Apple's alleged powerful AI models could be hallucinating more than the company would like, report says
The reception surrounding Apple Intelligence on the iPhone 16 series phones, as well as iPhone 15 Pro models and other compatible iPads and Macs, has been somewhat of a mixed bag. While many have praised the intelligent suite for its quality, many have said that the experience is bare-bones and not up to the mark, certainly compared to offerings by Google and others. This has led to the common belief that Apple may be lagging in terms of artificial intelligence. However, a Bloomberg report has now come out that says Apple is consistently working on improving its on-device AI systems. It is currently working on AI systems that are much more capable and powerful than the on-device capabilities it currently ships on an iPhone. But not all has been smooth sailing for the company. Here are the details. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple is currently working on different AI models, with much more power compared to the current AI suite, and is reportedly testing models with 3 billion, 7 billion, 33 billion, and 150 billion parameters. The report also adds that in order to ship on devices like smartphones, Apple needs to make its on-device models smaller. The more complex tasks are on the cloud, and this is why the company could be working on a cloud-based model as well. The report further says that the primary concern for Apple at this point has to be hallucinations with its AI models, and this is why the company may have delayed releasing its most advanced AI capabilities. Another reason which could have influenced the delay of Apple's cloud-based AI model, and a more refined Siri, could be internal debate about the models. So, as things stand, it remains to be seen what AI-related announcements Apple will make at WWDC and whether they relate to these recent AI developments. What we do know so far is that Apple might keep a low profile when it comes to AI announcements, possibly to avoid a repeat of last year's situation, where it showcased several features but was only able to deliver a few. Barring that, users can expect major redesigns across iOS, macOS, and other platforms like iPadOS, at least in terms of aesthetics. These updated platforms are expected to feature translucent AI elements, similar to those in Apple's visionOS, which powers the company's latest mixed-reality headset. Google Pixel 10 will launch in a few months from now, here is everything we know about it
2025 is a major year for Pixel smartphones, as it marks the arrival of Google's tenth-generation Pixel devices — the Pixel 10 series. Over the past few months, leaks and reports have given us a fair idea of what to expect, and now, there's talk of an earlier-than-usual launch. According to recent developments, Google may unveil the Pixel 10 lineup as early as late June or sometime in July. Traditionally, Pixel phones were launched in October, but last year's Pixel 9 series broke that pattern — the devices were announced in August and launched in September, just ahead of the iPhone 16 series. This time around, the Pixel 10 could arrive even reported by the Android Authority, Google is hosting a Pixel Penthouse event in London on June 27. This event is part of the Pixel Superfans programme, where a select group of fans will get hands-on access to upcoming Pixel devices. While the invite doesn't name the Pixel 10 series directly, it's highly likely that this is what's in store. The Pixel 9a has already launched, and the only major product left in Google's pipeline right now is the Pixel 10 series — including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro while lucky Pixel fans get a sneak peek, the official launch could happen as early as July, or at the latest, in August — just like the Pixel 9 series last One of the most talked-about upgrades expected with the Pixel 10 is its shift to the new Tensor G5 chip, which is rumoured to be built by TSMC. If true, this could be a huge improvement to the Pixel's performance. TSMC's manufacturing process may finally help solve the heating issues and battery inefficiencies seen in past Tensor chips, bringing Google closer to the performance levels of flagship Snapdragon at software, the Pixel 10 series is likely to debut with Android 16 out of the box. As seen with Android 15, AI will play a central role once again. Expect generative AI features to take the spotlight, especially within the camera and editing tools. One such rumoured feature is Video Generative ML, which could allow advanced video editing within Google Photos. Other tools may include Speak-to-Tweak, enabling users to edit images via voice commands, and Sketch-to-Image, which can transform rough drawings into lifelike visuals — all powered by on-device the camera department, Google is rumoured to finally add a triple-lens setup to the base Pixel 10 model — a first for a non-Pro Pixel. That said, it seems some compromises will come with the upgrade. According to the Android Authority, while the base Pixel 10 is expected to include a telephoto lens, its overall camera hardware may fall below the Pro standards. In fact, several sensors appear to be more in line with what we saw on the Pixel 9a. The primary sensor could be a Samsung GN8, replacing the larger GNV used also word of changes to the supporting sensors. The ultra-wide camera is expected to be downgraded from the Sony IMX858 to the IMX712, a sensor also found on the Pixel 9a. These tweaks may affect overall image quality, particularly in low light, since smaller sensors generally capture less detail. Of course, Google's software and AI-driven image processing might help bridge the gap — but only to a certain extent. Meanwhile, the telephoto lens could be an 11-megapixel Samsung 3J1, previously used in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and the selfie camera is said to remain unchanged from last year. While the Pro models are expected to keep the same hardware, improvements may still come through a new custom image signal processor built into the Tensor G5 don't expect anything drastically different. The Pixel 10 series is likely to stick with the look and feel of the Pixel 9 lineup. The flat sides, camera bar at the back, and slim bezels up front are expected to stay. Google may make the phones a hair thinner this year, but overall, the design language will be for pricing, Google may be making a few adjustments here and there. According to Android Headlines, citing a source familiar with the matter, the standard Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro could launch at the same price as their predecessors — Rs 79,999 and Rs 99,999 respectively. The Pixel 10 Pro XL, on the other hand, might see a $100 increase, starting at $1,199 (roughly Rs 1,02,400). For context, the Pixel 9 Pro XL launched in India for Rs 1,24,999. That said, the interesting bit is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which could launch at a lower price point than last year's model — possibly starting at $1,600 (roughly Rs 1,36,500). For context, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold launched in India for a mind-boggling Rs 1,72,999.
