Foreigner held for allegedly molesting bus passenger
MELAKA: A bus passenger was allegedly molested by a fellow passenger as they travelled on an express bus from Kuala Lumpur to the Melaka Sentral bus terminal here.
The incident involved a 19-year-old university student, who claimed that she was touched by a foreigner while travelling home from her college in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
According to her police report, the victim was seated next to a 39-year-old male Bangladeshi.
During the journey, she fell asleep briefly and awoke to the unsettling sensation of someone caressing her right thigh.
The victim confronted the suspect and demanded that he stop touching her.
However, he allegedly continued his inappropriate behaviour.
Angered, the victim recorded the act on her mobile phone.
In the 100-second video, the victim is heard rebuking the man in English, saying, 'I told you so many times to stop touching me and you still continue.'
The footage also shows the suspect placing his left hand on her thigh.
The victim then approached the bus driver and reported the incident to him, while also informing the police.
An assistant driver confronted the suspect, who claimed he had unintentionally touched her while he was asleep and apologised.
He was subsequently instructed to move to a seat at the rear of the bus.
The suspect, a cleaner based in Alor Gajah, was arrested by police officers upon arrival at the Melaka Sentral bus terminal here at about 8pm the same day.
Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging the modesty of an individual.
The incident follows another case on May 22, in which a 21-year-old undergraduate was allegedly molested by a Pakistani restaurant helper on the staircase of an apartment block in Bukit Beruang.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit was quoted as saying that the 31-year-old suspect was arrested by officers from the Ayer Keroh police station after the victim lodged a report that same day.

It was reported that the 32-year-old suspect had allegedly murdered the victim and set fire to several vehicles at his in-laws' house before he had surrendered himself to the police. The suspect had walked into the Bukit Gambir police station at 7am on June 3 and reportedly told the police had slashed his wife and committed arson. He had been remanded for seven day s to facilitate investigations into the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 435 of the same Code for committing mischief.

DAP to issue statement on Teoh Beng Hock case, says Loke
PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said his party will issue a statement on the Teoh Beng Hock case soon. He however did not indicate a specific time for the statement's release. "We will issue a statement," he said at a press conference after the Higher Education Ministry's Ilmuan Malaysia Madani forum titled "Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport." Yesterday, it was reported that the sister of Teoh Beng Hock demanded transparency and accountability from the authorities after the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) and police decided not to pursue further action in the 2009 case. Beng Hock's sister, Lee Lan expressed her dismay over the decision for no further action (NFA), especially given that multiple court rulings had established the death was not due to suicide or an accident. She said that the Court of Appeal had ruled in 2014 that Beng Hock's death was caused by the actions of individuals, including Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, and demanded that the police investigate the case under the proper criminal provisions. She also called for those currently in the government to act appropriately as they had in the past stood by the fact that he was killed. Last month, the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement called for DAP's five ministers to resign in protest over the NFA. Association chairperson Ng Yap Hwa said the ministers - Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Sim Chee Keong, and Hannah Yeoh - should take responsibility on the party's behalf for failing to fulfil promises to seek justice for Beng Hock. Beng Hock's family had earlier been informed by police that their latest investigation into the case had been classified as requiring no further action or NFA. On Nov 21 last year, the High Court had directed the police to complete their long-delayed investigation into the death more than 15 years ago. Beng Hock died on July 16, 2009 at the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, after being questioned for hours by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). An inquest was held and the coroner returned an open verdict. However, the Court of Appeal in 2014 ruled that his death was caused by "one or more persons unknown", including MACC officers. In 2019, police launched an investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. Prior to 2018, two special investigation teams were set up – one in 2011 and the other in 2015 – to look into Teoh's death, but both cases were classified as NFA by the public prosecutor.

Man believed high on drugs attacks wife with electric guitar
TAWAU: A man suspected of being under the influence of drugs allegedly assaulted and threatened his wife with an electric guitar and scissors at Kampung Tanah Merah, Merotai Besar here, yesterday. The 44-year-old suspect reportedly became enraged at 7.13pm after his 36-year-old wife confronted him over suspicions of drug use involving syabu. Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the man struck the victim's right shoulder with an electric guitar and then pointed scissors at her, threatening to stab her multiple times. He added that the suspect also punctured all four tyres of his wife's car to stop her from leaving to lodge a police report. "However, thanks to the swift action by police, the suspect was arrested near their home around 11.35pm following the victim's report," he said in a statement. Jasmin said police also seized the electric guitar and scissors used in the incident. "The suspect is now in custody to assist with investigations under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation," he said.
