Hyderabad police launch all-women swift action team
1 2 3 4 5 Hyderabad: In a first of its kind initiative in the state, the Hyderabad city police has launched the Swift Women Action Team (SWAT). Comprising 35 women cops from different wings of the city police, the all-women team has undergone training in Krav Maga, a specialised self-defence technique developed by Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), as well as in unarmed combat. The SWAT teams will be deployed during protests, dharnas, major public events, VIP movements and festivals across Hyderabad. In addition to law and order situations, they will focus on women during these events. After two months of rigorous training, the first SWAT team was inducted by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand on Tuesday. After reviewing the SWAT team's demonstrations, Anand said that the team had received specialised training, along with specific instruction on how to safely detain and manage women during protests. The team will soon be expanded to two platoons, comprising a total of 42 members, Anand added. While the training primarily focussed on detaining or lifting women during protests, the team is also capable of detaining men during protests, as demonstrated during live training sessions. In addition, the team received training in general fitness, diet, and nutrition to maintain the level of fitness required for field deployment. Anand also reviewed the relocation of police buildings from the Goshamahal police stadium and the handing over of the land to the Medical department, as it was allotted for the construction of a new building for Osmania Hospital. The police department's offices, which were previously located at the stadium, will now operate from the adjacent 11.5-acre plot.

Despite warnings, self-styled vigilantes continue to intercept vehicles carrying livestock
Hyderabad: With Bakrid just a week away and the livestock transportation to the city increasing, the cow protection association teams continued to stop vehicles carrying the sacrificial animals, despite police warnings. In the last couple of days, the cattle traders confronted cow vigilante teams in at least three city suburbs. The teams stopped cattle traders at Ramachandrapuram in Sangareddy, Shadnagar, and Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district. In Telangana, slaughter of cows and calves are banned, but bulls and bullocks can be slaughtered if a fit-for-slaughter certificate is issued. A trader, on anonymity, said that even vehicles carrying bulls and buffaloes are being stopped illegally by 'Gau Rakshaks'. 'We face this problem every day now, as it has been getting worse from the last three to four years. It flares up during Bakrid particularly, because they know that more trucks with animals will be coming in. Ultimately, we suffer huge losses which we can't recover from,' he explained. On information of the clashes, AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig intervened and booked the cases against the groups at the police stations. 'After receiving complaints that Gau Rakshaks stopped vehicles and attacked cattle traders, AIMIM reached the spot and filed police complaints. Cases are being registered against them at respective police stations,' said Mirza Rahmath Baig. The city police are maintaining a high vigil ahead of Bakrid on June 7. The police warned the gau rakshak members not to take the law into their own hands. The activists were asked to pass on any information to the officers and a quick response was assured. The Police department already made all the arrangements to ensure that no prohibited animal is transported inside the city by setting up check-posts at all the major junctions which connect highways. Another trader said, 'The police set up check-posts in all the zones of the city, especially the south zone, to avert any possible trouble during Eid. However, despite several warnings by the police, the harassment continues by the cow protection teams.' Earlier, on several occasions, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand appealed to the public and Gau Rakshak members not to take the law into their own hands, emphasising that only government officials and law enforcement agencies are authorised to stop or inspect vehicles carrying animals.

Cyber cells in seven zones to combat cybercrime in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand on Thursday inaugurated Zonal Cyber Cells (ZCCs) across all seven zones. Speaking at a press meet at the CCS office, Basheerbagh, he said each cell will operate under the supervision of the respective DCP. The initiative aims to deliver swift, localised responses to the rising threat of cybercrime. The ZCCs will serve as dedicated hubs within each zone for registering complaints, investigating cases, blocking fraudulent transactions and ensuring maximum refunds to victims. They will also provide timely support and collaborate with the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) and external cyber forensic experts for complex investigations. Since its establishment in 2010, the CCPS has struggled to keep pace with the surge in cybercrime. Registered cases increased from 351 in 2015 to 3,111 in 2024 — a nearly 10-fold rise. Recognising this, Hyderabad police have decentralised cybercrime handling by setting up ZCCs. Staffed by 61 personnel — including seven sub-inspectors, three head constables, 36 police constables, and eight home guards — the ZCCs will act as task forces assisting local police in case detection, investigation, and refund facilitation. Cyber Crime DCP D Kavitha highlighted that these dedicated units possess the specialised skills required for cyber investigations, which local stations often lack. The police urge citizens to report cybercrimes via the 1930 Cyber Crime Helpline or at nearby police stations. Complaints registered on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal are forwarded to ZCCs for prompt action, strengthening Hyderabad's digital security framework.

City police launches Zonal Cyber Cells to combat cybercrime
1 2 3 Hyderabad: In another step towards combating cybercrime, Hyderabad city police on Thursday launched Zonal Cyber Cells (ZCCs) across all seven law and order zones in the commissionerate. The move comes in response to an alarming 786% surge in cybercrime cases over the past nine years. City police commissioner C V Anand said that 61 specially trained personnel have been deployed across the seven newly launched ZCCs, including seven inspectors, seven sub-inspectors, three head constables, 36 police constables and eight home guards. "Cybercrime cases in Hyderabad increased from 351 cases in 2015 to 3,111 cases in 2024. The sole Cybercrime police station (PS) is handling all major cases in the city. Law and order police stations are registering the minor cybercrime cases where the loss is below Rs 1 lakh. But due to workload and lack of skills, the investigation sometimes suffers. The ZCCs will bridge this gap," Anand said. The ZCCs is headed by an inspector and will operate from zonal DCP offices. In cases where the loss is below Rs 25,000, local police or ZCC will initiate the process to freeze the amount. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Investigation of all cybercrime cases where loss is above Rs 25,000 and below Rs 1 lakh will be done by ZCC staff. FIRs and documentation will be done by local police, but arrests and follow-up of trials will be by the ZCC team. If the loss is Rs 1 lakh or above, the main Cybercrime PS will register the case and investigate. In social media harassment or offensive message cases, if the accused are known, law and order police will arrest them. If the offenders are unknown, ZCC will take up the probe. "We will analyse the performance of ZCCs for two to three years and, subsequently, they may be converted into full-fledged Zonal Cybercrime police stations," Anand said. Apart from investigations and arrests, ZCC will also take up awareness work in the zone.
