I woke up to find hundreds of midges in my living room

And yet as I'm writing this, Coinneach is standing over the windowsill in our front room, hoover nozzle in hand, scooping up the hundreds of midges that have managed to breach our window nets overnight and have made our living room their final resting place.
Friday nights at the village square have been cut short a fair few times, when the midges decide they too want to join in the fun. The hardy locals who have experienced the clouds of bugs before simply light some incense sticks and have another glass of something to cope with the swarm. But for us city folk, I reckon it'll take a little while longer to build up a tolerance.

They came early this year, deciding to emerge in April and demonstrate their full potential in the last week or so. It has made us wish for breezy afternoons - even at the expense of the ferries, which have seen their first cancellations this week since the summer timetable began.
But with the midges comes the arrival of some much cuter and far less annoying animals to Rum's landscape.
Last week, I spoke of the Manx Sheerwater and their burrows on the slopes of Hallival - I heard their cries for the first time on Wednesday when I found myself awake at 1am. Gutteral, croaking, terrifying. No wonder the vikings believed they were hearing trolls.
And while they protect their young on the mountains, the animals that remain closer to ground level have begun welcoming their babies, too.
In Kilmory to the north of the island, famed for its sandy beaches and incredible views over to the Black Cuillins on the Isle of Skye, researchers have settled in for a summer of studying the newborn red deer.
They come out with wobbly legs and Bambi-esque coats, and within the first few days of their lives, researchers will capture and tag them, take a few measurements and release them to the wild. They'll spend the next few months in close tandem to their mothers, making their first journeys around Rum's incredible nature reserve.
So far, the team has seen 30 calves, and managed to catch and tag 29 of them - one of them is Ekari25. Around one thousand red deer live on the island, and I'm beginning to understand their namesake. While in the winter their coats are a soft brown, they are now turning a vibrant maroon.

It's the world's longest running research study of a deer population, and even they, too, are plagued by Rum's infamous midges. The calm nights of the last week have made for a haven for the tiny pests, and Kilmory seems to bear the brunt of them. And selfishly, I don't mind too much if they want to settle far from the village.
Perhaps that's why we decided to seek shelter on the other side of the island for a rare day off together. On the ragged cliffs of Harris, there is what can only be described as a squad of goats meandering near to where Coinneach and I had set up a windy picnic of fruit and sandwiches. It's the first time I've ever seen a goat on Rum, and while some have impressive beards, there are two teeny kids in the mix, playfully jumping from rock to rock and running around the legs of their group.
Harris seemed to be putting on a show for us. There were the baby goats and their families, the Rum ponies were galloping towards where we were sitting near to the mausoleum, and the highland cows were sitting proudly, sensing the rain before it began to fall. On our way there, we saw a golden eagle being chased by what looked like two hooded crows - its mate soon joined the fight, and we lost them to the low hanging cloud. And yet at Harris, it's a raven who is the befallen, being dived upon by two noisy oystercatchers protecting their nearby nest.
Sitting here on the reserve, it's a wonder just how many new families are welcoming their young onto the island. The eagles on Barkeval, the goats at Harris, the deer at Kilmory. Even the ducks that plague my workplace have some fluffy chicks chirping by their feet. A beautiful ecosystem exists here, and the newborns are now a part of a truly magical part of the world.
But the midges? I'm not seeing the beauty in them just yet.

Stacey Solomon and Molly-Mae Hague strike up sweet new friendship after meeting at lavish holiday resort

Molly-Mae Hague and Stacey Solomon were staying at the same five star hotel in Turkey with their partners and kids when they bumped into one another and "fell in love". Molly Mae Hague and Stacey Solomon have struck up a new friendship after bumping into one another at the same holiday resort in Turkey. The 26-year-old influencer took a luxurious trip to Antalya in Turkey with Tommy Fury, also 26, and their daughter Bambi when they crossed paths with Stacey and her husband Joe Swash who were enjoying a family holiday with five of their kids. ‌ Both families had been staying at the gorgeous Regnum Carya resort in Antalya, which Stacey revealed was their third trip to the five-star hotel, where rooms start at £1,000 a night. On Sunday evening, Stacey revealed this time around had been extra special as they had bumped into Molly and Tommy with Bambi whilst out for dinner as she exclaimed she 'fell in love' with them. ‌ Stacey excitedly took to her Instagram Stories to share a snap of her and Molly beaming together as they posed for a photograph. Explaining how they met, she wrote: "Got to spend the first part of our holiday with @mollymae @tommyfury and Bambi. ‌ "Bumped into them at dinner one night and fell in love." Dressed in a pair of denim shorts and a red swimsuit, Stacey could not be more full of praise for the trio as she gushed: "Genuinely the most down to earth family. "And Bambi omg I can't. Just the most kind hearted little one. Rose was gutted when she left!" Stacey has even extended an invite to Molly, Tommy and Bambi to visit their lavish mansion in Essex as she added: "Can't wait for them to come to pickle cottage." ‌ Molly, who was dressed in a matching grey t-shirt and joggers set, reshared the post to her own Instagram Stories with a bunch of crying face emojis and white hearts. Stacey also shared another snap of her son Leighton and a pal posing for a picture with boxer Tommy as she shared that they were "buzzing" to meet him. Molly and Tommy have been on a number of luxurious getaways this year with little Bambi since they reconciled after their shock split last year. ‌ Bambi's new found friendship in little Rose comes as Molly took to Youtube in her most recent vlog to admit that her daughter has been biting other children at nursery. Distressed about the situation, Molly explained the situation to fans who reassured her that a biting phase is 'completely normal' and that she is doing a great job as a mother. ‌ Molly has been very open in the past about her difficulties with parenthood and often shares very candid moments on her vlogs about when she's struggling with the two-year-old. She has often been praised for being very "open" about the challenges of being a mum with many relating to her content. However, it appears they had a great time on their trip to Turkey together as Molly shared a series of sweet snaps from the holiday on Instagram, captioning it: "A summer story."

