India's Faizan Anwar beats Ghana's Kpakpo in main event; Danylo wins WBA Asia Middle-East title
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 19 (ANI): India's undefeated pro-boxer Faizan Anwar secured a dominant victory over Ghana's Kpakpo Allotey in the 10-round Welterweight international professional boxing clash in the main event of the Super Fighter Series 3 at the Sunburn Union here.
The Dubai-based star Anwar, originally from Kolkata, sent the crowd into applause after every round as Bengaluru witnessed a world-class fight card featuring ten intense match-ups hosted by Grassroot Boxing and Crown Boxing. Fighters from across India and different countries, including Ghana, Ukraine, and Belarus, lit up the ring, according to a press release from WBA.
The co-main event for the WBA Asia Middle-East Super Lightweight title saw Danylo Honcharul of Ukraine defeat Ruslan Kamilov of Dagestan. After his opponent retired in Round 3, Danylo took the victory and the title, and a Technical Knockout was awarded to him.
In other supporting contests, F. Zoramchhana of Mizoram beat Bengaluru-based Harsh Saroha through a Unanimous Decision. At the same time, another Bangalore-based pro-boxer, Kamla Roka, took a unanimous decision win over Mehakpreet of Punjab.
Three others who made Bangalore their home to advance their pro-boxing careers, Rohit Choudhary of Punjab, Aman Bahadur of West Bengal and Ritesh Singh Bisht of Uttarakhand, also won their bouts.
In the fan-favourite women's fight, Rani Devi of Haryana defeated Aleksandra Sitnikova of Belarus by unanimous decision.
'My vision is clear -- to build a world-class platform for Indian professional boxing and its fans. It's time we hosted global-level fights on home soil, rather than always looking abroad,' Mujtaba Kamal, Founder of Grassroot Boxing, said as quoted from a press release by WBA.
At the same time, Rani Kamal, Co-founder, echoed the sentiment, saying: 'We're here to raise the bar -- to bring international-calibre boxing events to India and redefine the standard.'

Neeraj Chopra to compete with some big names in inaugural edition of NC Classic 2025
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Along with two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, two-time world champion Anderson Peters from Grenada, Rio Olympics 2016 gold medallist Thomas Rohler of Germany and Kenya's Julius Yego are some of the names who will be participate in the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic, which will take place on July 5. The NC Classic was originally slated to be held on May 24 but was later postponed to July 5 due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. While Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will headline the meet named in his honour, the Indian athlete will face stiff competition from some of the sport's biggest names. The organisers of the event confirmed a 12-member entry list for the inaugural NC Classic on Friday. as per the The roster remains nearly identical to the original entry list released prior to the postponement, with just one change - Japan's Genki Dean has been replaced by Poland's Martin Konecny. Anderson Peters, Thomas Rohler, and Julius Yego - the 2015 world champion and Rio 2016 silver medallist - will participate as originally planned. The line-up also includes Pan American Games champion Curtis Thompson of the USA, Brazil's Luiz Mauricio da Silva and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage. Meanwhile, Asian Games medallist Kishore Jena, Sachin Yadav, Rohit Yadav and Sahil Silwal will represent the local challenge alongside Neeraj. Sachin Yadav recently won the silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, Republic of Korea, finishing behind Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. The NC Classic, co-organised by Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sports, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and World Athletics (WA), will be held at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. It was originally set to be hosted by Panchkula's Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Neeraj's home state of Haryana but was later moved due to issues with the floodlights at the initial venue. Classified as a WA 'A' category or Continental Tour Gold-level meet, the NC Classic will be highest-tier international athletics event hosted in India. KL Rahul (26*) and Karun Nair (16*) were unbeaten on the crease. England Lions skipper James Rew won the test and opted to field at the County Ground. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the innings for the visitors. Both batters started their innings slowly and played the bowlers very carefully. Jaiswal and Rahul put on a partnership of 28 runs before the former was sent back to the pavilion on the bowling of right-arm seamer Chris Wakes. Following Jaiswal's departure, India A skipper and right-hand batter Abhimanyu Easwaran came out to bat. At the score of 40 in the 11th over, Easwaran was dismissed by Chris Woakes.
