49ers DB could reignite feud after blatant troll of Eagles WR duo 49ers DB Ji'Ayir Brown insinuates he could cover Eagles star WR duo
It's funny how things change. Had you polled most Philadelphia Eagles fans about ten years ago, they would have probably told you they have the utmost respect for the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers.
Both teams wear gold. Sure, they're different hues of gold, but gold nonetheless. Once upon a time, it seemed that those weren't just team colors. They were standards, but that is no longer the case.
It's hard to respect the Niners and the Pack now. Both teams lost recent playoff games in Philadelphia, including the NFC Championship Game ahead of Super Bowl 57 (San Francisco) and last January's NFC Wild Card Game (Green Bay). That wasn't the upsetting part. What was most disturbing was that they couldn't take the losses and move on.
Neither team is technically a rival, but both are definitely on Philadelphia's most wanted list, and recently, a Niners defensive back fanned the flames of an already consuming fire.
Ji'Ayir Brown trolls A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith on social media.
Youngsters these days... They can't stay off social media. They, at times, lack self-awareness. Welcome to Ji'Ayir Brown's portion of the conversation.
Most Birds fans have never had a problem with him. He played for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He hails from Trenton, New Jersey. He could have said anything and gotten a thumbs-up from the Philadelphia faithful. Instead, he decided to wear the black hat in an attempt to antagonize them.
Clips that were shared initially by Brown are circulating. They contain two plays showing Ji'Ayir playing tight coverage on A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in coverage.
Okay, perspective is needed here. A few things need to be stated, and they must happen immediately. First, while Brown plays well on two carefully selected plays here, no one believes that he can consistently stick with A.J. and DeVonta in coverage.
Ji'Ayir Brown doesn't even believe he can stick with A.J. and DeVonta in coverage. Per Pro Football Focus, he boasted a 69.5 coverage grade and a 53.6 run defense grade. Those numbers rank 33rd and 105th among 171 qualified safeties, respectively. He also missed seven tackles. It's safe to assume that, if A.J. and DeVonta line up across from him, Philadelphia's duo would win on the play more often than not.
Here's something else to mull over. Brown entered the 2024 NFL season as San Fran's presumptive starting safety, but after struggling, he was benched in favor of rookie Malik Mustapha. This year, he may be needed by his team again. Mustapha is recovering from a knee injury, and Talanoa Hufanga left during free agency. Perhaps that's where he should center his focus.
Philly doesn't play the 49ers during the regular season. Boy... Could you imagine if they did? Maybe they'll cross paths during the postseason. It feels like it's about time for another grudge match.

49ers rookie LB has already impressed Fred Warner in limited time together at OTAs

49ers rookie LB has already impressed Fred Warner in limited time together at OTAs San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner is one of the best in the league at what he does, and that's earned him All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors four times in his seven years since the team took him in the third round (No. 70 overall) of the 2018 NFL draft out of BYU. His performance earned him a three-year, $63 million extension with San Francisco this offseason, making him the highest-paid linebacker in NFL history. With that, it's not easy to impress Warner, but rookie linebacker Nick Martin has done just that in the early parts of the 49ers' offseason program. "I've loved everything that Nick's been about since he's arrived," Warner said during a recent media availability. "I heard the whole story about how he said he had my jersey before coming on the team... He's come in and he's asked me every single question known to man, like 'Fred, how are you doing this? What are you doing after practice? What are you doing after lift?' [He] wants to be a part of those things, and [he's not] afraid to ask those questions. "I've seen the athletic ability flash already on the field in the way that he closes space really quickly. He already has the great mindset of wanting to learn, so I'm really happy with where he's at." Martin, 22, was a three-star recruit out of Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas, before committing to Oklahoma State for the 2021 season. With the Cowboys, he appeared in 35 games over four years, recording 203 tackles (24 for a loss), seven sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered. He also earned All-Big 12 honors in 2023. San Francisco selected him in the third round (no. 75 overall) of this year's draft to not only help make up for Dre Greenlaw's departure, but also to fill in for Warner as the team's defensive signal caller, if necessary. Martin is projected to start his rookie year as a starter alongside Warner, and he's already started to prove himself to a player that he clearly grew up admiring on his journey to the pros. He'll have a chance to do that even more as the offseason program continues. More 49ers: Bryce Huff's teammate explains why it 'wasn't a great marriage' with Huff and Eagles

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Reveals 2025 'Motivation'

