Hyderabad: In a first of its kind initiative in the state, the Hyderabad city police has launched the Swift Women Action Team (SWAT). Comprising 35 women cops from different wings of the city police, the all-women team has undergone training in Krav Maga, a specialised self-defence technique developed by Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), as well as in unarmed combat.
The SWAT teams will be deployed during protests, dharnas, major public events, VIP movements and festivals across Hyderabad. In addition to law and order situations, they will focus on women during these events. After two months of rigorous training, the first SWAT team was inducted by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand on Tuesday.
After reviewing the SWAT team's demonstrations, Anand said that the team had received specialised training, along with specific instruction on how to safely detain and manage women during protests.
The team will soon be expanded to two platoons, comprising a total of 42 members, Anand added.
While the training primarily focussed on detaining or lifting women during protests, the team is also capable of detaining men during protests, as demonstrated during live training sessions. In addition, the team received training in general fitness, diet, and nutrition to maintain the level of fitness required for field deployment.
Anand also reviewed the relocation of police buildings from the Goshamahal police stadium and the handing over of the land to the Medical department, as it was allotted for the construction of a new building for Osmania Hospital. The police department's offices, which were previously located at the stadium, will now operate from the adjacent 11.5-acre plot.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner posts ‘what if' scenario after Bengaluru stampede deaths

A day after 11 stampede deaths in Bengaluru during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the IPL final, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand took to social media to post a 'what if' scenario. The trigger was the frenzied celebrations late into the night across parts of Hyderabad as soon as the RCB won the match. Large crowds gathered on the NTR Marg stretch, Tank Bund, and Necklace Road, prompting a swift police response after the situation turned chaotic. 'What if there were some deaths in Hyderabad too? Can anyone expect celebrations for RCB in Hyderabad city?' wrote Mr. Anand on X (formerly Twitter). Watching and hearing about the stampede in Bangalore made me wonder where we are going ! This is not a national team winning the World Cup ! It's a mere franchise called RCB which works on commercial lines and does not have a single Hyderabad player in it !? Traffic came to a standstill in multiple directions and instances of hooliganism were reported. Police rushed additional forces and carried out a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd,' shared Mr Anand. ' He articulated how impromptu celebrations triggered and choreographed by social media for the unlikeliest causes could be dangerous. 'This is not a national team winning the World Cup ! It's a mere franchise called RCB which works on commercial lines and does not have a single Hyderabad player in it !? It's not even a #Hyderabad based team,' wrote Mr. Anand. 'But with the social media playing a huge role across the country and the globe, perhaps police has to be alert for everyone and everything in future! Is it humanely possible to do so,' he concluded his post on X.

Two minor siblings go missing in Punjab

Phagwara (Punjab), June 5 (UNI) Two minor siblings were reported missing late Wednesday under suspicious circumstances from Gobindpura locality of Phagwara, police said, adding they have registered a case against unidentified persons following a complaint lodged by Satish Anand, a migrant labourer hailing from Bihar and a resident of Gobindpura. According to the complaint, Anand and his wife Radha had gone to work on Wednesday morning, leaving their two sons, Shivam (12) and Bambam (10), in the care of their maternal grandmother at their residence in Gobindpura. Upon returning home later in the day, the couple find both children missing. The grandmother, who was supposed to be supervising the children, was reportedly unaware of when or how the boys disappeared, police said. Alarmed by their absence, Anand immediately approached the police, expressing suspicion that the children might have been kidnapped. A police officer said a case has been registered under Section 346 IPC, which deals with the wrongful confinement of a person with the intent to keep him secret or out of public view. 'As of now, no arrests have been made. We are actively investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of abduction. Efforts are underway to trace the missing children. We are also speaking to neighbours and potential witnesses,' said the investigating officer, requesting anonymity. The police have launched a search operation and are examining CCTV footage from the area to gather leads. They have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that might help in locating the children. UNI GS XC PRS
