Cybercrime awareness session held
Speaking to the students, Inspector Suryanarayana emphasised that cybercrimes are increasing daily and urged everyone to remain vigilant and aware. He stressed the importance of educating family members and friends about cyber threats, noting that both educated and uneducated individuals fall victim to cybercriminals.
The session covered various cyber fraud methods including fake SMS messages, OTP scams, fraudulent bank calls, fake WhatsApp links, bogus loan apps, KYC pending scams, digital arrests where criminals impersonate police, CBI, and high-ranking officials to extort money, courier-based frauds, honey traps, lottery scams, debit/credit card frauds, investment scams promising high returns for minimal investments, video call recording for blackmail, and other cybercrimes.
The inspector advised students to recognise that nobody gives away money free, avoid greed, and educate their parents and relatives about these threats. He emphasised that students should help their families stay alert to prevent falling victim to cybercrimes. Victims were advised to immediately report incidents to the toll-free number 1930, which could help recover lost funds with proper complaint details.

A key concern raised was the loss of flexibility that previously allowed a family member to collect rations, if a beneficiary, often a young mother, was unavailable. The rigid FRS protocol, they fear, will inevitably lead to nutritional deprivation for the very individuals the scheme is designed to protect. "Under the old system, if a mother was unwell, her sister or mother could collect the food for her child. Now, that is impossible. The govt must assure that no one is deprived," Besides the rollback of the FRS, the union presented a list of demands addressing their welfare. These included smartphones for all workers, monthly reimbursement for mobile expenses, an increased budget allocation for ICDS and a significant hike in their honorarium. While the state cabinet recently approved a raise, the protesters deemed it insufficient, demanding a minimum wage of Rs 12,000 for workers and Rs 7,000 for helpers.

54 violators fined for illegal waste dumping in 3 weeks in Gurgaon

Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh receives another death threat — this time via WhatsApp
In another threat to life, popular Punjabi singer Mankirat Aulakh has received a death warning via WhatsApp from an international number. Following the threat, the singer immediately filed a formal complaint with the Mohali police. According to sources, a threatening message was sent to Aulakh's official WhatsApp number. Written in Punjabi, the chilling text warned 'Tayyari kar le mere putt, tera time aa gaya (Get ready, son, your time has come)'. 'Chahe teri janani hove ya tera bacha hove, saanu koi farak nahi painda putt, tera number launa hunda (Whether it's your wife or child, it makes no difference to us, son — it's your turn now).' The message further said: 'Eh na sochi ki tainu dhamki dena koi mazak hai, number launa putt kiddan lagda (Don't think this threat is a joke, you'll soon know what it feels like).' 'Dekhi chall putt tere naal ki-ki hona' (Just wait and see what happens to you).' A senior police officer has confirmed that the police are investigating the matter and are currently tracing the international number to identify its origin and establish whether a gang is behind the threat.
