Syria's Al-Sharaa Discusses Regional Affairs with Bahrain's King
Syria's President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and a high-ranking delegation visited Bahrain on Saturday and met King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa at the Sakhir Palace in Manama, according to SANA News Agency.
Both leaders discussed Syrian-Bahraini relations and ways of fostering the bilateral ties along with other regional affairs and means of supporting Syria's security and stability.
Importantly, Al-Sharaa's visit to Bahrain comes days before US President Donald Trump's expected trip to the region for talks with leaders of Gulf Arab nations.
The visit also comes after Al-Sharaa's trip to France on May 7 based on an invitation from the French President Emmanuel Macron, marking his first European visit, according to Reuters. Intensified Efforts
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December, the new Syrian government has been seeking to restore relations with Western and Arab countries and build new diplomatic relations to boost its stability and security.
Moreover, the new leader has been pushing for the lifting of international sanctions.
The British government has recently lifted sanctions on Syria's interior and defense ministries marking the latest easing of sanctions following Assad's fall from power.
Syria's General Intelligence Directorate, Air Force Intelligence Agency and National Security Bureau were also emitted from the list of entities subject to financial sanctions by the U.K, according to Reuters.
Such sanctions were primarily due to the repression of civilian population or 'supporting or benefiting from the Syrian regime.'
In this regard, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa stated that lifting sanctions would prevent another civil war in Syria.
'Any chaos in Syria will damage not just neighboring countries but the whole world,' Al-Sharaa said.

North Korea internet hit by a major outage, analyst says
North Korea's internet is experiencing a major outage on Saturday, said a UK-based researcher, adding that the cause may be internal rather than a cyberattack. North Korea's main news websites and its Foreign Ministry internet site were inaccessible on Saturday morning, according to checks by Reuters. 'A major outage is currently occurring on North Korea's internet — affecting all routes whether they come in via China or Russia,' said Junade Ali, a UK-based researcher who monitors the North Korean internet. Brazilian President Describes Israel War on Gaza as ‘Premeditated Genocide'
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday condemned Israeli war on Gaza and called it a 'premeditated genocide,' during his visit to Paris, according to Al-Jazeera. Premeditated Genocide Lula noted that the Israeli military campaign had killed at least 52 people in its latest attack on Gaza. 'This is not a war. It is genocide. A genocide being carried out by a highly trained army, against women and children' Lula said at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 54,500 Palestinians and wounded more than 119,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Swiss National Bank Denies Currency Manipulation after Being Put on US Watch List
The Swiss National Bank does not engage in currency manipulation, the central bank said on Friday, after the United States added Switzerland to a list of countries being monitored for unfair currency and trade practices. "The SNB does not engage in any manipulation of the Swiss franc," the SNB said after the publication of the US Treasury Report on Thursday. "It does not seek to prevent adjustments in the balance of trade or to gain unfair competitive advantages for the Swiss economy," it added, according to Reuters. The SNB said it remained in contact with US authorities to explain Switzerland's economic situation and monetary policy, and would continue to use interest rates and forex market interventions to pursue its inflation target. The central bank declined to say whether further talks with the United States were planned, but said it acted in the interests of Switzerland, where it aims to keep annual price increases within a band of 0-2%. "Our monetary policy is geared towards the needs of Switzerland," the SNB said.
