Swans defender faces AFL ban over homophobic slur
First-year player Andrew, the younger brother of Gold Coast star Mac Andrew, used the slur during the Swans' VFL clash with North Melbourne on Saturday.
The AFL Integrity Unit is investigating the matter.
In a statement, Sydney said a remorseful Andrew understands the language he used is unacceptable and takes full responsibility for his actions.
Swans chief executive Tom Harley said the club are extremely disappointed in the 20-year-old's actions.
"This behaviour does not reflect the values of our club, and we take this matter very seriously," Harley said.
"While it is disappointing, we recognise that Riak is at the beginning of his career and we will use this as an opportunity to provide support and education, to ensure Riak understands the impact of his words."
Andrew's slur comes as Sydney prepare to hold their annual celebration of LGBTIQA+ communities, when they host Essendon at the SCG on August 2.
"In a fortnight we will be playing in the Pride Game, a match that is incredibly important to our club," Harley said.
"We are committed to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment."
Andrew was taken with pick No.55 in last year's draft and is yet to make his AFL debut.
Earlier this month, West Coast midfielder Jack Graham was found guilty of conduct unbecoming and suspended for four matches for using a homophobic slur during his side's loss to GWS.
Another three AFL players were suspended for using homophobic slurs last season.
Gold Coast defender Wil Powell (five matches) and Port Adelaide forward Jeremy Finlayson (three) served bans over incidents in AFL matches.
St Kilda's Lance Collard served a six-match penalty for "unprompted and highly offensive" slurs towards two Williamstown players in a VFL game.

Sydney FC in shock swoop for Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller
Sydney FC are in talks to sign former Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller in what could be one of the greatest marquee coups in A-League history. Müller, 35, is a free agent after departing Bayern, the only club he has ever played for, at the end of the recent FIFA Club World Cup after more than 500 games across nearly two decades, and is seeking a new experience to round out his career. Though reports have linked him to Major League Soccer in the United States – and some have gone as far as to say he has already made up his mind – this masthead can reveal that the Sky Blues have been in discussions with Müller and his representatives for several weeks about an A-League switch, and that they remain an outside chance of convincing him. An answer either way is expected within the next week or so, with the club recently informed that they are one of the final two options he is considering. The other is in MLS, and that is believed to be his favoured option, but Sydney are still in with a shot. Sources with knowledge of negotiations, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Müller – a 13-time Bundesliga winner, two-time UEFA Champions League winner, and part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup – had been impressed with the pitch made to him by Sydney FC. Two of his former teammates are already at the club: Brazilian star Douglas Costa, who he played with between 2015 and 2017 at Bayern Munich, and the retired Alexander Baumjohann, Sydney's head of player management who spent a year on the books at Germany's biggest club and is believed to be spearheading the attempt to sign him. His recruitment would be an enormous boon for the financially stricken A-League and for Sydney FC, whose board has undergone an off-season restructure with the departure of long-time chairman Scott Barlow. Jan Voss, a German-Australian business executive and president of Ferrari Australasia, has replaced Barlow as chairman, while the club's foundation chairman Walter Bugno – hugely influential in their 'Bling FC' era – is back on the board as a director. No A-League club – not even the Sky Blues – can compete with the wages that Müller would be able to attract in the US or elsewhere; like any high-profile player who decides to move to Australia, it would involve him prioritising the low-key lifestyle he would be able to enjoy in Sydney over money.

The son of AFL great Byron Pickett lights up local league with amazing 20-goal haul
The son of AFL premiership hero Byron Pickett has bagged 20 goals in a staggering day out for his local club, Western United. Byron Pickett Jnr plays in the Western Eyre Football League in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, and hit the magical 20-goal milestone in his team's 267-point belting of Thevenard Football Club on Saturday. Adding to the occasion, it was the league's Indigenous Round, and the Tigers were proudly wearing their club's Indigenous jumper. 'A special round to be a part of,' Pickett Jnr said on social media. Pickett Snr is of course an AFL great after having a distinguished career for North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and then Melbourne. He played 204 games and retired at the end of 2007, after appearing in premierships for North Melbourne (1999) and Port Adelaide (2004). In 1999 he was an All-Australian and his 2004 grand final performance resulted in a Norm Smith Medal and an inaugural AFL flag for Port Adelaide. But before his time in the AFL, Pickett Snr also played on the Eyre Peninsula. Pickett Jnr started this season in the Port Lincoln Football League, but in May he decided to transfer to Western United. It was a good decision, too, with the Tigers on track for a flag this year, sitting pretty on top of the ladder and undefeated after 10 games. Pickett Jnr is also starting to run in some hot form. In his second game for the club he slotted eight goals, then, a couple of games later, he bagged 10, and then, the following week. he kicked 14 against the Ceduna Blues. From his six games so far he's booted 56 goals and sits comfortably on top of the league's goalkicking ladder. To demonstrate Western United dominance this year, Pickett's teammates Tom Woods (31 goals), Zane Scripps (27 goals) and Harlee Chandler (25) are also sitting in the top five of the league's best goalkickers.
