The resolve of the God
Krishna, as the divine emissary of the Pandavas, acted by God's predetermined plan, manifesting His sacred purpose while staying at Vidura's humble abode. Duryodhana, blinded by ego, became angry and chided Vidura, insisting that all he possessed came through his father Dhritarashtra, and questioned Vidura's grace to host Krishna, the very form of divinity representing the Pandavas. Vidura replied with devotion, stating that inviting Lord Krishna to his home was an act of reverence, considering his house was blessed and sanctified by Krishna's presence. Duryodhana, further agitated, made slanderous remarks against Vidura's mother and reminded him of his birth. Though angered, Vidura remembered the divine teachings and, out of respect for the elders and by the grace of God, exercised restraint. Smt. Vasuki Manoharan in her discourse shared that Vidura initially supported Duryodhana, despite his unrighteousness. However, when Duryodhana uttered disrespectful words about Vidura's mother, Vidura resolved not to extend further support and symbolically broke his bow and arrow, revered as possessing the sanctified powers of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. When Krishna, the Lord Himself, peacefully inquired, Vidura explained that Duryodhana lacked faith and spiritual trust in him. Vidura emphasised that one should serve only those who honour faith and righteousness, for true devotion flourishes where there is trust in the heart. Duryodhana, filled with spiritual ignorance, felt humiliated by Krishna not honouring his request to be his guest and allowed darkness to overtake his heart, devising a plot to harm the Lord. Duryodhana's brother, Vikarna, cautioned that to harm women, children, the elders, and divine messengers is the most grievous sin in the eyes of the Lord. Yet Duryodhana, shrouded in ignorance, disregarded this sacred wisdom. Nevertheless, his plot failed, for nothing and no one can overcome the omnipotent resolve of the Divine.

Growing demand for eco-friendly Ganesha idols this Vinayaka Chavithi
1 2 Vijayawada: This Vinayaka Chavithi, the competition is steep between eco-friendly clay Ganesha idols laced with Ganga mitti (holy clay from the Ganges) and the colourful plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. For the first time, clay idols are being made up to eight feet in height, attracting attention from devotees and pandal organisers alike. Vinayaka Chavithi, which is one of the most celebrated festivals across ages and social groups, traditionally features large idols. In recent years, however, the harmful impact of PoP idols on rivers and water bodies has been a growing concern. Responding to environmental campaigns, artisans have introduced larger and more durable clay idols in the market. Although clay idols are heavier, costlier, and limited in design compared to PoP idols, this year about 20 varieties of eco-friendly idols are being offered in Vijayawada. Local production has also grown. Earlier, idols were sourced from Hyderabad, but now Vijayawada artisans are moulding them locally. "Clay idols are more difficult to make than PoP idols, and though heavy, they can break easily if not handled carefully. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A super-hit in Malaysia. He added that prices have increased by nearly 15% due to higher production costs, but demand remains strong. To appeal to customers, clay idols are now painted with vegetable-based colours, making them visually striking as well as environmentally safe. "Vinayaka Chavithi is about worshipping clay idols and returning them to water, symbolizing the soil's cycle. Now that eco-friendly idols are available in large sizes, everyone should install them to protect the environment," opined K Rambabu, a Ganesh Utsav organiser. Andhra Pradesh govt is also backing the shift. Deputy CM and Panchayat Raj minister Pawan Kalyan has also directed officials to promote clay idols not only in cities but also in rural areas through large-scale awareness programs. Baby ponds across Hyderabad being revived as Ganesh Chaturthi draws close
1 2 3 Hyderabad: With Ganesh Chaturthi days away, concerns over water pollution have resurfaced as environmentalists flagged gaps in immersion arrangements across the city. Despite the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reviving 74 baby ponds across 25 lakes, environmentalists say the efforts are far from adequate to handle the sheer scale of idol immersions. Environmentalists note that most immersion ponds are too shallow and cannot accommodate the volume of idols brought in during the festival, leading to overflow into natural water bodies. While GHMC has said that awareness drives are underway and additional personnel will be deployed at immersion sites this year, activists argue that enforcement has remained weak. "Despite the ban, Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols continue to be produced, with no action against manufacturers or buyers. Orders restricting them are issued only days before the festival, by which time hundreds of idols are already made and sold," said environmentalist Kolipaka Prakash. "Paints used on these idols leach harmful levels of lead, cobalt, and zinc into the water, further depleting oxygen. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? As per the Telangana Pollution Control Board data, many lakes especially the major ones like Hussain Sagar, Durgam Cheruvu, Malkam Cheruvu have seen spiked pollution levels post immersion. Their dissolved oxygen levels (DOL) have been found as low as 1.5 mg/l against the WHO's guidelines of 10 mg/l. Similarly, the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) levels on average remained 40 mg/l against the acceptable limit of 20 mg/l. While the chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels which have been found after the immersion in the Hussain Sagar are bad as wastewater as it crossed 200 mg/l last year. The contaminated water is often used by slum dwellers living near lake stretches, putting them at risk of skin ailments, respiratory infections, and even long-term illnesses such as cancer. "In fact, many lakes that see heavy immersions like Kokapet Lake, Kotha Cheruvu, Hydernagar Cheruvu, and others do not even have baby ponds. Our volunteers engaged in routine lake-cleaning drives have even found small idols regularly dumped directly into lakes, aggravating pollution levels," said Madhulika Chaudhary. Manognya Reddy from Kapra Revival Group said alternatives are available but poorly promoted. "We encourage small, eco-friendly idols made from flour and turmeric, which can be easily immersed at home. For those unable to make their own, clay Ganeshas are a better option. These can be immersed in buckets or in small apartment settings," she added. "We ensure that idols up to 10 feet are immersed into the baby pond, with the rest going into the main lake. We are focusing on minimising water pollution in the lakes. Every year, as soon as the pond fills up, they are cleaned to make more space for other idols. We are going to station officials also at the gates to divert the idols from the lake to the ponds," said an official from the GHMC.
