Four-year-old boy dies in Paya Rumput PPR fire in Melaka, family receives emergency assistance
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Shahrom Laji said the victim was found dead in one of the three rooms in the flat, located on the sixth floor of the PPR, in an incident at about 2.20 pm.
'We received a call at about 2.39 pm before 17 personnel and two fire engines from the Ayer Keroh and Cheng Fire and Rescue (BBP) stations were dispatched to the location about eight minutes later.
'As soon as the fire was brought under control, rescuers found the body of the child, who was the fourth of five siblings, in an unlocked room lying on the floor,' he said when met by reporters at the scene here today.
He said the initial investigation found that at the time of the incident, the victim's mother and siblings were in the house but managed to escape when the fire occurred.
'Thirty per cent of the flat was destroyed while the overall structure of the building is safe to inhabit,' he said, adding that the exact cause of the incident and value of the losses are still under investigation.
Meanwhile, Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management senior state executive councillor Datuk Rais Yasin, who is also the state assemblyman for Paya Rumput, said the state government is providing initial assistance through the Melaka Housing Board (LPM) by offering temporary housing to the victim's family in the affected PPR.
He also said the Paya Rumput State Assembly Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) Office will assist with the burial arrangements for the victim after the post-mortem is carried out at Melaka Hospital. — Bernama

He said the driver suffered serious injuries. Also seriously injured were the two motorcyclists and one pillion rider, and the driver whose car he crashed into on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. He said the case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving.

2 motorcyclists killed in Kota Tinggi accident
The victims, aged 18 and 19, sustained serious head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. (PDRM pic) JOHOR BAHRU : Two motorcyclists were killed in an accident involving three vehicles at Km60.5 Jalan Sungai Rengit, Kota Tinggi, early today. Kota Tinggi district police chief Yusof Othman said the two men, aged 18 and 19, sustained serious head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. He said police received information regarding the crash, which involved two motorcycles and a lorry, at 1.24am. 'The accident is believed to have occurred when both motorcycles crashed into the rear of the lorry. However, the case is still under investigation. 'The victims' bodies were taken to the Kota Tinggi Hospital, while the lorry driver has yet to be traced,' he said in a statement. Yusof appealed to witnesses to contact traffic investigation officer Fairuz Abd Malek at 012-7415886.

24 houses destroyed by fire in Tuaran
Firefighters from the Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire and rescue stations were at the scene to put out the flames. (Tuaran Civil Defence Force pic) TUARAN : Twenty-four houses and a vehicle were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Mengkabong here yesterday. Tuaran fire and rescue station chief Nor Amit said there were no reports of injuries. 'The fire station received a distress call at 3.34pm, and 24 firefighters, including those from the Kota Kinabalu and Putatan fire and rescue stations, were despatched to the scene. 'The team used water from fire rescue tenders and water tankers to put out the fire. They ended the operation at 10.38pm. The cause of the fire and losses are still under investigation,' he said in a statement today. The Tuaran district disaster management committee secretariat said 114 victims from 35 families were affected by the fire. 'A temporary relief centre was opened at Dewan Seri Sulaman here at 7pm. The civil defence force is still collecting information on the victims,' it said statement.
