Anwar calls for united front to strengthen Bumiputera entrepreneur development
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he had emphasised this point when receiving a courtesy call from Malay Traders and Entrepreneurs Association (Perdasama) president Mohd Azamanizam Baharon and his delegation yesterday.
'During the meeting, I stressed the rationale and commitment of the government regarding the Bumiputera development agenda, which needs to be understood and embraced by all associations, including Perdasama.
'The government welcomes the proposed initiatives put forward by Perdasama, and I am confident that this strategic collaboration will have a greater impact in strengthening the Bumiputera business ecosystem and expanding the country's economic opportunities,' he said.
The Prime Minister added that as an association representing 27,263 Bumiputera companies, Perdasama has played an important role in harnessing the energy, expertise, and networks among its members. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Online scams in Malaysia have caused a staggering RM1.12bil in financial losses in just the first half of 2025 alone, says the Home Ministry. Earlier on August 5, the Digital Ministry said online scam financial losses in 2024 reached a worrying RM1.58bil, a 2.53% increase from the year prior. The Ministry said the government would further intensify its efforts to curb online scams in the country, which include strengthening the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC). This would involve the creation of new positions involving various schemes, taking into account the establishment of the 24/7 Network function under a single governance entity. 'Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also agreed for the NSRC to be placed under the direct supervision of the Home Ministry. 'It has been decided that it will be led by the police,' the ministry said in a parliamentary written reply dated Wednesday (Aug 13). The ministry was responding to a question from Yuneswaran Ramaraj (PH-Segamat) on the amount of money lost by Malaysians due to online scams and the steps being taken to address the issue. It also said that the feasibility of drafting a Cybercrime Bill is currently being studied as part of efforts to combat cybercrime in the country. The ministry added that the SemakMule portal, which enables the public to check bank account numbers, phone numbers and companies used by scammers, currently has 265,869 bank accounts, 211,265 phone numbers, and 12,724 company names recorded.

‘Deeply worrying culture': Anwar vows swift action over rise in extreme behaviours
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep concern over the rise of extreme behaviours in the country, citing recent violent incidents such as the assault on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and cases of bullying that have resulted in deaths. 'This culture is deeply worrying. I give my assurance, as stated by the Home Minister and the police, that they will act swiftly, decisively and transparently to take action and put an end to this harmful culture,' he said in the Dewan Rakyat today. Anwar said this before responding to a question from Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (PH-Balik Pulau) during the Minister's Question Time, who sought clarification on the rationale for the rationalisation of Petronas' asset portfolio and the company's strategies in facing global market uncertainties. Earlier, Muhammad Bakhtiar strongly condemned the attack on the family member of the former economy minister. 'I urge the police and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice,' he said. Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that Rafizi's son was assaulted in an incident at a shopping mall in Putrajaya, believed to have occurred at around 2pm in a passenger pick-up and drop-off area. Bitcoin surges to record high above US$124,000
TOKYO, Aug 14 — Bitcoin hit a record high on Thursday during early Asian trading, surpassing US$124,000 (RM520,000), driven by favourable US legislation and a rise in US equities. The cryptocurrency rose above its previous July record, briefly exceeding US$124,500 before retreating. US stocks ended higher Wednesday, with the S&P 500 index and the tech-heavy Nasdaq reaching new heights this week, contributing to the cryptocurrency's rise. Bitcoin's value has recently soared, fuelled by US regulatory changes under US President Donald Trump, a strong backer of the crypto sector. Its price has also been boosted by large holders of cryptocurrency, referred to as 'whales'. 'The crypto market is enjoying a period of highly favorable fundamentals,' said Samer Hasn, senior market analyst at 'President Donald Trump has moved to end restrictions that previously prevented banks from doing business with companies flagged for reputational risk concerns, a category in which crypto firms were often unfairly placed,' he added. Trump may also be inclined to 'accelerate the integration of cryptocurrencies into the national financial system and lift additional restrictions, given his and his family's growing involvement in the sector', Hasn said.
