Observer14-04-2025

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has launched the National Awareness Campaign on the Hazards of Weather and Tsunamis in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate
Under the slogan 'Your Awareness for Your Safety,' the campaign is being implemented in partnership with the National Emergency Management Committee, the Ministry of Information, and the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority.
The campaign is being coordinated with the Office of the Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Ministry of Health.
The campaign that will run from April 14-17 aims to raise awareness among the community and stakeholders about the risks of weather, climate change, and tsunamis. It also aims to enhance public awareness of the multi-hazard early warning system, provide comprehensive guidance on proper emergency response, and strengthen community response and individual capacity through training and events.
The campaign will cover the Wilayats of Sur, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, and Masirah. It targets representatives of government and private entities in the governorate, as well as representatives of civil society organizations, charitable organizations, and groups.
It will guide them in optimally managing the risks associated with these phenomena.
The campaign will be implemented across four main axes: meetings and seminars, practical exercises, participation in various activities and events in the governorate, and awareness-raising brochures.
Abdullah bin Rashid al Khadhouri, Director General of Meteorology, stated, "The climate challenges facing the world today require a concerted effort and continuous awareness-raising initiatives from all of us, and this is what this national campaign seeks to achieve. Through it, we seek to deliver clear and simplified scientific messages that enhance individual awareness and promote preventative behavior in the face of climate change. We at the Authority also continue to develop the meteorological and early warning system using the latest global technologies to ensure accurate alerts and rapid response, ensuring the protection of lives and property."
