Gerik crash: JPJ finalising investigation for legal action against bus company operator
Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the investigation is now in the final stages before being handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to decide on the charge recommendation.
'There are two investigation papers that we are preparing (to take action) against the company operator and also the company that leased the bus.
'The investigation papers are still at the JPJ level and we expect to hand them over to the prosecution soon,' he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Handover Ceremony here today.
Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had said that the JPJ would open an investigation paper against the bus company involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students due to the company's failure to operate according to the stipulated rules and regulations.
Regarding the allegation that the JPJ could not record the bus company's operator's statement because he suffered a heart attack, Aedy Fadly said his side was not informed about the matter.
'He (the bus operator) had a heart attack, it has nothing to do with the JPJ and I have not received any reports saying otherwise. We will still take action; if he goes to the hospital we will wait,' he added.
In the incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when the bus they were in overturned in an accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik.
The bus carrying 42 university students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when it collided with a Perodua Alza before overturning.

Jalur Gemilang: Don't take the law into your own hands
KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been urged not to take the law into their own hands or engage in unlawful acts against anyone committing offences related to the Jalur Gemilang flag, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said that all matters involving investigations, prosecutions, and court decisions must be left entirely to the authorities, following a reminder issued by the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) yesterday. "Do not act as the police, lawyers, or judge. It is wrong. Leave it to the police to investigate, the A-GC to prosecute, and the courts to decide," he said after launching the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign at Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Bahasa Melayu today. The launch was also attended by Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin; Information Department director-general Julina Johan; and IPG Kampus Bahasa Melayu director Dr Masitah Mohammad Yusof. Fahmi said that some people had been called in by the police following a rally held to "teach" certain parties a lesson, but further action would be handled solely by the authorities. He said Malaysians should address issues related to the Jalur Gemilang respectfully and constructively. "As Malaysians, we can also play our part. If we see a Jalur Gemilang that has fallen, we should raise it. If it is faded, replace it with a new one. If it is improperly flown, correct it ourselves. Let us not sneer, curse, or act uncivilly. We must demonstrate our patriotic spirit during the national month while reminding one another of proper conduct," he added. Fahmi said that the programme included the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya-level Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy, comprising 73 vehicles from the Communications Ministry's departments and agencies, the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), National Security Council (MKN), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Suzuki V-Strom Malaysia motorsports club, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), and the Lembah Pantai Madani Community. Additional side events included the Safe Internet campaign, aimed at raising awareness of ethical online practices among teacher training institute students. RTD seizes 270 luxury cars in nationwide crackdown

According to The Star, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Rolls-Royces were among the flashy machines caught being driven without valid road tax or insurance. JPJ director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the sweep snared celebrities, influencers and entrepreneurs, with some owing up to RM29,000 in back taxes. 'The seized cars include Ferrari, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce, with some of them still driven without road tax for about three years. 'In Johor alone, we detained 11 vehicles, including a car with an annual road tax of RM12,000. 'In Kuala Lumpur, the highest road tax arrears recorded was RM29,000,' he reportedly said at a press conference yesterday, as cited by The Star. Owners can only reclaim their luxury rides once all outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses are cleared. 'Driving without a valid road tax and insurance puts not only other road users at risk, but also the driver themselves in the event of accidents,' Aedy Fadly warned. 3 arrested after police bust heroin lab in Penang
Police seize 1.1kg of heroin, as well as heroin base, caffeine, various chemicals and drug processing equipment in a raid on a house in Bukit Tambun, Penang. PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested three men after dismantling a heroin processing lab operated by a drug syndicate in Nibong Tebal, Penang, on Tuesday. Seberang Perai Selatan police chief Jay January Siowou said 1.1kg of heroin, as well as heroin base, caffeine, various chemicals and drug processing equipment were seized in the raid on a house in Taman Tambun Permai, Bukit Tambun. A second raid nearby led to the arrest of a Sri Lankan man with 26kg of caffeine, reported Bernama. Police also seized two cars and two motorcycles. Preliminary investigations revealed that the first house was used as a heroin processing lab. The gang is believed to have been actively distributing heroin locally since January. All three suspects have been remanded until Aug 19.
