Lewis Hamilton issues health update as beloved companion suffers serious illness

Lewis Hamilton's fame has made his beloved bulldog Roscoe one of the most prominent pooches on the planet, but the Ferrari F1 star's ageing canine has been unwell of late
Lewis Hamilton said his beloved dog Roscoe is suffering from pneumonia as he offered an update on his faithful companion's condition. But despite the bulldog's condition and advanced age, the Ferrari star hopes to bring his pooch back to the Formula 1 paddock.
Roscoe has become an unexpected star among F1 fans. He has visited many paddocks all over the globe with Hamilton keen to be with his dog whenever possible despite his hectic schedule.

So there was widespread worry when it was confirmed that Roscoe had been unwell. And, speaking to reporters including Mirror Sport in the Ferrari motorhome at Imola this week, the Brit opened up on what has been ailing his precious pet.

"He's 12-and-a-half years old, so he's an old boy," smiled Hamilton. "He had pneumonia, but he's fine now, but definitely this is a time where every time I get a text message from the lady who's looking after him, my heart stops for a second.
"You know, what's next? I really want to try and bring him to Silverstone and take him to Monza and cheer him up. I was with him before Miami [the race before Imola]. He still wants to play. He still has that kind of spirit but he sleeps a lot."
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is seven weeks away, while the Italian Grand Prix at Monza takes place in September. Though this weekend's Imola race is his first in Italy as a Ferrari driver, the Monza race is regarded as the team's true home race.
At the height of Roscoe's illness, his trainer Kirsten McMillan opened up on the treatment that he was receiving. "He is going to his vet today. This is a vet that practises veterinary medicine where she combines Eastern and Western, that's an integrative pet practice," she said on social media.
"She's a real vet – she went to Davis [a top veterinary school in the US] and everything – but she went for a few years of additional training in holistic methods, Chinese medicine, acupuncture and things like that.

"What she is going to do with him today is a high-dose Vitamin C IV drop and this is supportive care. This is in addition to the strong antibiotics that he is correctly on for his pneumonia. And she'll do acupuncture on him, so this supports him."
Hamilton spoke about his initial experiences of being in Italy as a Ferrari driver, including his first visit to the team motorhome used at all European races. "I've walked past Ferrari [hospitality] and never went inside. If I'm really being honest, I was always too scared to go inside being from a different team," he admitted.
"So today is another realisation and feeling. You know that Italians are extremely passionate about it. It's a lot more than you expect when you're actually in it. And it's beautiful."
