Packers OL Elgton Jenkins reporting to mandatory minicamp, unlikely to practice
Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins is reporting to mandatory minicamp this week but is not expected to practice, according to reporting from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Jenkins, who is transitioning to the center position for 2025, wants a reworked contract and has skipped the rest of the offseason workout program.
Players who miss mandatory minicamp are subject to escalating fines across the three days. The Packers' minicamp runs from June 10-12.
It can be assumed Jenkins is attending the minicamp to avoid the fines but will not participate to avoid risking a serious injury and jeopardizing the contract negotiations.
The Packers signed Aaron Banks to a big deal and let Josh Myers walk in free agency, creating a position change for Jenkins, who has played every offensive line position at the NFL level. But with two years left on his deal, Jenkins is seeking financial assurances from the Packers before moving from guard to a less lucrative position at center.
Jenkins has already forfeited a $500,000 bonus for attending the offseason workout program. His base salary is set to be $11.7 million in 2025 and $18.5 million in 2026, but both are non-guaranteed.
Jenkins was the team's preferred starter at left guard last season. He received All-Pro votes at guard and has twice been a Pro Bowler while playing guard.

Biggest takeaways from the Panthers' final outing of 2025 mandatory minicamp

Biggest takeaways from the Panthers' final outing of 2025 mandatory minicamp Before heading off for summer vacation, the Carolina Panthers wrapped up their 2025 edition of mandatory minicamp on Thursday. So, what did they leave behind ahead of the break? Here are the biggest takeaways from the third and final session of the phase: Defense wins the day After a dominant showing from the offense on Wednesday, the defense bit back with quite a performance this afternoon. The outing was highlighted by a few interceptions, including one from starting cornerback Mike Jackson. Carolina's defense was also led by linebacker Christian Rozeboom, who deflected multiple passes. Last year, the Panthers set a new NFL single-season record for most points allowed (534). So seeing the defense, which underwent some construction in recent months, turn in a win had to feel good. Derrick Brown's goal That lowly 2024 defense was not exactly helped by the absence of defensive lineman Derrick Brown, who missed 16 of 17 games due to a knee injury. He talked about zeroing in on his return to the practice field. "Hopefully, very close," he said. "I expect to be out there in training camp. Load management, and hopefully in the next few weeks, I get cleared. So that's the goal and then at that point, it's just getting back in football shape and being able to go out there and play with the team." Brown was a Pro Bowler the campaign prior, where he amassed 103 tackles—the most ever by a defensive lineman in a single season. Message received? This may sound odd, but the Panthers might have themselves a good depth problem at the wideout position. Head coach Dave Canales admitted that it may be hard to determine which receivers ultimately make the initial 53-man roster. "I think it's gonna be very difficult," Canales stated. "I think that we're gonna have to take it through the preseason games, and see who can help us. And special teams is gonna be such a huge piece of that puzzle. How can these guys help us in the coverage units? Can they help us as a returner? Those things, that added value—if it's even the special teamer—makes the team. "So that's the part where we get to challenge our guys. Find a role, take this thing seriously. You're not here just to catch passes. We only get so many helmets on game day, so we need all of you. We need you guys to contribute in different ways.' Some wide receivers who may be fighting for a spot include former Pro Bowler Hunter Renfrow, veteran and Canales favorite David Moore and 2025 sixth-round pick Jimmy Horn Jr. Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content.

Jets' Sauce Gardner: I feel 'pretty good' about extension talks

New York Jets cornerback and two-time All-Pro Sauce Gardner is now extension-eligible. On that note, how have extension talks with the Jets fared this offseason? "I feel pretty good about how the [extension] talks have been going," Gardner said on Thursday, according to The Athletic. New York selected Gardner, who has been present for mandatory minicamp, with the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati, with the cornerback going on to be the 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year; he totaled two interceptions and an NFL-high 20 passes defended. Gardner was one of three first-round selections for the Jets in 2022, with wide receiver and No. 10 pick Garrett Wilson winning 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. Linebacker Jermaine Johnson, who had 7.5 sacks and was a Pro Bowler in 2023 but saw his 2024 campaign end after two games due to a torn Achilles tendon, was the team's third 2022 first-round selection at pick No. 26. The Jets picked up the fifth-year options on Gardner, Wilson and Johnson in April. Last season, Gardner totaled one interception, nine passes defended and 49 combined tackles in 15 games; he missed two games due to a hamstring injury. Gardner ranked 13th among cornerbacks with a 78.5 pass-rush grade, 34th with a 73.1 coverage grade, 47th with a 70.2 overall grade and 167th with a 53.6 run-defense grade, according to Pro Football Focus. While the Jets are coming off a five-win season, their pass defense was one of the bright spots from an otherwise ugly 2024 campaign, as they surrendered just 192.6 passing yards per game, good for fourth in the NFL. They have a new head coach in former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator and former Jets Pro Bowl cornerback and first-round draft pick Aaron Glenn. The Jets lost cornerback D.J. Reed to the Lions on a three-year, $48 million deal in free agency, which they countered by bringing in former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Brandon Stephens on a three-year, $36 million deal. Sticking on the contractual front, Derek Stingley Jr. (three-year, $90 million deal with the Houston Texans, $30 million average annual salary) and Jaycee Horn (four-year, $100 million deal with the Carolina Panthers, $25 million average annual salary) became the new highest-paid NFL cornerbacks earlier this offseason. Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward still has the most combined money among cornerbacks with a five-year, $100.5 million deal, which he signed in the 2022 offseason. Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw trashes Aaron Rodgers, tells him to 'stay in California'

