Rabat – The Emerging Business Factory (EBF), an innovation incubator based in Marrakech, is set to participate in the Green & Resilient UrbanShift Africa Forum 2025 and City Academy.
The event will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from February 17 to 21. It will bring together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable urban development in Africa. The forum aims to address the challenges of climate change while exploring ways to attract investments in sustainable urban projects.
EBF's role in the forum
EBF's participation in the UrbanShift Africa Forum aligns with its mission to drive sustainable development and innovation, the incubator said in a statement, noting that it supports Moroccan startups focusing on clean energy, waste management, and smart urban solutions. Through this event, EBF aims to showcase its initiatives, exchange knowledge, and build strategic partnerships.
'This involvement aligns with the 'Sustainable Marrakech City' project, an initiative supported by UNDP and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to accelerate the ecological and urban transformation of the ochre city,' according to the statement.
As part of the forum, EBF will participate in the Green and Thriving Neighborhoods City Academy, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The academy will offer specialized training on sustainable urban planning and innovation.
The Marrakech-based incubator said that the red city has positioned itself as a model of sustainability in Africa, with EBF contributing to this vision through projects that promote digital transformation and ecological transition.
The incubator provides entrepreneurs with tools such as digital transformation kiosks (KTD), the Mapathons.com platform for participatory mapping to improve urban planning, and thematic hackathons.
In addition, EBF's Growing Youth Climate Innovation Incubator helps support young entrepreneurs working on climate-focused startups.
The incubator is set to present these initiatives at the UrbanShift Africa Forum to highlight the role of digital and green technologies in shaping Africa's cities.
EBF's participation in the event is driven by five main objectives, including accelerating green and inclusive transition, promoting green technologies and innovation, building strategic partnerships, enhancing skills and visibility, exchanging knowledge and inspiration, and strengthening Morocco's position in urban innovation.

In addition, EBF's involvement in the UrbanShift Africa Forum is set to support Morocco's leadership in sustainable urban development. This participation is also a step toward positioning Marrakech as a hub for sustainable and digital transformation in Africa.
To further amplify the impact of its initiatives, EBF has partnered with Morocco World News (MWN) to support startups and innovative projects. This collaboration will officially launch at GITEX, the leading technology event in the MENA region, which would provide a global platform for showcasing Moroccan talent and solutions.
'It will be an opportunity to delve deep into innovation trends, highlight the most promising Moroccan startups, and position Marrakech as a key hub for digital and sustainable transformation,' noted the statement.
Co-founded by Taouk Aboudia, EBF sees its participation in the UrbanShift Africa Forum as a valuable opportunity to strengthen its network, build alliances, and contribute to shaping the future of African cities.
The incubator 'hopes that this journey and participation will strengthen ties with members of this multidisciplinary delegation, from local authorities to universities, from municipal leaders to associations.'
The UrbanShift Africa Forum focuses on building green, resilient, and sustainable cities across the continent.
It will gather 250 participants from over 30 cities and attendees will include mayors, city officials, national government representatives, investors, businesses, and civil society organizations.

Morocco, Spain Sign MoUs For Four Catalan Projects of 500 Million MAD Investment

Four memorandums of understanding were signed on Wednesday in Rabat to implement investment projects totaling 500 million Moroccan dirhams (MAD), spearheaded by Catalan companies. Concluded during a meeting between Morocco's Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence, and Policy Evaluation, Karim Zidane, and a large delegation of Catalan companies led by Josep Sánchez Llibre, President of Foment del Treball—the main employers' confederation of Catalonia—these agreements pertain to projects expected to create over 700 direct jobs in the cities of Tangier, Tetouan, and Kenitra. These projects span various sectors, including the automotive industry, waste recovery, packaging, and construction materials, reflecting Morocco's ability to turn exchanges into concrete, job-creating initiatives for its youth. As part of efforts to strengthen Moroccan-Spanish economic relations, the meeting provided an opportunity for Zidane to highlight Morocco's exceptional investment appeal and to emphasize the Kingdom's ambition, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to become a competitive and sustainable regional hub. The commitment of the Catalan companies, he noted, confirms the relevance of this trajectory, adding that the four projects reflect the willingness of these companies to contribute to Morocco's industrial development. According to him, these investments are the result of an increasingly attractive business climate, made possible by reforms undertaken by Morocco (including simplification of procedures, digitalization, and the strengthening of regional investment centers). For his part, Foment del Treball President Josep Sánchez Llibre expressed his satisfaction with the warm welcome extended to the Catalan business delegation, which came to explore investment opportunities in such a strategically important country as the Kingdom of Morocco. He highlighted the determination of these companies to strengthen their presence in Morocco, noting that these investment projects mark the beginning of a lasting and structured commitment to mutually beneficial economic development. "Catalan investments will continue to flow into Morocco. I can already announce that within a year, we will return with a new delegation of around twenty Catalan companies to explore further investment opportunities," he said. Furthermore, the Spanish Ambassador to Rabat, Enrique Ojeda Vila, welcomed the mission of the delegation, which contributes to consolidating the strategic partnership between the two countries. In addition to their geographical proximity, Spain and Morocco are each other's main economic and trade partners, Ojeda Vila noted. MAP:29 mai 2025

