Wiegman's appointment in September 2021 was a statement from England.
The FA hired a manager who had won Euro 2017 with the Netherlands on home soil before guiding her home country to the final of the 2019 World Cup, gaining global recognition as one of the very best in the game.
That success has continued with England. Her arrival was delayed by the postponed Tokyo Olympics but Wiegman took over what had been a struggling side and instantly delivered results, culminating in victory at Euro 2022 less than a year into her reign.
That success at Wembley made Wiegman the first coach to deliver back-to-back European titles for different nations.
They followed it up with a win over world champions the United States before adding the Arnold Clark Cup and the Finalissima to the trophy cabinet.
The following year, amid rumours that rival nations wanted to poach Wiegman, England reached the final of the World Cup despite missing several key players, but Olga Carmona's goal broke English hearts as Wiegman finished a World Cup runner-up again.
Despite that disappointment, the FA's faith in Wiegman was clear as she signed a new contract through to 2027.

Spain's moment of glory in Australia was swiftly followed by controversy. RFEF boss Luis Rubiales kissed forward Jennifer Hermoso during the trophy presentation – for which he was later found guilty of sexual assault – and when he was forced out of the federation, coach Jorge Vilda also followed.
Out of that, Tome stepped up from her position as an assistant to become the first female coach of the Spanish team.
The former midfielder, capped five times in a playing career during which she won two Spanish titles, one with Levante and one with Barcelona, moved into coaching straight after her retirement in 2018 and was appointed to Vilda's staff in the same year after gaining her UEFA Pro Licence.
When she stepped up to the top job in 2023 there were question marks over whether she was ready and although Spain won the Nations League in February 2024, beating France in the final, those critics returned after they finished fourth at the Paris Olympics.
But Spain have won every game so far at Euro 2025 and if they finish it off with the trophy on Sunday, those doubters will be silenced.

And Barcelona have now offered an exciting update on the forward, by claiming he will be at top form sooner rather than later. Writing on Twitter, the Spanish giants said: 'We'll see prime Rashford soon.' Rashford has a couple more chances to impress in pre-season against Daegu and Como ahead of their first La Liga game of the season against Mallorca. Giving his verdict on his move, Rashford claimed that Flick can help him rediscover his best form. He said: 'I feel very good, it was a good performance, and it was truly wonderful to play in front of the Barcelona fans, and it was beneficial for physical fitness. 'I'm looking forward to the upcoming matches. We won today, but it's important to adapt to the team, get into the playing style and deliver good football. 'I believe Hansi Flick can make me play good football. I will play where the team needs me and try to score goals and create them from those positions. 'I'll listen to any information I hear from Flick and try to apply it to matches to help the team. My favourite position? I prefer the left side, but I can play in different positions, one of my strengths is being able to play various roles.' Rashford spent the second half of last season with Premier League outfit Aston Villa, scoring four goals in 17 appearances. Villa did have the chance to sign the forward permanently but decided not to activate that option.

Arsenal's Merino, who played alongside Isak at both Borussia Dortmund and Sociedad, has spoken highly of the Swedish international on several occasions, highlighting his adaptability and how he takes being the best teammate he can be 'very seriously'. Speaking to CBS in 2021, Merino said: "I think he's a great player. I have the luck of being with him in Dortmund as well, we were there together for six months and when he came here to La Real I was really surprised. "I was really happy to see him, and we could talk a lot about our time in Dortmund. Right now he's a big, big piece for us, he's doing great he's adapting really, really good here, everybody loves him in the dressing room. "I think he speaks Spanish perfect, so that talks very good about him, the way he wants to adapt here, the way he's so serious about his job and about not only football, but you know being a good teammate, being a professional." After his switch to Newcastle a year later, Merino maintained his praise and backed him to be a hit in the Premier League, telling The Athletic:"Alex has already started well. His mindset is very good. He can adapt to whatever you tell him. "When he came here, he had to adapt to a very specific system of playing where he had a specific role to make an exact movement when the ball was in a certain position. "Being from Sweden and being able to adapt showed how smart he is. With his abilities, his speed and strength, the Premier League is a good place for him. He'll be great for the Magpies." One quality he consistently highlighted was Isak's capacity to adapt, a characteristic that could serve him well should he secure a transfer to Liverpool this summer. Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has responded to Liverpool's rejected bid, which was turned down by the club's board. He said: "I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. "I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. "I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again."