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Reveals 2025 'Motivation' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Motivation comes in a lot of different forms, and for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, he doesn't have to look too far to find it. Advertisement A serial winner ever since he stepped into the starting role, Mahomes and the Chiefs have been the gold standard for winning in the NFL for the past six the ending to last season was tough to take. The 40-22 Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was brutal, and such was the manner of the loss, some think the Chiefs' era is now over. As the Chiefs prepare for the 2025 season, Mahomes knows that last year's loss can be the fuel that fuels the team's fire as they look to embark on a redemption tour. "Every team's different, and you don't want to miss an opportunity, but when you lose a Super Bowl, I think there's sometimes in those workouts where you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder," Mahomes said Advertisement "I think it'll be good for us at the end of the day. Looking back, you want to win the game, but a lot of these guys hadn't lost one, hadn't ended the season on a loss, so I'm sure they'll be motivated to go back out there and try to find a way to get to the Super Bowl and win it this year." Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Losing a Super Bowl in the way Kansas City did, the ego and pride would have been severely dented, and now the outside perception of the Chiefs has changed drastically. We aren't there yet in thinking the Chiefs are about to fall off a cliff, but others do, and that in itself is ample enough motivation for professional athletes. Advertisement Couple that with what could easily be described as a humiliating Super Bowl loss, the Chiefs and Mahomes don't have to look too far to find the motivation to push forward in 2025. Having been at the top of the NFL mountain for so long, the crown is beginning to slip. However, one thing we know about this Chiefs team is that when faced with criticism, as they are now, they more often than not bounce back. But can they do it one more time with an aging roster? We're about to find out. Kyle Pitts landing spots: Chargers, Titans best fits if Falcons trade TE

Kyle Pitts landing spots: Chargers, Titans best fits if Falcons trade TE Show Caption Hide Caption Greg Olsen believes Travis Kelce 'controls how he leaves the game' Former NFL tight end Greg Olsen has high praise for Travis Kelce and shares when he believes Travis Kelce will eventually retire from the NFL. Sports Seriously Kyle Pitts is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Will the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft remain in Atlanta for the entirety of the 2025 NFL season? Multiple teams have reached out to the Falcons about the possibility of trading for Pitts, per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz. Atlanta would prefer to keep Pitts but would consider moving the 24-year-old for a Day 2 pick. Pitts' production hasn't quite lived up to his top-five status. He recorded a 1,000-yard season as a rookie but hasn't eclipsed 667 yards in three seasons since. He has just 10 career receiving touchdowns, though he logged a career-high four in 2024, a season during which he logged 47 catches for 602 yards and graded as Pro Football Focus' 44th tight end among 74 qualifiers. Given Pitts' youth – he won't turn 25 until October – and with his hyper-athletic 6-6 frame, several teams around the NFL could consider bringing the Florida product into the fold in hopes of tapping into his potential. Here's a look at the top landing spots if Atlanta decides to move Pitts. Justin Herbert loves throwing to his tight ends, as 23% of the Chargers' 491 total targets last season went to players at the position. The Chargers have a couple of solid, veteran tight ends on the roster in Will Dissly and Tyler Conklin, but they could use a higher-ceiling player like Pitts to add upside to the room. Cam Ward thrived throwing to Elijah Arroyo – a 6-5, mismatch weapon – during his lone season at Miami. The Titans have similarly sized threats in Josh Whyle (6-6) and rookie Gunnar Helm (6-5) on the roster, but Pitts is more athletic than the duo of recent mid-round picks. It's also worth noting new general manager Mike Borgonzi was not a part of the front office that selected Whyle or current starter Chig Okonkwo (6-3, 238 pounds). That could lead Tennessee to search for a veteran upgrade as it looks to support Ward during his rookie season. The Patriots are building around Drake Maye but don't have many proven weapons at the position. One way to mitigate those issues would be to run a lot of two-tight-end sets, something new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has done successfully throughout his career. Pairing Pitts with Hunter Henry would give New England a dynamic tight end duo. The Patriots still have a league-high $67.3 million in cap space, per so they could afford to absorb Pitts' deal and sign him to an extension. STEFON DIGGS: Mike Vrabel says Patriots 'aware of' boat video Here's another AFC East option for Pitts. The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly had trade discussions with the Dolphins surrounding veteran tight end Jonnu Smith. If Miami moves Smith, that would leave Pharaoh Brown and Julian Hill as the team's top options at the position. Pitts would provide a suitable replacement for Smith and would add much-needed size to a receiving corps that features the smaller-stature duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Sean Payton is always looking for players to operate in the "Joker" position on his offense. The role is designated for hybrid players who can create mismatches across the defense by lining up in various formations. The Broncos already acquired one "Joker" in the offseason by signing tight end Evan Engram. Why not make it two by adding Pitts? It's easy to imagine him unlocking his full potential given how Payton was able to develop Jimmy Graham – perhaps Payton's most notable "Joker" – into an All-Pro talent. The Eagles were able to keep Dallas Goedert for the 2025 NFL season despite rumors he could be traded. That said, he is set to turn 31 in January and will be a free agent following the season. Pitts' contract will expire after the season as well, but Howie Roseman could still target younger tight end as a potential successor for Goedert.
