Putera Adam 1st M'sian to secure podium finish in European race

KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysia's rising star in motorsport racing, Putera Adam Halim Muazzam, made history yesterday by becoming the first Malaysian driver to secure a podium finish at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe 2025 championship in Italy.
The success came after Putera Adam, 19, and his French teammate, Paul Levet, representing the VSR team, won the second race in the PRO category at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
Initially, they faced challenges with their Huracan EVO2 car in the first race, forcing them to settle for sixth place despite starting from pole position.
However, their extraordinary comeback was evident in the second race when Putera Adam, starting from eighth on the grid, successfully overtook other drivers to take third place.
VSR team's strategic driver change at the opportune moment gave them an advantage as Levet's energetic driving put the Italy-based team in the lead.
Levet overtook the then-leader, Calle Bergman of the Leipert Motorsport team, before maintaining consistent driving and finishing the race in first place with a time of 48 minutes 45.387 seconds.
'It was a very challenging week for us as we couldn't do any free practice beforehand and the car suffered an alternator failure in the first race,' said Putera Adam in a statement.
'However, Levet and I managed to overcome the previous day's disappointment to lift our first trophy in this Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe 2025 championship.'
Putera Adam and Levet are now in fifth place overall with 26 points in the championship.
They will continue their challenge in round three at the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit, Belgium, from June 26 to 28.

Anwar looks to deepen ties with new South Korean president
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Lee Jae-myung on his election as South Korea's new president, calling it a turning point for the nation. Lee was declared president earlier today after winning a snap election, taking the helm of a country deeply divided following his predecessor's failed attempt to declare martial law. In a statement, Anwar said South Korea had emerged from a period of intense political contest and scrutiny with resilience and democratic resolve. "The people have spoken for renewal: of trust, of institutions, and of national purpose," he said in a Facebook post. Anwar said he looked forward to working with President Lee to deepen ties in trade, technology, peace, security and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that Malaysia-South Korea relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024 — a milestone reflecting both countries' shared ambitions. He hopes that Asean would take on a more prominent role in Seoul's regional outlook. "As chairs of Asean and Apec respectively in 2025, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea are well placed to lead impactful regional initiatives. Fahmi, Azalina to collaborate on tightening social media regulation
KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has expressed his readiness to hold further discussions with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, to strengthen the regulation of social media platforms in Malaysia. Fahmi said the meeting is vital following Azalina's recent proposal to amend existing laws, including requiring parents and guardians to monitor their children's online behaviour and participate in digital safety awareness and education programmes. He said that these measures will take into account the experience and approaches of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Ministry of Communications in handling various issues related to digital platforms and social media in the country. 'I will be meeting Datuk Seri Azalina to explore possible ways, based on MCMC's and the Ministry's experience dealing with social media platforms, on what we can do,' Fahmi told reporters after the Hawana 2025-Bernama Strategic Partners' Appreciation Ceremony and Official Launch of Bernama Motorhome at Wisma Bernama here yesterday. Present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, as well as Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also Hawana 2025 project director.