Smiling Molly-Mae Hague cuddles up to Tommy Fury while they put daughter Bambi to bed after returning from Turkey - amid criticism for saying she 'hasn't done one fun thing all summer'

Molly-Mae Hague appeared to be in excellent spirits as she shared a precious moment with her partner Tommy Fury and their daughter Bambi on Tuesday night. The former Love Island star, 26, has just returned home from a lavish family holiday in Turkey and seemed be enjoying the time back at her £4million Cheshire home. Molly took to her Instagram Stories to share an adorable photograph of herself and her boxer boyfriend, 26, putting their daughter Bambi, two, down to bed. In the sweet snap, Molly flashed a huge smile while Tommy wrapped her arm around her as they stood by Bambi's cot. Tommy was every inch the doting father as he leaned down towards Bambi, who sweetly smiled up at them both. Molly and Tommy appeared as close as ever after they rekindled their romance earlier this year, after they split in August of last year amid Tommy's struggles with alcohol. 'Family pic for the moment,' Molly gushed in an accompanying caption. In another post, Molly revealed they had marked quite the milestone for Bambi as they had got rid of her sleeping bag as they look towards moving her to a 'big girl bed'. 'We decided to say goodbye to the sleeping bag tonight... it felt weirdly emotional and a big moment?! The sleeping bag made her feel like a baby still,' she explained. 'Next step is big girl bed... but we aren't in any rush for that because she's so happy in her cot.' The family have recently returned from a luxurious £2K-per-night hotel in Turkey, which Molly described as her 'favourite week ever'. She shared a slew of photographs from the sun-soaked holiday to her Instagram as she and Tommy stayed with Bambi at the luxury five-star Regnum The Crown hotel. Shortly before her seventh trip of the year, fans blasted Molly after she claimed she 'hasn't done one fun thing' all summer despite enjoying first class trips to Dubai, Paris and Saint Tropez. But on her latest trip, influencer looked happy as she wrote: 'One of the my favourite weeks ever', as she played with Bambi in the sunshine. In another picture, Molly and Tommy coordinated in all white outfits as they posed with Bambi on an outdoor swinging chair. She admitted 'we don't want to leave' after enjoying their week at the celebrity hotspot hotel as she shared a snap of Tommy and Bambi. Sharing a number of photos to his own social media pages, Tommy gushed that he has also had 'one of the best trips ever'. Molly ruffled feathers last month across social media by claiming her summer has, thus far, been boring. 'I haven't socialised once,' she told her older sister Zoe in a recent YouTube vlog. 'I haven't done one social, fun thing... I haven't a life.' The globe-trotting influencer added: 'I haven't a life. I haven't a life. It's not good. 'It's all kids related, if it's not work and kids I am not doing anything. It's not good. People going for a drink with their friends or to a beer garden. 'Oh my gosh, I don't remember the last time I did my hair and makeup and put an outfit on for something that wasn't work related. 'I don't do anything. Lets normalise it. For the girls that are going to get to the end of summer and not done one fun thing.' However, Molly-Mae did accept that her recent trip to Wimbledon, during which she did indeed wear make-up and a £3,000 Dior dress, was a 'fun' occasion. She said: 'No that's a lie because people are going to say "You went to London in your last vlog and had a ball," and I did.' Unsurprisingly, Molly-Mae's latest comments didn't go down well with her two million-plus YouTube subscribers, with many claiming she was 'out of touch', 'tone-deaf' and 'always moaning'. The influencer started strong this summer by signing a seven-figure deal with consumer goods firm Unilever and starring in a new campaign for its detergent brand, Persil and Comfort, in May. She fronted a new 'delicate' fragrance range with her toddler Bambi, who made her campaign debut in a fluffy pink jumper and ballerina tutu. Putting her name behind their 'Heaven Scent' non-bio capsules, fabric conditioner and a scent booster elixir, Molly-Mae said: 'I can be really protective of what I use at home, especially since having Bambi. 'My skin's always been sensitive, so I need products I know are kind to my skin but still leave everything smelling amazing and this range honestly does both.' But it wasn't all work though as Molly-Mae jetted off on her sixth holiday of the year – once again to Dubai. She and Tommy travelled business class to one of the most luxurious hotels in the UAE, the five-star Jumeirah Al Naseem, where rooms cost a whopping £13,897 per night. The hotel has its own private 2km beach, a turtle rehabilitation sanctuary and an infinity pool – which the couple were pictured canoodling in. If that wasn't enough time away from home, that month Molly-Mae also visited private members' club Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds. She's not the first celebrity to be drawn to the £500-a-night retreat, with the Beckhams, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Taylor Swift also fans. Molly-Mae treated herself to a couple of nights in one of the cabins, where members can enjoy spa facilities, country bike rides and tennis. For her next trip in May, she flew on a private jet to Disneyland Paris to celebrate her 26th birthday alongside Tommy, their daughter and some of her best friends. Come June, Molly-Mae told her YouTube followers she was jetting off yet again. First to Germany for two nights for a 'secret project' and then on to the South of France to shoot the summer campaign for her clothing brand Maebe. Basking in the sunshine at a luxury villa in St Tropez, the influencer shared various snaps of herself lounging on sunbeds and dining at luxury restaurants. Later that month, Molly-Mae was whisked back to the Cotswolds for a 'surprise staycation'. This time, she and Tommy stayed at the lavish £700-a-night hotel Estelle Manor which has a swimming pool, four restaurants, spa and farm on site. She then gave a tearful defence of her comments in a separate video. She told followers: 'I don't care who tells me I am out of touch with reality or all this stuff that's going on on TikTok at the minute... I don't care. I'm not going to not talk about it.'

