Doctor found dead at flat, police suspect suicide

Kochi: A doctor at a private hospital in Aluva was found dead in a flat in Marampally near Perumbavoor on Friday morning. Police identified the deceased as Meenakshi Vijayakumar, 37. According to them, prima facie it was suspected to be a case of suicide. The woman seems to have injected herself with a medicine for anaesthesia, said police. "A bottle and syringe were found near the body. We have not found any evidence so far indicating foul play. There were no signs of any struggle. She was staying alone and the flat was locked from inside," said an officer. Her body was found by her colleagues who went to check on her after she failed to turn up for duty and answer phone calls. "According to the security guard, she usually ordered dinner most days but did not do so on Thursday night. It is suspected that she died sometime in the night," said an officer. "We have not found any suicide note. Her phone is locked and an analysis might give us more insight. The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy," the officer said. Her body will be handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday. Suicides are preventable and help is a phone call away. Those in distress can call Maitri at 0484-2540530.
