AN iconic rocker has revealed that one of his biggest hits was almost "never written".
Travis frontman Fran Healy, 51, opened up on the origins of 1999 festival favourite Driftwood.

The red-headed singer told how the song was inspired by an episode of legendary US sitcom Cheers.
However when he rushed upstairs to document the tune, the musician forgot to hit record on his device.
He said online: "Driftwood almost didn't get written. I was washing the dishes, thinking about that TV show Cheers.
"There was an episode where Norm was talking about overhearing the boss, talking about getting rid of all the driftwood.
"I sung it out loud, just out of nowhere, while I was washing the dishes.
"Ran upstairs to record it, but I actually accidentally pressed pause instead of record.
"So when I came back to listen later on in the day, all I could hear was me walking away from the recorder.
"And I sat for about an hour while this thing went through.
"And you can hear me in the house, faffing around. And then eventually, just before the tape ends, I sing it as I'm walking up the stairs.
"And had I not sung that tiny little, you know, driftwood little bit, it would be gone forever. And it's one of my favourite songs."

It comes weeks after Healy was rushed to hospital after suffering from a horror injury at a gig in the US.
The singer was wheeled out of the venue on a stretcher after their show on Monday night.
The iconic band were on their Raze The Bar North American Tour which kicked off in January.
Travis were playing at the Showbox in Seattle, Washington, when Fran twisted his ankle stepping off stage while waving goodbye to the crowd.

He has seemingly spent a week at her South London home despite the legal row launched by his father Jeff, 46. Freddy, 20, was just four-years-old and his EastEnders actor brother Bobby, was five when their mother Jade Goody died from cervical cancer in 2009. The Big Brother legend passed away at the age of 27 after a seven month battle with cancer and he has since been raised by his dad. Mescudi's testimony was dominated by the January 2012 incident when his Porsche was blown up on his driveway by a Molotov cocktail, which he accused Combs of being responsible for. The trial opened up with powerful testimony from Ventura, Combs' ex-girlfriend of over a decade. The singer, 38, emotionally spoke about how Combs forced her to participate in weekly drug-fueled sex marathons, which he called "freak-offs," with male escorts. Ventura, who said she did not want to engage in the sex acts, told the court her music career took a backseat due to the toll the "freak-offs" took on her day, testifying how she needed days at a time to recover. "What separates sex trafficking from normal sex? Adults, of course, can consent to any type of sex, no matter how freaky it is. But sex trafficking has one of three elements: force, fraud, or coercion. "And the government is saying that Diddy used force to force these men and women to participate in these freak-offs, and he coerced them by drugging them. "The least serious charge is the prostitution, sometimes called the Man Act, and that's engaging in prostitution using some sort of interstate commerce across state lines. That obviously is unlawful. 'It is something that the SPS should be reviewing as a priority with a view to limiting the availability of these films.' Elsewhere, the Scottish Conservatives are urging SNP ministers to order jail chiefs to remove the X-rated flicks. Shadow justice secretary Liam Kerr MSP said: 'Ordinary Scots will be appalled that inmates are being provided with X-rated movies by prisons. 'England and Wales banned 18-rated movies and TV shows from their prisons 12 years ago and it is about time that the Scottish Prison Service followed suit. 'Many of the prisoners at Barlinnie will be behind bars for violent crimes, so it is common sense they should not be able to access graphically violent material about serial killers and torturers. 'Prisoners trying to get clean will also not be helped by having access to content that promotes drug use. 4 Scottish Conservaites shadow justice secretary Liam Kerr blasted the SNP Credit: Alamy 'SNP Ministers must intervene and immediately direct the SPS to remove violent or sexual films from our prisons.'
