US star Chen will not defend Olympic figure skating gold in Italy
Reigning Winter Olympic men's figure skating champion Nathan Chen of the United States says he will not defend his crown at next year's Games in Italy. Chen told the Los Angeles Times in a story published Saturday that he will continue to pursue a medical career rather return to competition next year for the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. "I just want to open doors to kind of see what's the best sort of approach for me," Chen told the newspaper. "And frankly, at this point in time in my life, I've already accomplished enough in skating that I'm quite satisfied with my career." Chen, a six-time US champion, won men's world titles in 2018, 2019 and 2021 and helped the US team capture gold in Beijing in 2022 as well as taking his men's crown. The 26-year-old graduated from Yale University last year and is seeking medical school programs. Known as the "Quad King" for his skill at quadruple jumps, Chen holds the combined world record score of 335.30 from the 2019 Grand Prix Final at Turin. Chen is looking to work in cardiology or oncology. "The basis of being a doctor, I think, is to help people," Chen said. "I think that's something that I didn't necessarily feel as an athlete." js/bb

Caitlin Clark Reacts to Aliyah Boston News on Tuesday
Caitlin Clark Reacts to Aliyah Boston News on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever have found unexpected success with Caitlin Clark out of the lineup. Clark has missed ample time this season, playing just 13 games in her second season in the WNBA. Despite missing Clark from the roster for a significant period, the Fever have won five straight games. Fever star Aliyah Boston has taken over for Clark, finding success while gradually improving on the offensive end as both a scorer and facilitator. On Tuesday, the Fever announced Boston had been named the most recent Eastern Conference Player of the Week. "Your @WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Aliyah Boston," posted the official social media account of the Indiana Fever. "@aa_boston recorded three straight double-doubles in our three wins during the week of July 28-August 3." After the announcement, Clark took to social media, sharing the news about Boston and showing respect to her Indiana Fever teammate. Despite her injury-marred second season, Clark was a WNBA All-Star captain as a result of being one of the top two in fan voting. She has been an All-Star in each of her pro seasons. Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and a team-leading 8.8 assists per game for the Fever. Clark is the team's second-leading scorer behind Kelsey Mitchell. Boston has been the backbone of the Indiana Fever's success this season. Boston has led the Fever to wins over the Seattle Storm, Dallas Wings, Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces during their five-game win streak. In her third season in the WNBA, Boston has averaged 15.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared.
