Cycling teams withdraw from stage race after cars invade course
Soudal Quick-Step, Lidl-Trek, EF Pro Cycling, and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe cited safety concerns caused by incidents of vehicles entering roads used by the race that should have been cordoned off.
'Our team is one of the several that have decided to retire from today's #EDB25 stage due to several incidents over motor vehicles being allowed onto the race course,' Soudal Quick-Step said on X.
'We find this unacceptable and decided not to rejoin the stage as we prioritize the safety of our rides and staff.'
Cyclingweekly.com said 'stage three was neutralized after the peloton stopped for a vehicle on a roundabout.'

Arsenal signs Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad
LONDON (AP) — Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad on Sunday, finally making the move to the Premier League after turning down Liverpool last year. The transfer fee wasn't disclosed but the BBC reported Arsenal has paid almost 60 million pounds ($82 million) for the 26-year-old Zubimendi. The holding midfielder made 236 appearances in all competitions for Sociedad after coming through the club's academy. He played there alongside Mikel Merino, who joined Arsenal last year. Zubimendi has played 19 games for Spain, including coming on as a half-time substitute in the 2-1 win over England in the 2024 European Championship final. 'I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me,' Zubimendi said. 'They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.' Arsenal has finished second in the Premier League in each of the past three seasons. 'Martin is a player who will bring a huge amount of quality and football intelligence to our team,' said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, a fellow Spaniard. 'He will fit in really well and he has all the attributes to be a key player for us.' Zubimendi slots into the squad in place of Thomas Partey, whose contract expired this summer. After advancing to face Italy's Lorenzo Sonego on Monday in the fourth round, Shelton spoke in an on-court interview in front of a crowd that included his sister, Emma, and his girlfriend, U.S. national soccer team star Trinity Rodman . 'I've been playing well this week. It's not just been me here. I have a great team. My parents are here. My grildfriend's here. Also, my sister's here. She's been here for every match that I've played this tournament so far. She's been the lucky charm,' said the 10th-seeded Shelton, a 22-year-old American who has appeared in two Grand Slam semifinals. 'But she has work back in the U.S., starting on Monday. She works for Morgan Stanley.' That drew some boos from spectators as Emma covered her face with her hands.
