Deputies arrest man accused of firing shots in Livingston Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Deputies arrested a man accused of firing shots in Livingston Parish.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to an area on LA Hwy 42 near Hwy 16 about shots fired shortly before 2 a.m. April 6. Sheriff Jason Ard said deputies found a vehicle crashed in a ditch with no one on the scene.
'The two incidents were found to be related,' Ard said. 'LPSO detectives identified and arrested the driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Jacob Ferguson, of French Settlement.'
Ard confirmed that no injuries or property damage was reported.
Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on charges of illegal discharge of a firearm and hit and run.
'Thank you to citizens in the area who worked with us in this investigation,' said Ard.

It was the 'Summer of Love' all over again — and America has had a gutful. The president could not have asked for a better advertisement for his tough border policies. He always said that the millions of illegal aliens who swarmed over the border under Joe Biden was an invasion, and here were the invaders making his point for him. 'These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED,' he said on Truth Social. This time, despite the complicity of California authorities, the rioters are facing overwhelming resistance. He was particularly disgusted by the tactic of protesters spitting in the face of federal officers. 'I have a little statement: 'They spit, we hit.' . . . Nobody's going to spit on our police officers. Nobody's going to spit on our military, which they do as a common thing. They get up and they start spitting in their face. That happens, they get hit very hard . . . We're going to have troops everywhere. We're not going to let our country get torn apart.' Law and order is what voters chose in November, and their good sense has been vindicated ever since. Now, a majority of Americans think the country is on the right track for the first time in Rasmussen polling history. Under Biden, in November 2024, the numbers were reversed. Only 26% said the country was on the right track, while 63% said wrong track. Trump is moving ahead relentlessly, dragging in investment trillions, trying to end two wars, bullying and schmoozing foreign leaders, bending Congress to his will, bulldozing every obstacle in his path, including the unfortunate Musk, while enthusiastically planning a new White House ballroom. A clue to why Trump's popularity is defying gravity comes from a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, 'Art of the Surge,' about his historic return to the White House. The project has been a labor of love for Tucker Carlson's former longtime producing partner, Justin Wells, who has been shadowing Trump for almost a year. From the Butler, Pa., assassination attempt to the opening scene of Season Two, in which Trump learns how to cook French fries at McDonald's, Wells secured historic behind-the-scenes access that no candidate, let alone a president, has ever granted. But Trump is an open book, the most accessible president in history. How far would Dems have let the LA riots go if Trump HADN'T sent in the National Guard?
Police in Los Angeles finally began moving to disperse the anti-ICE rioters late Saturday night — after President Donald Trump announced he was sending in the National Guard. Until then, cops were under orders to stand down as the 'mostly peaceful protesters' hurled rocks, bricks and fireworks at federal agents — also torching vehicles and physically blocking ICE enforcement actions. The rioters filmed their own violence, sharing it on social media. Advertisement And it all followed Mayor Karen Bass' incendiary words Friday as she slammed ICE raids taking dozens of illegal migrants into custody. 'We will not stand for this,' Bass declared, insisting ICE's actions 'sow terror in our communities and disrupt basic principles of safety in our city' and bragging that her office was 'in close coordination' with lefty 'community organizations' — an outright cue for the rioting to begin. By the time police finally got orders to control the chaos, they had to engage in running battles with the mobs in downtown LA and the suburb of Paramount. Advertisement How bad would it have gotten if Trump hadn't announced that 2,000 National Guard troops were on their way? Gov. Gavin Newsom denounced Trump's move as 'purposefully inflammatory' — a clear sign that he wasn't going to intervene and proving that the prez was entirely right to cut the pretty boy out of the chain of command. We'll never know for sure how bad Bass and Newsom would've let things get — but we do know that just months ago they were completely feckless in the face of a natural disaster. Were they going to be more aggressive in fighting fires set by their own political allies? If you don't shut rioting down fast and hard, it keeps growing: Los Angeles learned that lesson in the 1992 Rodney King riots — though Bass and Newsom have either forgotten that fact, or don't care. Here's the thing: A Democratic president waved 10 million illegal migrants into the interior, and the nation responded by electing Trump to send the masses back home, starting with the violent criminals among them as well as those who'd exhausted their legal claims to stay. But plenty of Democratic pols still hold power — and are using it to protect the Biden-Harris 'legacy' against the Trump deportation drive even in these open-and-shut cases.
