 3,000ft four nautical miles north west of London City Airport, when pilots noticed an object with lights. The crew of the Embraer 190, which can carry up to 98 passengers, reported spotting the object at 6.10pm on October 31 after climbing out of the east London airport on a route used for domestic services to Edinburgh and Glasgow. While the incident was reported to police, the nature of the object was never formally identified. According to a report filed by the UK Airprox Board, which monitors and analyses near misses, said that both pilots 'instinctively flinched' as the object came 'extremely close' to the aircraft. The report concluded the incident meant there was a 'definite risk of collision' and or required 'providence', an instinctive pilot judgement in response to an emergency situation. In recent years, pilots have warned of the risk of drones causing potentially catastrophic damage if sucked into a jet engine or smashing into a windscreen.

Judi Dench, 90, is set to front her own TV show where she enjoys drinks with longtime pal Kenneth Branagh - after scaling back acting due to sight loss

Judi Dench has landed what may be considered showbiz's dream job, as she's set to appear in a Sky Arts special where she enjoys drinks with one of her celebrity pals. In Drinks With Dame Judi, the Oscar winner, 90, will open up her stunning country home to her longtime friend and collaborator Kenneth Branagh, 64. While the programme has been filmed as a one-off, to hit screens later this year, Sky have shared hopes that there could be more episodes in the future. The show will be 'peppered with archive and anecdote,' as both Judi and Kenneth look back at the lighter, and more serious, moments of their illustrious careers. Phil Edgar-Jones, executive director of unscripted, said: 'We are starting a series, I hope, with Judi Dench. It was going to be called Champagne with Judi but Compliance said no. 'The first one she is going to do with Kenneth Branagh.' While best known for her stage work and Hollywood roles, including playing M in eight James Bond films, and her Oscar-winning turn in Shakespeare In Love, Judi has featured in a string of documentaries in recent years. These shows include a 2017 documentary about her passion for trees, and in 2019 she travelled to Asia for the ITV series Judi Dench's Wild Borneo Adventure. In recent years, Judi has been forced to scale back her acting roles after struggling with sight loss. The veteran actress first revealed in 2012 she is suffering with macular degeneration in her eyes, which can cause permanent and rapid central vision loss, and is the number one cause of vision loss in people over 50. Earlier this year, Judi revealed that her sight has now deteriorated to a point where she needs the help of a guide when she leaves the house. During a 2021 event for the London-based Vision Foundation, Judi opened up about how she struggles to read scripts due to her rapidly fading vision. She said: 'You find a way of just getting about and getting over the things that you find very difficult. 'I've had to find another way of learning lines and things, which is having great friends of mine repeat them to me over and over and over again. 'So I have to learn through repetition, and I just hope that people won't notice too much if all the lines are completely hopeless!' Judi also told The Graham Norton Show about how she battles to memorise lines as she used to rely on her photographic memory. She added: 'I need to find a machine that not only teaches me my lines but also tells me where they appear on the page. 'I used to find it very easy to learn lines and remember them. I could do the whole of Twelfth Night right now.' The veteran actress has not acted on the big screen since 2022's Allelujah, limiting her screen appearances in the past few years to documentaries, where she appeared as herself. And in May, she admitted that she has no future projects in the pipeline while struggling with her ailing sight. Asked if she has any plans for more acting jobs, Judi told a journalist at the Chelsea Flower show: 'No, no, I can't even see!' But towards the end of 2022, she had refused to give up and insisted she wouldn't be retiring anytime soon - despite admitting the condition even then was 'bad'.

Rolls-Royce has driven a Phantom into a pool because Keith Moon did it once

Rolls-Royce has driven a Phantom into a pool because Keith Moon did it once RR parties like a literal rock star by plunging its big boi into a lido Skip 14 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 14 The Rolls-Royce Phantom is 100 years old in 2025, and to celebrate, Rolls-Royce has driven one straight into a swimming pool. Because The Who drummer Keith Moon famously did just that in the 1970s. Well, at least that's what the legend will tell you. Regardless of whether or not it happened, Rolls-Royce considers it a special enough story to recreate for Phantom's big 100th anniversary. The famous Art Deco building sits next to the English Channel, and is itself linked to another music legend: it featured in a picture taken of a band called 'The Beatles' – yup, us neither – back in 1967. 'Over the last 100 years, music artists have used Phantom to project their identity and challenge convention,' said Rolls-Royce boss Chris Brownridge. 'Their motor cars often became icons in their own right, with a lasting place in the history of modern music.' Indeed, it's reeled off a list of musicians with connections to the Phantom. Elvis bought a Phantom V in 1963. Lennon too, famously repainting his in yellow. Liberace bought a 1961 V and covered it in 'tiny mirror pieces', with the car later appearing in the biopic Behind the Candelabra. Sir Elton John – heard of him? – bought a Phantom V and Phantom VI, the former resplendent in pink and white which he later gifted to his percussionist, the latter bought on the spot on the way to a concert in 1973. 'This enduring connection reminds us that Rolls-Royce and the extraordinary people who are part of the marque's story are united by one ambition: to make their presence felt,' Brownridge added.
