Volkswagen has introduced the Golf GTI in the Indian markets at an introductory ₹ 53 lakh (ex-showroom). The hatchback is a rather large one and looks unmistakably like a VW. What's different is the futuristic-looking connected LED DRL, which merges into and illuminates the VW emblem.

The front grille gets a honeycomb mesh pattern with five of the slots on either flank being LEDs which act as fog lamps. At the centre of the grille is placed the radar sensor. There is also a red accent line along the connected LED DRL, highlighting the sporty nature of the car.

The interior of the Golf GTI is spacious by hatchback standards. However the interior of the iconic car remains subtle. There are modern touches like a toggle type shifter, a floating touchscreen infotainment display, a customisable digital drivers display and a modern steering wheel with a minimal VW emblem.

The alloy wheels on offer are sized at 18 inches and wrapped around with low-profile tyres, The wheels have 5 spokes on the wheel. The rear bumper is complemented by a sporty diffuser and dual exhausts, highlighting the car's sporty look.

The workhorse inside the Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This setup sends about 245 horsepower and delivers a peak torque of 370 Nm to the front wheels.

The Golf GTI can very well qualify to be a daily driver car for the enthusiast. It gets about 380 litres of boot space and a close-to-negligible loading lip. In terms of dimensions, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is 4,289 mm in length, 1,789 mm in width, 1,471 mm in height and holds a wheelbase of 2,627 mm. The ground clearance of 136 mm is low for Indian roads.

VinFast confirms launch plans for India with VF7 & VF6. Bookings open this month

The VinFast VF7 and VF6 will be the brand's first models for India Notify me Vietnamese carmaker VinFast announced its foray into the Indian market a while back and even showcased its entire range at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January. The automaker has now confirmed its launch plans for India, which will kick off later this year with the launch of its maiden offerings, the VF7 and VF6. Both electric SUVs have been designed and developed in Vietnam, but will be adapted for Indian conditions. The automaker has also confirmed that bookings for both offerings will begin in June this year. VinFast is all set to set up shop in India and is already in the process of finalising its plant in Tamil Nadu. The plant will be operational in the next few weeks and will have an initial capacity of 50,000 units per annum. The facility will locally assemble the VinFast VF7 and VF6, the brand's maiden models for India. The VinFast VF7 will be the brand's maiden product and will be positioned in the premium midsize electric SUV segment VinFast VF7: What To Expect? The VF7 is a premium SUV that will compete in the midsize electric SUV segment and is larger and more premium, too. The design language is in line with other VinFast models with the V-themed LED DRLs, split LED headlamps, and larger air intakes with silver garnish on the bumper. The model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, while measuring a rather long 4.5 metres in length. The VF7 gets a receding roofline intended to give it a coupe feel. Powering the VF7 will be two motor options. The VF7 Plus with the single motor will produce about 201 bhp and 310 Nm, while the VF7 Plus AWD will get a dual motor setup with 343 bhp and 500 Nm. Both variants will be equipped with the 75.3 kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 450 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Other features include leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and more. The VinFast VF6 will be the mass-market offering from the brand taking on the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, as well as the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara VinFast VF6: What To Expect? The VinFast VF6 will be its massiest offering and positioned below the VF7. The model measures about 4.2 metres in length, which puts it in the same segment as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the like. The VF6 gets the familial VinFast styling with a more receding roofline, giving it a proper coupe-SUV stance. Powering the model will be the single motor churning out 201 bhp and 310 Nm. Globally, VinFast also retails the VF6 Eco variant with 172 bhp and 250 Nm. Both variants get a 59.6 kWh battery pack promising 399 km (Eco) and 381 km (Plus), respectively, on a single charge. Both the VF7 and VF6 get an identical interior featuring a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a homegrown UI/UX. The model also gets a minimalist interior with the majority of controls embedded in the infotainment screen, while a Head-up Display (HUD) replaces the conventional instrument console on both models. VinFast India: The Way Forward Both the VF7 and VF6 are scheduled to arrive later this year. The company is in the process of establishing its dealer network, which will be active in the coming months. VinFast is also working on bringing the models right in time for the festive season, so expect the VF7 to arrive first around July/August, with the VF6 to follow soon by September this year. VinFast has invested about $2 billion in India to establish in manufacturing facility, as well as a dealer network. Check Offers Tata Motors on Sunday reported that it registered a double-digit slump in the domestic passenger vehicle sales in May 2025. The homegrown auto giant that sells popular models such as Punch, Nexon, Safari, Harrier, and Curvv SUVs in the Indian passenger vehicle market, has registered 41,557 units last month, as compared to 46,697 units sold in the same month a year ago. This marked an 11 per cent year-on-year growth for the automaker in May this year. Besides the abovementioned SUVs, Tata Motors also sells Tiago, Tigor and Altroz in the Indian market. The sales slump comes despite the automaker having a strong share in the Indian SUV market and the SUVs seeing strong demand from car buyers. The abovementioned number includes both internal combustion engine-powered and electric vehicles. However, the brand has registered a surge in export numbers as Tata Motors shipped 483 units of passenger vehicles to overseas markets, up from 378 units recorded in the same month a year ago. This marked a 28 per cent year-on-year export growth for the homegrown auto company. In the electric vehicle segment, where Tata Motors holds the lion's share with models such as Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV, the OEM has registered a marginal uptick in sales. The automaker claims to have recorded two per cent growth. The car manufacturer claims to have sold 5,685 units of electric cars in May this year, slightly up from 5,558 units sold in the segment in May 2024. Tata Motors recently launched the updated iteration of the Altroz premium hatchback, while now, it is gearing up to launch its next big model, the Harrier EV. The Tata Harrier EV is slated to launch on June 3, which is expected to further strengthen the brand's grip in the Indian electric passenger vehicle market. Also, the OEM will launch the Sierra EV later this year.