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to go through organized team activities this week without Aaron Rodgers on their roster. If Terry Bradshaw had his way, it'd stay like that. The Steelers legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer left no doubt about his feelings on the Steelers' free agency dance with Rodgers during a recent radio interview. Advertisement "That's a joke," Bradshaw said on 103.7 The Buzz's "Morning Mayhem" show about Rodgers potentially joining the Steelers. "That is, just to me, a joke." Rodgers said he communicated with the Steelers front office after he became a free agent this offseason. The former Green Bay Packers quarterback hasn't made a commitment for a 21st season, though he hasn't announced his retirement, either. He cited his age, a serious relationship and people in his inner circle going through challenging times as reasons for not being ready to commit to a team. The Steelers organization has said it's willing to be patient with the 41-year-old Rodgers. But the clock is ticking as the preparations for the 2025 season continue with OTAs and a mandatory minicamp next week. Terry Bradshaw talks with Aaron Rodgers on stage after the Green Bay Packers won Super Bowl XLV on Feb. 6, 2011. Bradshaw, who won four Super Bowl titles with the Pittsburgh Steelers, doesn't want Rodgers anywhere near his old team. Rodgers and the Steelers have been in talks this offseason but the four-time NFL MVP remains a free agent. Rodgers, though, recently hinted at playing for the Steelers during a recent podcast and his former head coach in Green Bay is certain it will happen. Advertisement The 76-year-old Bradshaw, who led the Steelers to four Super Bowl victories in the 1970s, doesn't want to see Rodgers in black and gold. "What are you going to bring him in for one year?" Bradshaw questioned on the radio show. "Are you kidding me? No, man, that guy needs to stay in California, go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there." Rodgers lives in Malibu, California, in the offseason. Bradshaw also is likely alluding to Rodgers' off-the-field activities in using ayahuasca in Peru — the quarterback has been open about taking the psychedelic and is an advocate for it. He also took part in a darkness retreat in a secluded cabin in a forested region in Oregon two years ago when he was deciding whether he wanted to continue playing football. Advertisement Bradshaw isn't the only ex-Steelers to blast Rodgers this offseason. Ryan Clark, who played for the Steelers from 2006 to 2013, felt Rodgers was holding the team hostage by not making a decision. "It makes me sick, to be honest," Clark said April 15 on ESPN morning sports talk show "Get Up." Aaron Rodgers trending: Danica Patrick claims her relationship with quarterback was 'emotionally abusive' that wore her 'down to nothing' Will Aaron Rodgers play on the Steelers? Rodgers to the Steelers certainly appears likely. The Steelers unloaded their starting quarterbacks from last season and enter offseason activities with 29-year-old Mason Rudolph, who has 18 starts in seven seasons, and Ohio State rookie Will Howard, whom Pittsburgh selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, as their top two QBs. Advertisement Asked about the Chicago Bears during a recent live podcast appearance in Austin, Texas, Rodgers brought up a team — without mentioning the name — that will play in the Windy City in 2025. "I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip," Rodgers said. "I don't know. I'll have to check it out." The Steelers play the Bears on Sunday, Nov. 23, at Soldier Field. Steelers schedule The Steelers continue OTAs this week before holding a three-day mandatory minicamp June 10-12. While Rodgers hasn't been at OTAs, he held a highly publicized throwing session on the campus of UCLA with new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf in late March. Advertisement Whether that was another clue to Rodgers' plans or just a red herring remains to be seen.
