Johor cops bust job scam syndicate targeting Russians
BATU PAHAT: A job scam syndicate targeting Russians has been busted following a raid on its call centre located in a bungalow here.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said 14 foreign and one local suspects were arrested in the operation at 5.15am on Sunday (May 25).
"The suspects used the bungalow as a call centre to offer fake online jobs to victims.
"Early investigations found that the syndicate has been active since March and targets Russians," he said in a statement here on Thursday (May 29).
He said the suspects were aged from 21 to 38.
"We also seized 14 laptops and 19 phones," he said, adding that the seized items are estimated to be worth about RM30,000.
Comm Kumar said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Section 120B of the same Code for criminal conspiracy.
"Investigation papers have been referred to the state deputy prosecutor's office for advice and police have been instructed to get additional statements to strengthen the case," he said.

Kota Kinabalu: A 43-year-old jobless was jailed six years and fined RM2,000 in default three months for causing hurt to his son with a wooden stick. In mitigation, Shahmar who was not represented asked for a lenient sentence. The court heard that while the son was in the kitchen Shahmar came from behind and hit him with wood on his shoulder, head and right leg. The victim's mother then tried to stop Shahmar who suddenly took a machete and threatened the victim with the weapon. Cops tracking down eight to help in police probes

SANDAKAN: Police are currently tracking down several individuals identified to assist in investigations related to a number of criminal cases in the district. Police are also searching for Mohd Nazrie Mohd Sha (MyKad: 770914-12-5581) for voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and Firdawis Daud (MyKad: 860401-12-5489) under Section 46(N) of the Prisons Act 1995. Processing, sale of ketum juice: 4 arrested in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: Four men aged between 20 and 50 were arrested in separate raids across several villages in the district for suspected involvement in the processing and sale of ketum juice. Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of Kota Belud District Police Headquarters (IPD) conducted the raids from May 24 to June 5. Advertisement He said the arrests were made following intelligence gathering in Kampung Taun Gusi, Tampasuk 1, Kampung Suang Punggur, Kampung Pintasan and Kampung Ambong. 'The first arrest involved a man at a house in Kampung Pintasan at 11.30am, along with the seizure of eight bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. 'In the second raid at 3.25pm at a house in Kampung Taun Gusi, a man was arrested along with 24 bottles, each containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice,' he said. On June 5, a raid was conducted at a house in Kampung Ambong where another two men were arrested along with 10 bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum juice. Advertisement 'Several items believed used to prepare the ketum juice were also seized. 'Further investigations revealed that the ketum juice was sold to customers at RM25 to RM30 per bottle,' he said.
