Thrissur: Union MoS Suresh Gopi meets Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko in hospital
Thrissur (Kerala) [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Tourism & Petroleum and Natural Gas, Suresh Gopi, met actor Shine Tom Chacko at a private hospital in Thrissur.
Malayalam actor Chacko was admitted to the hospital after he met with a road accident in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Chacko and his family were in a car accident, in which the actor lost his father.
South India International Movies Awards (SIIMA) took to X and extended condolences to Chacko and his family.
SIIMA wrote, 'Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was injured in a tragic car accident near Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. The accident claimed the life of his father, CP Chacko, who died on the spot. The family was en route to Bengaluru when their car collided with a stationary lorry. Shine, along with his mother, brother, and driver, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. SIIMA extends its heartfelt condolences to Shine Tom Chacko and his family during this time of grief.'
Chacko was recently arrested in a narcotics case and was later released on bail. Malayalam actors Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi appeared before excise officials in Alappuzha in April, as part of an ongoing investigation into the seizure of hybrid ganja worth approximately Rs 2 crore earlier that month.
The drugs were discovered in the possession of a woman, who allegedly told the excise authorities that she had consumed drugs alongside both Chacko and Bhasi. Based on her statement, the excise department issued notices to the actors, prompting their appearance for questioning.
Chacko has previously also faced allegations of drug use and misconduct. On April 22, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) issued a final warning to the actor, urging him to refrain from any further drug use or disruptive behaviour on film sets. (ANI)

Eleven people died and over 50 were injured following a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday, where a large number of people gathered to participate in the RCB victory celebrations. "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered to increase the compensation amount for the kin of deceased to Rs 25 lakh each. Earlier the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each," a statement from the office of the Chief Minister stated.

Metro cable thefts: Four members of inter-state gang arrested in Gandhinagar
Four members of the inter-state Khekda gang were arrested on Saturday in connection with the theft of 700 metres of wire cabling, worth Rs 17.85 lakh, from the metro station near the Juna Koba Metro station in Gandhinagar on June 2, said Gandhinagar police. Police identified the accused as Musharraf Irshad Mulejat (32), Rashid Ishaq Ishmael Dhobi (21), Rashid Abdulaziz Shabbir Ansari (45) and Irshad Majid Allahmehar Malik Teli (33), all residents of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh The theft had come to the fore late night on June 2 after the IPL cricket match got over, said police. The Juna Koba Metro station falls in the jurisdiction of Infocity police station. Soon after the theft, SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetty had set up four teams, including officials from the Local Crime Branch (LCB) to crack the case. While probing the CCTV footage, the police identified two suspicious looking vehicles, said officials. After the police managed to extract the registration plates of the two vehicles, they found the owner of the vehicles who gave them the names of the accused persons, said the police. Meanwhile, the LCB personnel received a tip-off about the accused being present in Kalol town of Gandhinagar. The police reached the spot and arrested the accused while recovering several pieces of the copper cables. The accused have been arrested under BNSS Sections 35(1)(e) (right to arrest without warranty) 35(1)(e) (right to arrest without warranty) and 106(1) (seizure of property). A statement from Gandhinagar Police on Saturday said that when the four men were questioned, they allegedly revealed 'the role of a total 13 persons involved in the theft of the cables'. The accused also confessed to have stolen copper cables from the Shahpur Metro station on May 22, said the police statement. According to the police, one of the accused — Masoom Yasin Malik — along with another set of thieves, was involved in stealing cables from Gyaspur Metro station. Apart from theft of Metro cables in Gujarat, the accused also allegedly confessed to theft of the same material from Metro projects across the country. The accused have carried out similar theft 14 times in Delhi; 12 times in Pune and six times in Panvel of Navi Mumbai, both in Maharashtra. They also confessed to thefts in Indore and Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh. The Gandhinagar police named 11 others, still absconding, as part of this Khekda gang. One of the accused, identified as Raja Qureshi, said the police, was allegedly involved in almost all the thefts across various states. He was also their buyer and financed the thefts, said the police. Modus Operandi The Gandhinagar police said that the accused used to target Metro projects across India. They would first book hotel rooms near the stations and hire cars. They would then approach a real estate broker to rent a house where they could stash their stolen material, said the police. They would then conduct their reconnaissance along the Metro route. After deciding on an appropriate spot, they would park their rented vehicles near a pillar and use a tree to make a zipline to the top of the pillar to reach the tracks, according to the police. They would then cut the cables using large cutters and load them onto their vehicles and hide the loot in their rented house, said the police. They would then make the effort to pry the copper cabling from the rubber insulation, pack it in parcels and then send them to Delhi in parcels through the railways. They would then sell it in Delhi, said the police. A police probe into the matter is ongoing and the cops are trying to arrest the other members of the gang in coordination with police officials in other states.

Home Minister Amit Shah felicitates Chhattisgarh police officers
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (June 7, 2025) met police officers from Chhattisgarh who played a key role in recent anti-Maoist operations. Congratulating them on the success of these operations, he said that the Union Government is 'committed to freeing India from the menace of Maoism'. In a post on X, the Home Minister said, 'Met the officers who played a crucial role in the recent anti-Maoist operations and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. I am eager to meet the brave jawans who made these operations successful with their courage and will soon visit Chhattisgarh to meet them. The Modi Government is committed to freeing India from the menace of Maoism.' The police officers were felicitated for recent operation carried out by the Chhattisgarh Police, including its District Reserve Guards (DRG) units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur districts, in the interior areas of Abujhmad from May 18 to 21. On May 21, during an encounter in the forests of Boter village, 27 Maoists, including Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju, alias Gaganna, were killed. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition too were recovered. The officers involved in the operation, including Chhattisgarh Director-General of Police Arun Dev Gautam; Additional DGP (Anti-Maoist Operations/SIB/STF) Vivekanand; Inspector-General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj; Superintendent of Police (Narayanpur) Prabhat Kumar; Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Jitendra Yadav; and Superintendent of Police (Maoist-free Bastar District) Shalabh Singh, were felicitated by Mr. Shah. The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai; Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sharma; Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan; Director, Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka; and several other senior officials.
