Sony's profit rises on robust performance for music, films and games
Tokyo-based Sony said its annual profit totalled 1.14 trillion yen (£5.1 billion), up from 970.6 billion yen in the previous fiscal year.
Annual sales were virtually unchanged, inching down to 12.957 trillion yen (£66 billion) from 13.020 trillion yen.

One area that lagged among Sony's sprawling businesses was the financial segment, where revenue stalled.
But its film division and its imaging and sensor solutions segment did well.
Among the films that fared positively at the box office for the fiscal year through March were Venom: The Last Dance, featuring the Marvel Comics superhero, and Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, an action comedy in which Will Smith and Martin Lawrence come back in their popular police roles, the fourth instalment in the series.
Sony, which makes the PlayStation console and game software played on that machine, also marked healthy results in the gaming business.
Its music operations, which also held up, include recordings, streaming services and music for games.
The top-selling recorded music project for the latest fiscal year globally was SZA's SOS Deluxe: LANA, followed by Beyonce, Future & Metro Boomin and Travis Scott.
For the Japan music business, the top-seller was Kenshi Yonezu's Lost Corner album, followed by offerings from Stray Kids and Six Tones.
For the January-March quarter, Sony posted a 197.7 billion yen (£1 billion) profit, up 5% from 189 billion yen in the same quarter in the previous fiscal year.
Sales were 2.6 trillion yen (£13.3 billion), down 24% from 3.48 trillion yen.
Sony is forecasting a nearly 13% drop in profit for the fiscal year through March 2026, to 930 billion yen (£4.75 billion), on 11.7 trillion yen (£61 billion) sales, down 2.9% on-year.
Sony stocks lost 3% in Tokyo morning trading.

Actor Robson Green and presenter Carol Smillie trialled ancient paddle boards on Loch Earn in Perthshire for Robson Green's Weekend Escapes. Piotr Gudan, who runs Blairgowrie-based Outdoor Explore, introduced the pair to coracles for the third season of the BBC Two show. The unusual round-shaped boats were historically used for fishing and ferrying people and goods in Speyside. Robson Green's Weekend Escapes sees the English actor, 60, 'find wellbeing and adventure in wonderful places' with 'famous friends'. Previous episodes have seen Robson take on an assault course in North Yorkshire with Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams, explore the Lake District with TV presenter Helen Skelton and go kayaking with former Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara. Last month, Green was joined by presenter and Invictus Games medallist JJ Chalmers at Perth restaurant Brown & Blacks. The Soldier Soldier actor also visited Broughty Ferry for the show alongside Dundee-based Gladiators star Sheli McCoy. Piotr said he was approached by the production company looking for something 'rare and exciting' to do in rural Perthshire. He told The Courier: 'My favourite part was being able to take two lovely people out on the water, in crafts they would normally not come across. 'Passing on my love of the great outdoors, Scottish heritage, and the Perthshire countryside. 'He (Robson Green) is such a lovely person. 'It was a very relaxed atmosphere created by the whole amazing crew. 'It was fantastic to hear that Robson was already quite well familiar with Perthshire from his previous projects and visits. 'This place is amazing.' The TV stars explored Loch Earn and St Fillans with Piotr, who says he hopes to have passed on some of his knowledge of the area and ancient coracles. The boats he uses are built in Perthshire using willow framework in a round or pear shape. He said: 'Heritage crafts have always been something I have had a passion for. 'My storage is packed with some amazing gems. 'Coracles, however, have taken a special place amongst all those. 'I am sure the first one I sat on brought a huge smile to my face, testing my balancing and canoe paddling techniques. 'Now, introducing these crafts to many more folk over the years, I am pretty sure the coracles brought smiles to all faces of those who tried them.' Piotr added: 'Over the years, Outdoor Explore has had the pleasure of working with various production companies, for daytime TV shows, regional and national promotional filming and documentaries. 'All were always focused on the amazing countryside of Perthshire, Tayside and the east of Scotland. 'It's a privilege to become an ambassador for this lovely part of the world, which we help to look after and inspire others to explore with us.' Family of tragic Glasgow DJ who died from childhood cancer launch research fund
Niamh Jobson had been battling a rare form of childhood bone cancer when she died aged 22. The family of a young DJ who died from a rare form of childhood bone cancer have set up a research fund in her memory. Niamh Jobson, a Glasgow-based DJ and model, passed away aged 22 in Hong Kong on January 17. She had been battling osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer, for seven years. Despite enduring chemotherapy and losing her leg to the disease, she moved to Glasgow and became a prominent figure in the city's music scene. Her family has set up the Niamh Jobson Research Fund to raise money to advance crucial research and treatments for osteosarcoma - which mainly affects children and young adults. The initiative will launch at Glasgow's SWG3 on Saturday, June 28 and feature sets from artists Kairogen, Danny Greenman, Timescape, VXYX, Harry Mawby and LAZLO who all shared the stage with Niamh. Niamh became well known for producing and playing dance music in Glasgow in iconic dance venue Sub Club. Her family and fellow artists say they continue to feel her absence every day but through the research fund, they hope to turn grief into action. Her brother, Finn Jobson, described her as 'my best friend and partner in crime". He said: "I will never get over the loss of my best friend. Watching her suffer from this heinous disease, while powering through with her impressive and promising career cut far too short by osteosarcoma. "Creating this fund and launching it in a very 'Niamh' manner, we will be able to assist her dream of helping kids in this position get another chance at life, while also pushing her unique underground club techno sound to the people of Glasgow. She was my partner in crime and we will carry on living like Niamh." Her dad Jonathan previously told how she had been taken to casualty aged 16 after experiencing pains in her leg.
