WTC Points Table 2025-27: India jump to third after historic Oval Test win; England slip to fourth; Australia on top

ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 Standings: A spirited effort by pacer Mohammed Siraj led India to a historic six-run win over England in the fifth and the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at the Oval in London on Monday as India levelled the series 2-2. The win also gave Shubman Gill-led India 12 crucial points as they moved to third place in the World Test Championship (2025-27 cycle) points table after the end of the series.
India, who were fourth ahead of the Oval Test, exchanged places with England, who have dropped to fourth after being condemned to their second loss in this cycle. Both India and England have won two matches, lost one and drawn one to gain equal points, but the ICC had docked two points from England due to their slow over rate at the Lord's Test.
India have 28 points from five Tests and a PCT of 46.67, while England are left with 26 points and a 43.33 PCT. Australia continue to lead the standings after a dominant show during their recent tour to the Caribbean Islands, where they whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in the three-match Test series to have an unblemished record in this cycle.
Sri Lanka are third with 66.67 PCT and Bangladesh are fifth, while the West Indies find themselves in sixth place with 0 points from three Tests.
New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are yet to play any matches in this WTC cycle. Defending World Test Champion South Africa beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in the recently concluded Test match series, but since Zimbabwe is not part of the current WTC cycle, the series was not counted in for the standings.

Blame Game In England Camp After Oval Defeat: Ben Stokes Reacts To Missing Final Test As India Level Series 2-2

In a contest that epitomised the thrill of Test cricket, India edged out England by just 6 runs in the final Test at The Oval, squaring the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. Despite holding the edge at the start of Day 5, needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand, England fell agonisingly short—thanks to a fiery burst from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, who combined to take the last four wickets in dramatic fashion. This nail-biting result capped off a fiercely fought five-match series that saw both teams trade blows across different venues. But it was India's spirited comeback in the final hour that stole the headlines—and left England skipper Ben Stokes with mixed emotions. Stokes, ruled out of the final Test due to a shoulder injury, made his presence felt in the post-match presentation with a heartfelt reflection. "It's always difficult when you can't participate in a game like this. Another hard-fought game, right down to the wire, and both teams gave it absolutely everything,' said the England all-rounder. The absence of their talismanic captain was keenly felt, especially as England's tail was exposed to India's pace battery under immense pressure. While Ollie Pope led in his absence, the emotional void was undeniable. 'I'm bitterly disappointed we couldn't get over the line. But I'm incredibly proud of the heart, energy, and resilience this team showed,' added Stokes. Chris Woakes' Bravery Epitomizes England's Spirit One of the most stirring moments of Day 5 came when Chris Woakes, nursing a shoulder injury, walked out to bat with his left arm in a sling—determined to fight until the end. Stokes didn't hold back his admiration for the courage displayed. 'He spent yesterday thinking about which way around he was going to bat,' said Stokes. 'We've got guys who've gone out there and played with broken fingers and broken feet. It shows how much playing for England means to these players.' Woakes' gesture resonated with fans worldwide, symbolising the grit and passion that defined this Test series. Siraj's Five-Fer Seals the Deal for India While England's fightback was valiant, it was Mohammed Siraj who turned the game on its head. His relentless aggression with the second new ball rattled the hosts, finishing with a match-winning five-wicket haul. Prasidh Krishna's timely strikes from the other end ensured England never quite recovered from the early blows. Siraj's performance, particularly on a final-day pitch offering little help, drew comparisons to some of India's finest overseas fast-bowling efforts in recent years. His consistency under pressure added a heroic layer to India's dramatic win. Stokes on India-England Rivalry: 'Emotions Are a Part of It' Addressing the heated moments between players during the series, Stokes was candid but composed. 'India vs England is always emotional. We won't go to bed crying about what was said on the field, and neither would the Indians. That's just part of the passion.' This mature take on sledging and on-field banter adds depth to the modern-day India-England rivalry, now among the most fiercely contested matchups in international cricket.

Stuart Broad Mocks Washington Sundar's Prediction After India's Defeat In 3rd Test vs England

In a series filled with fierce competition, riveting comebacks, and high-stakes drama, the India vs England 2025 Test series has lived up to the billing — and then some. But amid the intense cricketing action, it was a tongue-in-cheek remark from England's veteran pacer Stuart Broad that stole headlines ahead of the decisive final day at The Oval. Speaking to Sky Sports, Broad cheekily named his "favourite moment" from the series — and it had less to do with wickets or runs and more to do with confidence gone awry. 'Washington Sundar said after Day 4 at Lord's that 'India would definitely win this Test'. Then he chipped one back to Jofra Archer and went back for a duck. It did make me smile,' Broad said with a grin. His comment was aimed at Washington Sundar's bold assertion before India's fourth innings collapse in the third Test. With India needing just 193 to win and four wickets down by stumps on Day 4, Sundar's confidence seemed justified. But cricket has its own script. India's Painful Collapse at Lord's: The Turning Point? The Lord's Test, now etched in memory for both fans and players, was perhaps the most pivotal game of the series. India, needing a modest total to secure a win, looked poised for a stunning chase with Ravindra Jadeja leading a gritty lower-order fightback alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. But England's disciplined attack held their nerve. India eventually fell short by 22 runs — a narrow defeat that could haunt them if England complete the 3-1 series win on Day 5 of the ongoing fifth Test. Series Decider at The Oval: England on the Brink, India Clinging On Heading into the final day at The Oval, England need just 35 runs to win the match and the series. Joe Root (105) and Harry Brook (111) delivered masterclasses in pressure batting, stitching together a 195-run stand that swung momentum heavily in England's favour. Despite rain and bad light delaying the inevitable, the equation is simple: England are favourites, but India — needing four wickets — will throw everything at the hosts in a bid to square the series 2-2. Currently, Jamie Smith (2*) and Jamie Overton (0*) are at the crease with England on 339/6 chasing 374. What Washington Sundar's Moment Teaches Us While Stuart Broad's remark may come off as playful banter, it highlights the psychological battles within Test cricket. Confidence can galvanize a team — or backfire spectacularly. Sundar, known for his composure under pressure, made a brave call. But as Broad's quip underlines, in cricket, results speak louder than words. Still, the 2025 series has been a revelation for young Indian talents. Shubman Gill's maturity, Ravindra Jadeja's resilience, and Jasprit Bumrah's aggressive spells have all provided bright spots — even as England's tactical superiority and batting depth have often tilted the balance. Day 5: One Hour to Decide a Series As fans gear up for a nerve-wracking final day, the spotlight will be on how India's bowlers approach the task. Can Bumrah produce magic with the second new ball? Will Ravichandran Ashwin, whose role has been subdued this series, step up? Or will England's batters calmly finish the chase? Whatever happens, this IND vs ENG series — capped off by Stuart Broad's humorous jab — has reminded fans why Test cricket remains the ultimate test of skill, character, and unpredictability.
