Yankees' $90 Million 3-Time All-Star 'Obvious Guy to Be Dealt' Amid Losing Streak
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources.
The New York Yankees were able to end a harsh scoring drought on Wednesday, but their losing streak grew to a concerning six games.
After struggling against the lowly Los Angeles Angels for the third game in a row, the Yankees are searching for answers at the plate without a clear solution in sight.
"You play 162, you're gonna hit a little rut like this," Aaron Judge said after the game, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "But you can't give up. You can't mope about it."
As the Yankees look to return to the World Series this year with better results than they had last season, time could be running out to make the kind of change that prevents a rut like this from persisting. And for ESPN's Buster Olney, there is a clear candidate to be moved off the team.

"Look, if you're thinking about possible change with this lineup, the guy to watch, no question, is DJ LeMahieu," Olney said on the "Baseball Tonight" podcast. "He's 36 years old. He turns 37 next month. ... I think part of the reason the Yankees put Jazz Chisholm at third base when he came off the injured list was they want to maintain flexibility in case they decide to make a change. LeMahieu would be the obvious guy to be dealt if they decide to do that."
The Yankees could be searching for a right-handed bat to improve their lineup and the infield seems like the obvious place to put such an addition, as the team already has a logjam at designated hitter and in the outfield. But trading away LeMahieu to make room for a new face would be an ignominious end for the veteran after he signed a $90 million contract to join the Yankees.
LeMahieu has been a three-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner in his 15-year career, but his playing days could be numbered. He is slashing just .244/.333/.341 so far this season and consistently deals with injury setbacks.
As a result, he might find himself on a new team by the trade deadline as the Yankees look to turn their offense around.

Yankees snap six-game losing streak with 7-3 win over Angels
The New York Yankees snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels at home on Thursday afternoon. A three-run second inning allowed the Bronx Bombers to establish a 4-2 lead early in the game as they continued to pile on the advantage. While the Angels drew closer in the sixth inning, New York put the nail in the coffin with a run in the seventh and two in the eighth. Advertisement Paul Goldschmidt and Trent Grisham each recorded two runs and two hits. Meanwhile, Aaron Judge, Jasson Domínguez and DJ LeMahieu also clocked in runs toward the victory. The win came after the reigning AL champions lost three straight to the Boston Red Sox and the previous three games to the Angels in this series. The Yankees will look to carry momentum when they face the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. For three games during the skid, the Yankees failed to score a single run, losing 2-0 to Boston, 1-0 to Los Angeles and 4-0 again to the Angels. On Wednesday, the Yankees showed signs of life despite losing, 3-2, to their visitors from out west. Advertisement "It's great to win," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said postgame. "Really, there's no panic or anything in that room. We understand, we go through it. "It's been an adverse week for us," Boone added. "A week in which we're pitching very well, doing a lot of things well, we made some mistakes along the way [and] broke out a little bit more these last few days but definitely good to salvage one and shake hands in the end. Hopefully, we get it going." After Wednesday's game, Judge insisted that the team was doing their job, noting, "That's baseball, you're going to hit a little rut like this but you can't give up. Advertisement "Guys are pitching, they're doing their job," Judge added on Wednesday. "Sometimes we're faltering on doing our job. But it's tough to say. I think it just comes down to us not executing, us not doing our job. Maybe a little passive in certain situations. But all we can do is show up tomorrow ready to go." The much-needed win kept the Yankees from closing in on the franchise's longest skid, which was 12 games in 1908. In 1982 and 2023, the team suffered nine-game losing streaks. The victory moves the Yankees to 43-31 on top of the NL East.

Dodgers Set Franchise Attendance Record, Surpassing 2 Million Fans in 40 Games
The Los Angeles Dodgers have surpassed two million in attendance in just 40 games this season. The defending World Series champions have had 2,026,238 through the gates so far. The team said Wednesday that it's the fastest they've reached that mark in franchise history. Last season, it took 42 games and in 2019, when the Dodgers set their all-time season attendance mark of 3,974,309, it took 43 games. The Dodgers have made 12 consecutive postseason appearances since 2013, winning World Series titles in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and last year. They lost back-to-back World Series appearances in 2017 and 2018. Los Angeles is 46-29 this season, good for first place in the National League West and No. 2 in the NL as a whole. 2025 MLB Prediction, Pick: Back Giants to Conquer NL West
Last week, the Red Sox shocked the baseball world by sending three-time all-star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster trade. The trade came just hours after the Red Sox swept the Yankees with a 2-0 victory, a game in which Devers homered. All seemed well in Red Sox land, as they had pushed themselves over .500 and looked to be on track to finally fulfill their pre-season potential. So, what happened, and is there a bet to be made going forward based on this deal? Let's take a look. Well, Devers' unhappiness has been well-documented, dating back to Spring Training when there was much discussion about what position Devers would (and wouldn't) play, since free-agent acquisition Alex Bregman plays third base, the same position as Devers. An unhappy player with a lofty contract was enough reason for the Red Sox to unload the lefty slugger. Still, the seemingly modest package of pitchers Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks, as well as a couple of prospects headed to Boston, is what made this deal such a head-scratcher. The Red Sox trio of elite prospects, Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell, now have one less roadblock in their daily playing path. That is another benefit to what is still, despite the explanation, a baffling move and an underwhelming return for a Red Sox team that has also dealt Mookie Betts and Chris Sale in recent years, with very little to show for it. As far as the Giants, they receive a desperately needed left-handed presence in their lineup. They now have a boosted offense that can support a dominant 1-2 punch in their starting rotation, with pitchers Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. They now sit with World Series odds in the 34-1 range for those that think they can win it all, and have 18-1 odds to reach the World Series. But the market that interests me is the NL West, as the Giants now have 19-1 odds to win the division at FanDuel Sportsbook. Yes, they would have to topple the behemoth that is the Los Angeles Dodgers . But with the Dodgers' inability to keep pitchers healthy (Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Roki Sasaki are just some of their pitchers on the injured list, with no timetable to return), the defending champs are vulnerable. Yes, they are still the best team and the rightful favorite, but they're not the invincible juggernaut they looked like heading into the season. At 19-1 odds, with a newly acquired Devers, and perhaps more moves up their sleeves, the Giants have the ability to compete with the mighty Dodgers and possibly erase the modest four-game deficit. Of all the numbers available, Fanduel's 19-1 odds to win the NL West is the most attractive, especially considering this number is in the 8-1 range at most other books. Taking a shot on the Giants to beat out the Dodgers in the NL West, as they did in 2021, will make for an exciting summer wager.