Morocco's El Jadida to Host First International Port Ecosystem Salon in 2026

Doha – The first edition of the International Salon for Ports and their Ecosystem (SIPORTS) will take place from February 5-7, 2026, at the Mohammed VI Complex in El Jadida. Organized under the aegis of the Ministry of Equipment and Water by LINECO Events, this pioneering event aims to position Morocco as a strategic hub in global maritime trade. The salon will bring together more than 300 exhibitors from four continents and expects to welcome around 6,000 professional visitors. SIPORTS will be structured around five thematic pavilions: institutional, port industry, operations, scientific and academic, along with a museum dedicated to ports. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, views the event as perfectly aligned with Morocco's maritime strategy. 'This initiative is perfectly aligned with the great momentum the port and maritime sector is experiencing, driven by the orientations of King Mohammed VI, aimed at strengthening Morocco's position as an essential maritime hub on both Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts,' said Baraka. Read also: Dakhla Atlantic Port and N'Djamena Corridor: Pivotal Game Changers in Africa's Economic Landscape He added that creating an exchange platform that brings together all stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities, accompanied by spaces dedicated to innovation and new technologies, 'perfectly addresses the challenges of modernization and sustainable development of our port infrastructure.' Mohcine Berrada, president of LINECO Events and organizer of this first edition, described SIPORTS as 'an international crossroads of expertise and solutions for the future.' 'Our ambition is to respond to the crucial challenges of performance, connectivity, innovation, and sustainability that are reshaping the map of global maritime trade today,' said Berrada. The event will feature an ambitious program of conferences, expert panels, international keynotes, and technical workshops. These sessions will create a space for strategic reflection and concrete exchanges to address the profound changes in the sector. Topics will include structuring new maritime routes, smart ports, eco-responsible infrastructure, and strengthened regional cooperation. Consolidating Morocco's global maritime leadership By promoting B2C and B2B meetings and showcasing innovative solutions, SIPORTS seeks to consolidate Morocco's position as an essential maritime hub in Africa and beyond. The event shows Morocco's growing stature as a pivotal force in global maritime commerce. Tanger Med port, the country's flagship maritime infrastructure, recently secured 17th place worldwide in the latest Alphaliner report of top global container ports. In 2024, Tanger Med handled 10.24 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a significant increase from 8.61 million TEUs the year before. This growth has propelled the Moroccan port ahead of established global players like Hamburg (24th with 7.82 million TEUs) and Jakarta (27th with 6.75 million TEUs). Tanger Med is now the only port in the Mediterranean and Africa to rank among the top 30 ports worldwide. The port finished the 2024 fiscal year with a revenue of $1.212 billion, a marked increase of 12.3% compared to 2023. Santiago J. Castella Surribas, president of the Port of Tarragona in Spain, recently noted that Morocco has made remarkable developments in its port infrastructure over the past 25 years, modernizing to secure a key position in international trade. Spanish media have also expressed concerns that Morocco's port performance has been outpacing major Spanish hubs such as Algeciras, Valencia, and Barcelona since King Mohammed VI inaugurated Tanger Med in 2007. The North African country is also counting on the Atlantic Port of Dakhla to provide Sahel-Saharan countries secure access to the Atlantic Ocean. The project, expected to be operational by 2029, will process up to 35 million tons of cargo annually and serve as a key gateway connecting Africa to European and American markets.
