Hybrid vertical take-off UAV successfully tested at Pokhran range
1 2 Nagpur: A hybrid vertical take-off and landing unmanned aerial vehicle (VTOL-UAV), which can cover a 50km radius with 8 kg ammunition — developed by Nagpur's Solar Aerospace and Defence Limited (SDAL) — was successfully tested at the Pokhran range on Wednesday. Named Rudrastra, this is a higher-range UAV that can penetrate deeper into enemy territory and come back to the original launch point. The current version has the capacity to hit troops and strike down armoured tanks. Sources said four players participated in the trials, and SDAL's UAV emerged successful. The UAV has a real-time video link and can successfully return to the original launch point. The total range, including loitering at target, exceeded 170km with an estimated endurance of 1.5 hours. Parameters like vertical take-off and landing, high endurance, precision targeting, and mission flexibility were evaluated during trials, said sources part of the development. One of the significant highlights was the successful deployment of a precision-guided anti-personnel warhead, which can target enemy troops. Dropped from medium altitude, the munition executed an airburst detonation at low height. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thousands Are Saving Money Using This Wall Plug elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Click Here Undo This achieved a lethal effect over a wide radius, meeting tactical effectiveness benchmarks, said a note about the trials. The systems have been manufactured in Nagpur, and the next step would be to supply them to the army. Based on the requirement by the army, around 40 entities took part in the development. However, only four could come up with the final product for the trials. The trials of Rudrastra follow the successful test-fire of the Bhargavastra — counter-drone system developed by SDAL held last month. This is dubbed to be the cheapest system that can bring down drone swarms with mini missiles. SDAL makes Nagastra Loitering Munition, which can carry up to 1.5 kg of payload and was also used in Operation Sindoor. Advanced versions of Nagastra are also being made as work on manufacturing Bhargavastra has also begun, said sources. The Rudrastra was developed at SDAL's plant in Nagpur and an internal evaluation was conducted here before taking it to Pokhran. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . City relives horror of 1988 IA crash
Ahmedabad: Memories from the past on Thursday returned to haunt Amdavadis. Thirty-seven years ago, on Oct 19, 1988, Ahmedabad had witnessed a similar air tragedy when Indian Airlines Flight 113 crashed near the airport, killing 133 out of the 135 people on board, including six crew members and pilots. The flight to Ahmedabad had taken off from Mumbai airport early that morning. The crash's two survivors were a young businessman, Ashok Agrawal, and then Gujarat Vidyapith vice-chancellor, Vinod Tripathi. The flight crashed in the Kotarpur area, 2.5km from the approach end of the airstrip. This spot is on the other end of the strip where the London-bound Air India flight crashed in a high-nose angle on Thursday, moments after take-off. Investigations into the 1988 crash later revealed that the pilots did not adhere to procedure under poor visibility conditions. Airport authorities were also held liable for not informing the aircraft about the prevailing poor visibility conditions. The Indian Airlines aircraft was a Boeing 737-2A8, registered VT-EAH, delivered to the airline in Dec 1970 and had accumulated 42,831 hours and 47,647 landings till the day of the tragedy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo A year after the crash, Indian Airlines offered to pay Rs 2 lakh as full and final settlement to relatives of each of the victims, the maximum amount allowed under Rules 17 and 22 of the Second Schedule to the Carriage by Air Act 1972. However, the victims' kin sued the airlines and airport authorities. A city civil court enhanced the compensation amount to a total of Rs 6 crore, with the liability divided between the airlines and airport authorities in the ratio of 70:30. Survivor Ashok Agrawal was ordered to be paid Rs 60 lakh compensation with 6% interest. Airport authorities appealed in the Gujarat high court, which reduced the compensation amount to Rs 45 lakh in 2009. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . KYC update pain may ease as RBI rejigs rules
Representative image MUMBAI: RBI has eased KYC norms to simplify compliance and to make it easier for individuals to access long-dormant bank accounts and unclaimed deposits, many of which have remained untouched for over 10 years. The move, announced through a circular on June 12, aims to ensure that anti-money laundering rules do not hinder rightful account holders from accessing their savings particularly in accounts opened to receive government benefits. RBI has asked banks to give three advance intimations prior to the due date of periodic updation of KYC and at least one intimation must be by letter. In the past customers have complained that digital alerts have been missed and they only come to know when they are not able to transact on their account. The central bank has also asked banks to allow KYC updates at any branch, irrespective of where the account was opened. It has also permitted the use of Aadhaar OTP and video-based customer identification for periodic KYC updates. Business correspondents, especially in rural areas, can now assist customers with reactivating inoperative accounts and completing KYC requirements. According to RBI, banks must take an 'empathetic view' when dealing with low-risk customers seeking to update their KYC or reactivate dormant accounts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Customers with no changes in personal information, or only a change of address, can now submit self-declarations through digital or offline channels, without the need for additional documents. Banks have been directed to organise KYC update camps, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, and to launch focused campaigns in branches with a high number of pending updates. These efforts are particularly targeted at accounts linked to direct benefit transfers and Jan Dhan accounts, where KYC compliance has lagged. According to Anand Bajaj, founder MD & CEO of PayNeary, allowing business correspondents to collect self-declarations and assist with biometric-based e-KYC, will allow banks to efficiently reach customers in areas with limited branches.
