Bhutan delegation meets Assam CM Sarma, seeks synergy on Gelephu Mindfulness City Project

Guwahati: An eleven-member delegation from Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Project that is on a visit to Assam and Meghalaya met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the latter's office in Guwahati.The delegation included members of the Core Working Group of the Gelephu Mindfulness City project and officials from the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General. The meeting marked a warm and cordial exchange of ideas, reaffirming the ties between Assam and the Kingdom of Bhutan.Sarma extended his heartfelt appreciation for their visit and underscored the significance of the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project in promoting regional cooperation and sustainable development . He stated that the Government of Assam, aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands committed to supporting this project. He assured the delegation of cooperation and collaboration from the state administration in working closely with both the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Core Working Group.The Chief Minister noted that the project would serve as an important platform to deepen institutional collaboration as well as people-to-people ties between Assam and Bhutan. He also highlighted the project's potential benefits for the youth of both regions through opportunities in education, skill development, entrepreneurship, cultural exchange, and more.Sarma encouraged the delegation to visit key institutions in Assam, such as institutions of higher education and medical facilities, to explore further areas of synergy and cooperation. He also invited them to make use of various state-run facilities that may serve as models or partners in developing the Gelephu Mindfulness City.Recalling King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's previous visit to Assam, the Chief Minister expressed his desire to host the entire royal family in the future. He emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and collaboration, stating that during the next visit of the Core Working Group, a broader, multi-sectoral meeting would be organized. This gathering would bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to enrich the discussions and support a holistic approach to development and partnership, he added. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation to strengthening bilateral ties for achieving shared goals.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced an innovative initiative under which, wherever he goes on tour or where he stays overnight, a cleanliness campaign will be run compulsorily adding that the drive will help in spreading the message of "social awarness" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission to every street and village in the state. Chief Minister Dhami has given strict instructions to all municipal bodies and gram panchayats, including the District Magistrates, to take this initiative in mission mode and give priority to cleanliness at the local level. He has also appealed to common citizens, youth, and voluntary organisations to participate enthusiastically in this campaign. The Chief Minister said that it is our resolve to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Mission to every village and every street. "Wherever I go or stay overnight, a pledge of cleanliness will be taken there. This is not just cleanliness, but a movement of social awareness." In addition, the Chief Minister also made it clear to the District Magistrates that he could suddenly reach any Tehsil Diwas in the state to assess the ground-level functioning of the administration and ensure a quick solution to public problems. This initiative will not only give a new direction to the cleanliness system in Uttarakhand, but it will also play an important role in making the Prime Minister's Swachhata Abhiyan a people's campaign. Meanwhile, in a cabinet meeting chaired by Pushkar Singh Dhami, many important decisions were made, including the approval of an amendment to the departmental structure of the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council, according to a press statement from the CMO on Wednesday. The Haldwani Headquarters and Dehradun Centre posts will be kept in the integrated cadre. Approval has been given for creating 18 new Geology and Mining Department posts to deal with incidents like land subsidence. It has been decided to issue the final notification of flood plain zoning on both banks of the Asan River (from Bhatta Fall to Asan Barrage) and to include some construction works in the permissible category. UIIDB has been entrusted with monetising the operation of 5 inspection buildings (Ranikhet, Uttarkashi, Duggalbitta, Harshil, and Rishikesh) of the Public Works Department in PPP mode. The formation of the Uttarakhand State Allied and Healthcare Council has been approved under the National Allied and Healthcare Professions Commission Act 2021. The cabinet has decided to operate the fund from the cess on foreign liquor/beer under the Chief Minister's Women and Child Multipurpose Assistance Fund (Corpus Fund). It will be used for assistance in schemes run for women and children, the operation of innovative schemes, and support to orphaned children, destitute people, and old women in disaster.

Japan says Chinese jets made dangerously close approach

ILO ranks India 2nd in social security for poor
Geneva: India has achieved a historic milestone in recording a 45 percentage point jump in the social security coverage of its population over the last decade to cover 94 crore people and is now being ranked second in the world on the dashboard of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). According to the latest ILO data, India's social security coverage has increased from 19 per cent in 2015 to 64.3 per cent in 2025, an unprecedented 45 percentage point surge over the past decade. ILO has acknowledged India's achievement and officially published on its dashboard that 64.3 per cent of India's population, i.e. over 94 crore people, are now covered under at least one social protection benefit. Director General ILO praised India's focussed welfare policies for the poor and labour class under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. ILO's Criteria for Scheme Consideration for each country include that the scheme should be legislatively backed, in cash and be active, and verified time series data of last three years has to be provided. While holding a bilateral discussion with the Director General, ILO, Gilbert F Houngbo on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference (ILC), India's Minister of Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the pro-poor and labour welfare schemes undertaken by the Modi government over the past 11 years. The Minister also apprised DG ILO about the national-level Social Protection Data Pooling Exercise that has been carried out by the Government in collaboration with the ILO. Mandaviya said, 'This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relentless efforts of the Government in building an inclusive and rights-based social protection ecosystem. The increase marks the fastest expansion in social protection coverage worldwide, reflecting the Government's unwavering commitment to 'Antyodaya' i.e., empowering the last mile and fulfilling the promise of leaving no one behind.' The present figure reflects only Phase I of the data pooling exercise. This phase focussed on beneficiary data of Central sector schemes and women-centric schemes in selected 8 States.
