Here's a good hypothetical question: If the Tampa Bay Rays make this year's postseason, where would they play their home games?

If you answered with a blank stare or a confused shrug, don't feel bad. Apparently, Major League Baseball and the Rays would both have the same response.
'If the season ended today, they would be in the postseason,' USA Today's Bob Nightengale wrote of the 35-30 Rays, 'but with no idea where they'd play their home games.'
Tampa Bay entered Monday in a three-way tie atop the AL Wild Card race. The Rays, Minnesota Twins, and Toronto Blue Jays are all 35-30, half a game ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.
Unlike the Twins and Blue Jays, though, the Rays haven't played a single true home game. Instead, the Rays are spending the entire season at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the New York Yankees' spring training home, after Tropicana Field suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Milton.

Nightengale reported that MLB officials are 'optimistic' that the Rays will resume playing at the Trop next year, but that won't mean much come October.

Although Steinbrenner Field has done an adequate job thus far, it seems unlikely that Major League Baseball would permit postseason games in a stadium that barely fits 11,000 people. Petco Park in San Diego hosted the ALCS in 2020 amid the pandemic, while the NLCS and World Series were played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Ironically, the Rays played in both stadiums that October because they won the AL pennant.
However, there is a significant difference between 11,000 fans attending a playoff game due to a global pandemic and 11,000 fans attending a playoff game because the stadium itself only holds that capacity.

Theoretically, the Rays could make the move down south and play any potential postseason home games at Marlins Park, given that the 24-39 Marlins are unlikely to make the playoffs.

It is unclear if Major League Baseball would consider relocating the Rays' playoff games to an out-of-state venue. Could the Rays attempt to clinch the AL pennant at, say, Truist Park in Atlanta?
Whatever the case, all parties still have some time to figure things out. However, months will quickly become weeks, and at the Rays' current pace, the league would be wise to have a plan in place by mid-August.

Home Run by Cardinals' Pagés Rewards 12 Bettors with $83,334 in Bonus Bets

The St. Louis Cardinals series-opening 11-4 win over the Detroit Tigers Monday night turned out to be significant for a number of reasons. The Cardinals not only proved they could compete with the owners of MLB's best record, but thanks to Pedro Pagés two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, 12 lucky DraftKings bettors walked away with $83,334 in bonus bets. Beginning May 2, DraftKings Sports book has been running a 'King of the Diamond' promotion on select days, allowing participants to earn a share of $1 Million in bonus bets. Advertisement Those who opt-in, select anywhere from one to five players to hit a home run. If that player hits a home run and their team is the highest scoring team in the majors that night, participants win a share of the $1 Million prize. 12 participants selected Pagés to hit a home run Monday. Because Pagés was the only St. Louis player to hit a home run and the Cardinals put up 11 runs, the most of any MLB team that night, the 12 participants each won $83,334 in bonus bets. St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Gordon Graceffo (44) and catcher Pedro Pages (43) celebrateJeff Curry-Imagn Images Adding to the rarity, the 26-year old catcher isn't exactly known as a 'power hitter.' Through Wednesday, Pagés has 10 home runs in 322 at-bats, giving him a career HR/PA (home run per plate appearance) rate of .029. By comparison, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has a HR/PA rate of .073. Advertisement Pagés did slug 16 round-trippers in 117 games with Double-A Springfield in 2023, but has never eclipsed 20 home runs in a full professional season since being drafted in the sixth round by the Redbirds in 2019. For those interested, the next DraftKings 'King of the Diamond' promotion is expected to occur Friday, May 23. Related: Cardinals Make Encouraging Announcement on No. 3 Prospect

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Gets Last Laugh After Cardinals Video Board Troll

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Gets Last Laugh After Cardinals Video Board Troll originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Minutes before the St. Louis Cardinals were set to take on Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday afternoon, a video was played on the Busch Stadium video board looking back at a historic moment in Cardinals postseason history. Advertisement It was a highlight of Matt Adams' three-run home run off Kershaw in the seventh inning of Game 4 of the 2014 NLDS. Adams' heroic blast not only propelled the Cardinals into the NLCS against the San Francisco Giants, but it came off the eventual 2014 NL MVP Kershaw, who had finished the regular season 21-3 with a 1.77 ERA and 239 strikeouts. The timing of Sunday's video troll, however, didn't sit well with some Cardinals fans. "Probably not a great idea to piss off a hall of famer," one user suggested on 'X.' "Sadly that seems to have made Kershaw just lock in" another wrote. "And then got it shoved up their asses by a 38-year-old soft, tossing left-hander who struck out almost half the outs that he got," another fan lamented. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22) pitches against the St. Louis CardinalsJeff Curry-Imagn Images Kershaw, who is 37-years-old, was flat out dominant Sunday, allowing just one run in five innings of work in the Dodgers 7-3 win. It was his first victory since August 18, 2024, which was also at Busch Stadium. Advertisement He threw 82 pitches, gave up six hits, and struck out seven batters, bringing his total to 2,983, just 17 shy of 3,000 for his career. Only 19 pitchers in Major League Baseball have accomplished that feat. With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 36-29 (22-11 at home) on the season and are four games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central and one game out of a wild card spot. St. Louis will next host the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-game set beginning Monday.
