Journalist Ryan Daniels reported on Triple M a number of options had been presented to the club about what a new deal could look like.
One contract stipulation is reportedly a 'long-term commitment', news that would be music to the ears of the fan base.
'There's been a bit of a twist in this one because nothing has happened for quite a while and I can tell you the latest with this one is a bit of a strange one because my understanding is Harley's management have put some options to the West Coast Eagles to stay,' Daniels said on Triple M.
'One of them in particular is a very long deal, I don't know the specific number of years but it was described to me as very long as I think you could imagine would be nine or 10-year range.
'It would have to be between 15 and 20 million, and I would say we're heading closer to the 20 million … if you're talking 10 years into the future (salaries will go up in that time).
'I found this fascinating, the West Coast Eagles have had these presented to them weeks ago, and they haven't necessarily done anything with it just yet.
'I just found it fascinating that instead of the Eagles putting the offer on the table to consider all these options … we've now had a conversation 'well what about this?'
'And it's got a potential for Harley to have a look at a very long-term deal that will keep him at the West Coast Eagles and clearly there is some interest from Harley's side.
'That is a pretty significant update on that situation and I know there is going to be a meeting in the next few days between West Coast and Harley's management to discuss the specifics.'
Eagles coach Andrew McQualter, speaking after the club's loss to Richmond, conceded too much was being asked of Reid, at a time where his future remains unclear after next year.
'We're aware we've got a 20-year-old carrying our midfield,' McQualter said.
'It's not an easy position for him.
'I thought Harley was by far our best player … I love the way he went about it.
'I loved his team first approach, the way he attacked the ball. He was inspirational to his teammates.
'As a team, we have to find more people and players and ways to not rely on one person. There's no AFL team ever that relies on one player to be good.
'He's absolutely in (at West Coast) – he is a competitor. He's wanting to do everything to get this club out of this position.'

Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko fined for ‘insulting and profane language' against Western Bulldogs
Brisbane Lions veteran Dayne Zorko has copped a $3000 fine for his foul-mouth tirade towards the officials bench last week. The AFL deemed Zorko used 'insulting and profane language' as he exited the field of play during the last quarter of his team's 10-point win over the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba. 'The AFL reminds all players that the AFL has no tolerance for abusive or insulting conduct towards AFL umpires and other match officials,' the AFL said in a statement. Zorko played a key role in Brisbane's premiership-winning campaign last year, and he is averaging a career-high 26.7 disposals per game this season. The Lions sit second on the ladder with a 13-4-1 record, and they'll be aiming to bank their fifth win on the trot when they take on Gold Coast in Saturday's QClash at People First Stadium. Meanwhile, Hawthorn captain James Sicily can escape with a $3750 fine for his off-the-ball hit on Carlton's Blake Acres in Thursday's 24-point win over the Blues. The rough conduct charge was graded as intentional conduct, low impact and body contact. The Lions play local rivals Gold Coast in a crucial finals-shaping clash on Saturday afternoon.

Fans, former player lash AFL for Mark LeCras snub
The AFL star has shut down any talk that he wants out of Carlton. Angry West Coast fans - and even a former player - have lashed out at an AFL article for snubbing Eagles favourite Mark LeCras' career-best 12-goal haul at Marvel Stadium in 2010 as part of the venue's 25th birthday celebrations. released an article on Friday celebrating the 10 best games ever played at Docklands/Telstra/Etihad/Marvel Stadium. But West Australian fans were quick to point out the article's fatal flaw. In round 16, 2010, Lecras produced a performance for the ages, kicking goals from all angles as he led the visiting Eagles to a 32-point win over Essendon. In the club's first wooden spoon season at that. However, the superb performance, which remains the venue's benchmark, was not good enough to warrant a mention in the article that included Lance Franklin's seven majors in the 2007 elimination final and Mac Andrew's after-the-siren goal to take down Essendon last season. Fans, including former Eagles midfielder Callum Chambers, took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their dismay. 'Mark Lecras is the only name you need right here,' Chambers wrote. An account named Tax Guy wrote: 'Mark LeCras killed 12 goals. Probably deserved a mention. Wonder why you didn't?' Justo said: 'Mark Lecras wants to know where his 12 goals is? Most ever at Marvel in a game?? Vic bias.' One fan, who uses a headshot of Harley Reid for their account picture, even went as far as to post the VFL logo with the caption 'For a second there I almost forgot it's still the VFL. Thanks for reminding us'. Another fan simply posted the highlights of LeCras' 12 goals. Charles Bawden labelled the list 'laughable' for not including the crafty small forward's bag full. 'Mark LeCras exists. 12 goals on the guy YOU put in the team of the 21st century so far, Dustin Fletcher. In a wooden spoon side. Viva la VFL!' is planning a series of articles to celebrate Marvel Stadium reaching the quarter-century mark.
