PTI slams Punjab's allocation of Rs30bn for Speaker's constituency
According to the PTI Punjab, recently, the salaries of the National Assembly Speaker and other parliamentarians were increased significantly; while the country's economy is on the verge of collapse and the people are suffering from poverty, inflation, and unemployment, the extravagance of the elite feels like rubbing salt in the wounds of the nation.
Punjab is facing serious issues, including a poor drainage system, a lack of basic healthcare facilities in government hospitals, and over 10 million children being out of school.
'In such circumstances, spending public tax money on the government's courtiers is seen as barbaric,' it added.
The party also castigated the Punjab government for establishing the Anti-Riot Force and appointing 5,000 personnel for the new force, saying it serves as a clear indication of Maryam Nawaz's authoritarian governance style. 'The brutality displayed by the Punjab Police over the past three years, aimed at carrying out political vendettas and suppressing the PTI, is unprecedented. The creation of the Anti-Riot Force is designed to further oppress the general public, particularly targeting the PTI and enforcing Maryam Nawaz's authoritarian policies in Punjab,' it added.
It pointed out that rather than improving institutional performance and prioritising the welfare of the people, public resources are being misused to extend their illegitimate rule and safeguard personal interests, adding that this behaviour is both condemnable and detrimental to national interests.

Punjab speaker agrees to dismiss references against suspended PTI MPAs

According to Express News, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has decided to drop the references submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the 26 suspended MPAs. On the speaker's instructions, assembly officials have prepared a draft order suspending the government's applications, which will be formally issued upon the speaker's return from abroad. The references were originally filed by treasury lawmakers, including Ahmad Iqbal, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, and Iftikhar Ahmed Chhachhar, accusing the opposition members of misconduct during a recent assembly session. The action was taken under Rule 210(3) of the Rules of Procedure of the Punjab Assembly, 1997. Despite receiving disqualification requests from the treasury benches, Speaker Khan granted the suspended MPAs an opportunity to present their case under Article 10-A of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to a fair hearing. The hearing took place in the speaker's chamber at the Punjab Assembly. Subsequently, a negotiation committee comprising members of the PML-N, its allied parties, and PTI was formed to resolve the impasse. While no formal announcement was made after earlier rounds, both sides described the talks as productive. Sources indicated that the speaker's final ruling would determine the timing of the MPAs' restoration. The opposition, however, has maintained that it will boycott all assembly proceedings until the suspended lawmakers are officially reinstated. Speaking to reporters, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman confirmed that progress had been made, saying both government and opposition had agreed on a set of conditions.

FO reaffirms zero-tolerance stance on terrorism
Pakistan has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and emphasised its pivotal role in global counter-terrorism efforts. Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to international cooperation and has played a crucial role in the fight against terrorism, as evidenced by the apprehension of Sharifullah, the mastermind behind the Abbey Gate bombing, the Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement issued on Friday. The statement also addressed the ongoing investigations into the Pahalgam incident, which occurred in the disputed region of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The FO rejected any claims linking the incident to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a defunct organisation that was banned in Pakistan years ago. The FO stressed that Pakistan has successfully dismantled such outfits, arrested and prosecuted their leadership, and effectively deradicalised their cadres. The statement further highlighted India's tendency to exploit designations of terrorist groups to promote anti-Pakistan narratives. It noted that this tactic often serves to divert international attention from India's ongoing human rights abuses, particularly in IIOJK. "While the issue under consideration pertains to US domestic laws, India has a track record of exploiting such designations to push anti-Pakistan propaganda with a view to divert international attention from its irresponsible and rogue behavior," the statement read. It added that Pakistan remains a counter-terrorism bulwark, having made unparalleled sacrifices in the global fight against extremism. The FO called on the international community to adopt objective, non-discriminatory policies in addressing terrorism, stressing the need for collective global action against all terrorist organizations. In this regard, Pakistan urged the inclusion of the Majeed Brigade as an alias of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in the list of designated terrorist organisations, the statement concluded.

IESCO reports significant improvements in performance
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has reported significant improvements in its performance regarding revenue recovery and reduction in transmission and distribution losses during the financial year 2024–25. According to official figures, the IESCO successfully reduced its transmission and distribution losses from 8.75 percent at the end of FY 2023–24 to 8.39 percent by the end of FY 2024–25. In addition, the company achieved 100 percent electricity bill collection during FY 2024–25, up from 98.2 percent the previous year. As a result of improved revenue recovery and reduced line losses, IESCO managed to save a substantial amount of Rs 14.7 billion — a remarkable achievement attributed to the concerted efforts of all departments. During this period, IESCO teams also ensured the timely installation and billing of 200,000 new electricity connections across various consumer categories. IESCO Chairman Dr Tahir Masood, along with the Board of Directors, commended Chief Executive Muhammad Naeem Jan and the entire IESCO staff — especially the field teams — for their outstanding performance. He credited the achievement to effective teamwork, strategic planning, and the dedication of all IESCO formations. Dr Masood also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Laghari, and their team for their leadership, guidance, and unwavering support, which he said played a crucial role in the company's success. He highlighted that the ongoing crackdown on electricity theft and defaulters, timely maintenance of the power distribution system, accurate meter readings, and the efficient use of advanced technology have all contributed to IESCO's current strong performance. Dr Masood reaffirmed IESCO's commitment to further improving services and setting a performance benchmark for other power distribution companies across Pakistan. Meanwhile, IESCO has reported significant damage to its power distribution system across the region following recent heavy rainfall and flash floods, particularly affecting Rawalpindi City Circle, Chakwal Circle, Jhelum Circle, and surrounding areas. The severe weather conditions resulted in the collapse of several HT (High Tension) and LT (Low Tension) poles, leading to broken power lines and transformer failures in multiple locations. In some areas, floodwaters even entered residential homes, prompting IESCO to temporarily suspend electricity supply in accordance with safety codes to prevent any risk to life and infrastructure. According to detailed reports, 43 HT poles and 7 LT poles fell due to flooding and overflowing storm drains. This caused complete power outages on various feeders, including Shahpur Syedan, Basharat, Tharpal, Jhand Khan, Mort Hassnot, New Sanguai, I-14/3, Officer Colony, and Ameer Hamza Colony feeders. Additional faults on feeders, transformers, and individual consumer complaints have also been reported in various localities. IESCO Chief Executive Muhammad Naeem Jan has placed the Operations, Construction, GSO, and GSE formations on high alert and directed all officers to remain in the field with their teams to manage restoration efforts. The central control room in Islamabad is monitoring the power restoration efforts 24/7. He also requested valuable customers to cooperate with IESCO field formations.
