NexG bags four Home Ministry contract extensions worth RM45.5mil

KUALA LUMPUR: NexG Bhd, formerly Datasonic Group Bhd, has secured four contract extensions from the Home Ministry for the continued supply and maintenance of passport and identification card services.
Two of the extensions, awarded to its subsidiary Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd, are valued at a combined RM45.54 million.
The other two are time-only extensions with no additional contract sum, the company said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.
A six-month extension, effective until May 31, 2026, was granted for the supply of MyKad, MyTentera and MyPOCA raw cards and consumables to the National Registration Department (JPN), with a third ceiling contract value of RM29.68 million.
Meanwhile, the company's contract to maintain card personalisation centres at JPN received a 14-month extension with an additional ceiling value of RM15.86 million.
The remaining two contract extensions involve the supply of Malaysian passport documents and polycarbonate biodata pages to the Immigration Department.
All contract extensions will take effect from Dec 1, 2025.

In a statement, NexG executive chairman and CEO Datuk Hanifah Noordin said the company is achieving further expansion momentum with the acquisition of a factory, office, and warehouse asset strategically located near its PJ 223 Manufacturing Centre. 'This acquisition forms a critical part of our planned RM250mil investment into Industry 4.0 secure ID documents production, to significantly boost our capacity and meet growing international demand for secure identity infrastructure. 'Furthermore, by consolidating our R&D and production activities in the same area, we can achieve greater operational efficiency, cost savings, improved quality control, and increased production capacity. 'Through the strengthening of our production capabilities, along with our substantial investments in AI and other next-generation technologies, we are accelerating NexG's transformation into a regional leader in physical and digital identity markets,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year-old project manager from Selangor has become an instant millionaire after winning the RM14.6 million Power Toto 6/55 Jackpot on July 6. The man won the jackpot using a set of numbers derived from his and his girlfriend's MyKad numbers. In a statement, STM Lottery Sdn Bhd said the winner had been using the same combination for the past three years, ever since he first met his girlfriend. "I always play Lotto games with this winning set of numbers – 4, 8, 11, 18, 20 and 29, and I usually buy eight draws in advance. "I combined our MyKad numbers and the personal connection has made the win feel even more surreal," the man said when collecting his prize at the company's head office. He said he was unable to sleep after checking the results on Sunday and realising he had won. The winner also revealed that he has yet to inform anyone about his windfall, saying he needed time to come to terms with becoming a multi-millionaire.
