UBS' Asian Investment Conference to feature Simone Biles, Pascal Lamy, Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova, a renowned author, psychologist and poker player, will discuss uncertainty at next week's Asian Investment Conference (AIC) in Hong Kong, a topic that is certain to be at the front of mind for attendees of the event, hosted by UBS.
She will be among the dozens of policymakers, economists, and robotics scientists to speak at the AIC, which was launched 28 years ago by Credit Suisse, now part of UBS.
Niall Macleod, the curator of the event and UBS' head of product management for the Asia-Pacific region, said the conference would open with discussions on economics, trade and political issues, before moving into strategies for managing uncertainty.
'What are the tools you can utilise to try and handle the things you can't see, the things you can't necessarily predict?' he said.
The political and economic uncertainties are far greater than normal, he said.
'It's providing a real challenge to investors', he added.

Calling the meeting an important consultation held under the guidance of the strategic consensus reached by the two heads of state on June 5, He said China's position on Sino-US economic and trade issues is clear and consistent. Noting that the essence of Sino-US economic and trade relations lies in mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, he said cooperation in the economic and trade field benefits both sides, while confrontation harms both. 'Panda fever' has translated into a significant boost in business for Hong Kong's Ocean Park, with the debut of several new bears leading to a 19 per cent surge in attendance year on year since their debut, according to the city's tourism minister. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui also said in a written reply on Wednesday to lawmakers' questions that an additional HK$121 million (US$15.4 million) had been secured from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to upgrade the pandas' enclosures. The move would help solidify Hong Kong's status as a premier panda tourism destination, she added. Hong Kong is home to six giant pandas, who comprise Ying Ying and Le Le, their twin cubs, Jia Jia and De De, and An An and Ke Ke, who were gifted to the city by Beijing to celebrate the 27th anniversary of its return to Chinese sovereignty. An An and Ke Ke made their debut in December 2024, and cubs Jia Jia and De De were unveiled to the public in February of this year. 'They have been well received by both locals and visitors, and Ocean Park's attendance has since then increased by around 19 per cent over the same period last year,' Law said.