Molly-Mae Hague sparks outrage among fans after jetting off on tenth holiday this year

Former Love Island star and influencer Molly-Mae Hague enjoyed a luxury holiday in Turkey with Tommy Fury and daughter Bambi but fans have been left unimpressed Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury have just returned back to the UK after soaking up the sun in Turkey on their latest family holiday. ‌ The former Love Island stars have both shared wholesome snaps of their getaway with baby Bambi. However, some of Molly-Mae's followers have been left baffled by her recent confession that she's had a 'boring' summer and rushed to remind her of her confession in the comment section. ‌ Fresh from spending some time in St. Tropez, Molly-Mae, 26, enjoyed the delights of the Turkish resort city of Antalya with her beau and the couples two-year-old daughter after admitting that she had never been to Turkey before. ‌ The mum-of-one and her partner Tommy, 26, stayed at a £2,000 a night hotel, which "has been carefully curated to deliver a true family holiday without compromise" and boasts 553 spacious suites and private villas. Regnum Aquatlantis is a favourite with many celebrities as Stacey Solomon calls it her "second home". Meanwhile, the likes of Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Jason Derulo and Sir Tom Jones have also checked into the hotel group's other sites across the world. ‌ The vacation is a welcome break for Molly-Mae, who recently bemoaned her lack of a social life. "I will get to the end of summer without having done one fun thing," the reality TV star moaned while talking to her sister Zoe in July. "Zoe, I haven't socialised once. I am going to get to the end of this summer, I haven't done one social fun thing. I haven't a life. I haven't a life. It's not good. "It's all kids-related, if it's not work and kids I am not doing anything. It's not good. People going for a drink with their friends or to a beer garden." ‌ She added: "Oh my gosh, I don't remember the last time I did my hair and makeup and put an outfit on for something that wasn't work related. I don't do anything. Lets normalise it. For the girls that are going to get to the end of summer and not done one fun thing." After sharing a number of wholesome family photos with Tommy and Bambi, several of Molly-Mae's followers flocked to the comment section to remind her of her 'tone deaf' complaint. ‌ They hit out at the influencer given that she has already been on over ten big holidays this year as well as a couple of luxury getaways in the UK. Underneath her latest Instagram offering, one user wrote: "Molly doing not one fun thing …again." Another added: "Still don't think you've done anything fun yet Molly?" "She's been on holiday 3 or 4 times in like two months and said she has done nothing fun all summer. Make it make sense," someone else complained. ‌ "Oh is this the boring summer where you've done nothing?? lol," another follower commented under the post. Another unimpressed Instagram user echoed: "God she's so out of touch. Flying off to Turkey on a whim and then says she's done nothing all summer." ‌ The criticism from fans came because Molly-Mae had been updating her followers on her busy summer where she attended Wimbledon, went on a family motorhome holiday in the Isle of Man. The former Love Island star has been on at least ten holidays this year already after two trips to Dubai, Budapest, Paris, St. Moritz, and Disneyland Paris, as well as her most recent trip to Turkey. Molly-Mae also took a very luxurious trip to Saint Tropez last month.
