Jaguars DE Josh Hines-Allen says his 7-year-old son Wesley is recovering from leukemia

Yahoo25-07-2025
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen announced Friday that his 7-year-old son, Wesley, is recovering from cancer.
Hines-Allen and his wife, Kaitlyn, provided the news in a three-minute video released on social media. They said the diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia came after Wesley spiked a fever and started bleeding from a tooth days before last year's season finale, which Hines-Allen missed for personal reasons.
'It just kind of like hit me, and then nothing else mattered after that,' Hines-Allen said in the video.
Wesley underwent chemotherapy for six months. He has a few treatments remaining before he gets to ring the bell next month at Nemours Children's Health in Jacksonville.
'Wesley is doing great," Kaitlyn said in the video. "He's swimming every day. He's running around. He's playing sports.'
Added Hines-Allen: 'He's got back to being the big brother that he is.'
Hines-Allen and his wife also announced Friday that their nonprofit foundation, Four One For All, will launch a season-long campaign called "Four One For Hope" to give back to four cancer-focused non-profits each month of the NFL regular season.
Money raised will go to Nemours Children's Hospital in September, the American Cancer Society in October, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville in October and the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation in December.
'Our goal is to ensure that families going through something similar feel the same level of love and support as we did,' Hines-Allen said in a statement.
Hines-Allen is a two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher who has 53 career sacks in six seasons in Jacksonville, two shy of the franchise record held by Tony Brackens. He signed a five-year, $141.25 million contract that included $76.5 million fully guaranteed before the 2024 season.

Can the Warriors add Giannis and still keep Kuminga?

Yahoo Sports senior NBA analyst Kevin O'Connor and NBC Sports NBA Insider Grant Liffmann discuss whether or not the Golden State Warriors will add Giannis Antetokounmpo to the roster and question Jonathan Kuminga's future with the team. Hear the full conversation on 'The Kevin O'Connor Show' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Warriors haven't made a move yet. They're just waiting. Are they one of the teams waiting for Giannis? As Shams kind of alluded to over at ESPN. What's the deal with Golden State right now? Grant? The Warriors will always be big fish hunting. As long as they have Steph Curry, they're gonna big fish hunt. If when Steph Curry is gone, they're gonna big fish hunt because they need to replace Steph Curry, which is impossible because Steph Curry is a unicorn. But like, the point is, if Giannis, sure, it would be crazy if they weren't trying for him, right? Can you imagine putting Giannis with Steph? And so going for big fish, 100%. So, I would just say that like for them with the Kaminga situation and everything, while Steph Curry is, I mean, just an absolute legend, one of the greatest players of all time, it is difficult to play with him sometimes, not because he's difficult. But his movement is so unique out there. So with Jonathan Kaminga in these situations, it should, it can be difficult to adapt to a Steph Curry. If you don't adapt on the fly, and for these young players, that's why you see so many maybe not necessarily work out with the Warriors sometimes and they have to go for veterans because they understand the game has already slowed down, they have to understand that movement a little bit more, but again, playing with Steph Curry is such a unique experience for these players, you need the right fits for that. It's clear to me that if the Warriors do indeed keep Jonathan Kaminga, they want to be able to trade Jonathan Kaminga. It's one of those random situations where leverage is left to all sides, because in one world, you'd assume a Jonathan Kaminga a couple of years ago would have gone a huge contract this year from a team, but no team has cap space. Only one team had cap space enough to give him the money he wanted, right? So now you're talking sign and trades, and sign and trades are not the same anymore because now most teams are limited in what you can do with a sign and trade. Kaminga could try to delay a year and get the qualifying offer because there's going to be much more cap space the following year. But I'm sure in his mind it's like, well, what if I don't play well or don't mesh well again or something happens? And so, and the Warriors meantime are trying to win, and they're like, hey, we, if you are all in. We can try to win with you for now, but we do recognize that this is not the perfect fit. It's just like a whole interesting situation where just no one has leverage. Close

Jared Verse exits practice early after bumping knees

The Rams have an injury concern with one of their best defensive players. Via multiple reporters, head coach Sean McVay said in his press conference that edge rusher Jared Verse departed Thursday's practice early after bumping knees with teammate Braden Fiske. McVay added that he wasn't sure of the severity of Verse's injury. But Verse was down for a bit before he was helped off the field and did not return. The No. 19 overall pick of last year's draft, Verse was named the AP defensive rookie of the year after registering 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and 18 quarterback hits in his first season with the Rams. He then recorded 2.0 sacks, three tackles for loss, and a fumble returned for a touchdown in a pair of postseason games. Verse earned his first Pro Bowl berth as a rookie as well. Additionally, McVay noted guard Kevin Dotson suffered a chest contusion in Tuesday's joint practice, but should be able to return to practice soon.

Intriguing rookie RB makes one-handed catch, shows off nasty juke at Chiefs training camp

The Kansas City Chiefs have an impressive stable of capable running backs to lead their ground game in 2025, but the most intriguing of the bunch may be rookie rusher Brashard Smith. A former wide receiver-running back hybrid as a collegian, Smith was selected by the Chiefs with the No. 228 pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft after an outstanding career with the Miami Hurricanes and Southern Methodist University Mustangs. During Kansas City's latest practice session at training camp, Smith made a one-handed catch and showed off a nasty juke move that turned the heads of fans in attendance for the Chiefs' workouts. Take a look at Smith's outstanding effort in this video, which was posted to Twitter by Arrowhead Addict contributor Christian Ainsworth: While Smith isn't expected to compete with Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt for the No. 1 spot at the running back position on Kansas City's depth chart, the exciting rookie could earn a role as a rotational or situational pass-catcher out of the backfield if he demonstrates this same kind of explosiveness when the Chiefs face off against the Arizona Cardinals on August 9.
