Ceiling collapses during ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines' showing
A freak accident occurred during a showing of 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' which could easily have been a scene out of one of the franchise's films.
The ceiling collapsed during a showing at Cinema Ocho in La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina on May 19 at around 9:00 p.m., according to Infobae, an Argentine digital news outlet.
Fiamma Villaverde, 29, her 11-year-old daughter and a friend decided to check out the movie on a whim, but they didn't expect life to immitate art.
'The truth is, we hadn't planned to go to the movies,' Villaverde told the outlet in a translated interview. 'It was my birthday, we were walking and happened upon the theater. Since the tickets were cheaper than the rest of the week, we said, 'Shall we?' We went in, bought some popcorn, and went into the theater. The show had just started.'
Towards the end of the film, a loud crash was heard.
'There was a really loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so absorbed, but then a huge piece fell on me,' she exclaimed.
Photos of the incident show a hole in the ceiling with debris all over the floor and on seats.
A portion of the ceiling fell on her, hitting her shoulder, back, knee and ankle. She said it missed her head because she was leaning on the armrest.
'I asked for my ticket money back,' she explained. 'While I was waiting, the theater manager came to talk to me. He asked, 'How do you want to fix this?' I got angry: 'How do I want to fix this? I'm going to file a complaint. Just imagine if they hit my daughter in the head! They're irresponsible!''
She sustained some bruises and was diagnosed with trauma from the impact and was advised to undergo further X-rays. She revealed to the online newspaper that she suffers from panic attacks and an anxiety disorder.
'I'm undergoing psychiatric treatment and on medication. I have a hard time being in crowded places. I haven't been to the movies in years. I went because it was my birthday, and look what happened to me,' she said.
She said she hasn't filed a complaint yet, but has contacted a lawyer.
The theater hasn't issued a statement yet.
The 'Final Destination' franchise follows a group of people who relentlessly escape death after surviving a mass casualty event. The films' death scenes are often gruesome and occur following bizarre accidents.
'Final Destination: Bloodlines' is currently in theaters. It's the sixth movie in the franchise, which began in 2000.

'Just hot people getting killed!' Charli XCX 's puts herself forward to produce Final Destination
If you thought Final Destination was just about gruesome deaths and wild set pieces, Charli XCX is here to shake things up. The Grammy-winning pop sensation recently revealed her vision for the next chapter in the cult horror series and it's exactly what you'd expect from a self-proclaimed horror fan with an ear for pop culture. In a recent TikTok video, the Grammy-winning singer shared her enthusiasm for the Final Destination franchise ahead of the release of its latest installment, Bloodlines. She explained why the series has remained a favourite: 'It's about attractive people being killed off. There's no moralising, no deeper message. They're cursed and they deserve to die.' Her idea? To inject the series with a fresh twist by casting a group of 'It Girls', including Rachel Sennott, Alex Consani, Gabbriette, Romy Mars and Charli herself, alongside scream queen Jenna Ortega and original horror icon Sissy Spacek. Charli said: 'I think a Final Destination with this kind of cast would stay true to the franchise's formula, which plays with its own lore. It's not trying to do anything new other than have hot people die in brutal ways, with some sharp dialogue.' The Final Destination films, known for their inventive and often elaborate death sequences, have been a staple of supernatural horror since the first movie in 2000. The latest release, Bloodlines, performed strongly at the box office, achieving a franchise-best domestic opening of $51.7 million. Rachel Sennott, known for her recent breakout roles, appeared keen on the concept, responding in the comments of Charli's video with 'Ok, I'm in.' The proposal to cast a lineup of stylish young women alongside scream queens represents an intriguing evolution for the series, blending glamour and horror. Bringing in Sissy Spacek, famous for her role in Carrie, would serve as a fitting nod to horror history, bridging generations. Charli also suggested the film be directed by a horror auteur capable of balancing style and scares, ensuring the franchise's trademark inventive deaths remain front and centre. While no official project has been announced, Charli's pitch highlights a growing trend to combine fashion and genre filmmaking, and the popularity of horror among younger audiences. Whether this vision will come to fruition remains uncertain. For now, it offers a tantalising glimpse of what could be a stylish, high-profile new chapter for the Final Destination franchise.

Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Rape, Indecent and Sexual Assault Charges in London
Russell Brand appeared at a London court on Friday after being charged with rape, and indecent and sexual assault, pleading not guilty to all five charges. The disgraced comedian's first hearing had taken place earlier this month after it was confirmed that the U.K.'s Crown Prosecution Service had authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge a man, identified as 49-year-old Brand, following an investigation by detectives. The BBC reported that he pleaded not guilty to all five charges during his Friday appearance at London's Southwark Crown Court. Brand now faces a trial that is scheduled to start on June 3, 2026. The crimes he has been charged with relate to a 1999 rape in the Bournemouth area of the U.K.; a 2001 indecent assault of a woman in Westminster, London; the 2004 oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in Westminster, London; and between 2004 and 2005, the sexual assault of another woman in Westminster. When the formal charges were released, Brand, who has turned to Christianity and been baptized since widespread allegations came to light, responded to the charges in a video shared on his social media, stating: 'I've never engaged in nonconsensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.' Detectives began investigating in September 2023 after receiving a number of allegations, which followed reporting by Channel 4's Dispatches and The Sunday Times. The program aired extensive allegations against Brand. One of the women told Dispatches that Brand entered a relationship with her when he was 31 and she was 16. Their relationship lasted three months, she had said, and Brand had been 'emotionally abusive and controlling.' Another claimed that Brand raped her in 2012 in his L.A. home, according to the Sunday Times. The British celebrity denied all claims made against him, which date between 2006 and 2013, when Brand was at the height of his fame working on Big Brother's Big Mouth, Kings of Comedy and Big Brother's Celebrity Hijack. A Banijay U.K.-commissioned investigation later found informal complaints concerning Brand were made over 20 years ago on set, and another review into Brand's behavior at the BBC, in particular between 2006 and 2008 when he worked for 6 Music and Radio 2, found that fellow employees believed he 'would always get his way, and therefore stayed silent.'
