Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Under Fire After Postgame Remark
Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Under Fire After Postgame Remark originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-3, improving their record to 39-27 and keeping them atop an extremely competitive NL West. Advertisement The biggest storyline from the game was the Cardinals using their video board to show a highlight of former first baseman Matt Adams hitting a three-run home run off Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw in the 2014 National League Division Series, which St. Louis won in four games. Despite that home run and game taking place over a decade ago, it's clear that Kershaw was not a fan of the Cardinals' actions. After the game, he made his feelings known. "I think it's a little bush league, but I don't expect anything less from these guys," Kershaw said. "So, it's no worries." However, his comment quickly caught the attention of many MLB fans, who are expressing their frustration toward the 10-time All-Star for a number of reasons. Advertisement "What a baby. Crying about something from over an decade ago," said one comment. "One of the biggest chokers the last 20 years btw crying about a video of him choking go figure," said another. "Kershaw gotta do better at eliminating the outside noise," a third added. A fourth stated, "Breaking: teams play highlights of moments in their franchise's history. You'd think the HOFer could handle that." "And it's bush league to respond in that manner.... ignore and move the (expletive) on," a fifth continued. "How about you dont give up jacks in the playoffs and teams wont troll you?" said another. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Davis-Imagn Images In the end, though, the video clearly didn't affect Kershaw too much, as he was awarded the win on Sunday for the Dodgers after tossing five innings, allowing six hits, one earned run and zero walks while recording seven strikeouts. Cardinals Can End 39-Year Drought, and You Can Help
Cardinals Can End 39-Year Drought, and You Can Help originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Fan voting for this year's MLB All-Star Game is underway. Phase 1 of voting began yesterday and will run through noon ET on Thursday, June 26. Advertisement After Ryan Helsley was the lone Cardinals' all star in 2024, this year's team has a few players with strong cases for the All-Star Game, which will take place in Atlanta on Tuesday, July 15. Among the Cardinals' possible All-Star candidates are shortstop Masyn Winn and designated hitter Iván Herrera, but it's second baseman Brendan Donovan who appears most likely to represent the team in Atlanta. Donovan is off to an incredible start in 2025, slashing .321/.384/.462 through 57 games. He leads all qualified NL primary second basemen in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging perecentage, wRC+ and WAR, among other statistics. Advertisement If selected as the NL's starting second baseman for the All-Star Game, Donovan would be the first Cardinal to do so since Tom Herr in 1985, ending a 39-year drought. Donovan finished third in rookie of the year voting in 2022 and was named a Gold Glover that same year, but is yet to play in an All-Star Game. Cardinals second baseman Brendan DonovanTim Heitman-Imagn Images In order to be named this year's starter at second base, Donovan will first need to finish inside the top two at his position in Phase 1 of fan voting. During Phase 1 of voting, fans can cast five ballots every 24 hours on the MLB website. The results of Phase 1 will be announced on Thursday, June 26. The top two vote-getters at each position (and top six outfliders) will then move on to Phase 2 of fan voting to determine who starts in the All-Star Game. Phase 2 runs from noon ET on Monday to noon ET on Wednesday, July 2, and fans are only allowed to vote once every 24 hours. Advertisement Finally, the starters at each position will be announced at 7 p.m. ET on July 2, with the pitchers and reserves being announced at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 6.
