McLaren Children's Health Fair returns to Petoskey Middle School on April 5
PETOSKEY — Get it on the books: McLaren Northern Michigan's Children's Health Fair will make its return next weekend.
McLaren Northern Michigan is welcoming families for the 31st annual fair, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Petoskey Middle School.
'This has been a longstanding tradition for many Northern Michigan families, and one we are very happy to organize,' Gar Atchison, McLaren Northern Michigan President and CEO, said in a press release. 'It is a pillar of our organization to be community-focused, and it is a commitment we take passionately. We are very excited for this year's event and the opportunity to engage with local families for the benefit of all.'
The annual event welcomes community members to learn about the various health opportunities and resources available to them locally.
In addition to offering free lunch and a chance to teach parents about best practices for keeping children safe, the Super Hero Fun Run will be back, as will a petting zoo, live music, prize drawings, crafts and more.

Additionally, many McLaren Northern Michigan care services will be at the event, covering pediatric physical therapy, stroke programming, emergency and trauma medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics and sports medicine.
There will also be representatives from groups like the Petoskey District Library, Petoskey Pediatric Dentistry, the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District and more.
First responder vehicles will be on site for kids to explore, including vehicles from the U.S. Coast Guard, local EMS agencies and police departments. Car seat fittings will be offered for families with small children as well.

King to mark official birthday with Trooping the Colour parade
Military pomp and pageantry will be on display in central London to mark the milestone but the event will also remember those killed in the Air India plane crash. The King has requested a minute's silence be observed in tribute to the 241 passengers and crew killed, and others affected, when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for Gatwick Airport came down on Thursday in the Indian city of Ahmedabad. Black armbands will also be worn by the head of state and senior royals riding in the ceremony, also known as the King's Birthday Parade, staged in Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall. Members of the royal family not taking part in the parade and who normally watch events from the Duke of Wellington's former office will not wear black armbands. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the King requested amendments to the Trooping the Colour programme 'as a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy'. In 2017, Trooping was held a few days after the Grenfell Tower blaze and the loss of life was marked by a minute's silence, a decision taken by Queen Elizabeth II. The King issued a written message soon after the Air India plane crash saying he was 'desperately shocked by the terrible events' and expressing his 'deepest possible sympathy'. He was kept updated about the developing situation on Thursday and it later emerged there was a sole survivor, UK national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. Trooping the Colour will see more than 1,000 servicemen taking part in the military display who when not performing ceremonial duties are fighting soldiers. The colour – regimental flag – being trooped this year is the King's Colour of Number 7 Company, Coldstream Guards, a prestigious regiment known as the sovereign's bodyguard which is celebrating its 375th anniversary this year. The day will end with the royal family gathering on Buckingham Palace's balcony for the traditional RAF flypast.

Greene had a solo homer in the third and a three-run double in the sixth as the Tigers improved to 19-4 in series openers. TJ Friedl and Elly De La Cruz homered for the Reds.

Sam Burns fires 65 to grab US Open lead as big names stumble

EPA-EFE OAKMONT – Sam Burns matched the third-best US Open round ever fired at Oakmont, shooting a five-under 65 to seize a one-stroke lead after the second round on June 13 as big names struggled. The 28-year-old American made six birdies against a lone bogey to stand on three-under 137 after 36 holes on the punishing layout. 'It felt like I played really well. Today was really nice,' he said. 'But there's obviously a lot of golf left on a very tough course.' The only two US Open rounds at Oakmont lower than Burns' 65 were Johnny Miller's final-round 63 to win in 1973 and a 64 by Loren Roberts in the 1994 third round. American J.J. Spaun made bogeys on three of the last four holes to shoot 72 and stand second on 138 with Norway's Viktor Hovland third on 139 after a 68 – the top trio being the only players under par after 36 holes. 'I was definitely anxious to get back out here and see how the game would pan out, and it ended up being a pretty good day,' Spaun said. 'It was more of a true US Open round, a lot of back and forth, a lot of grinding, bogeys. It was still an overall good day. I'm still right there.'
