James Prime, keyboard player for Deacon Blue, is in hospital for an undisclosed illness and so will no longer be part of the band's upcoming UK tour, including gigs in Liverpool and Birmingham
Deacon Blue co-founder James Prime is seriously ill in hospital, the band has revealed.
James, 64, won't be part of the group's upcoming UK and Ireland tour as a result of the undisclosed illness. The pop rock band, known for Real Gone Kid, Dignity and other hits, shared the news on X, which was called Twitter, confirming James - or Jim as he's affectionately known - will undergo treatment in hospital.

Part of the message reads: "Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him."

But the keyboard player, who was with Deacon Blue when they formed in 1985, has encouraged the group to continue with their UK and Ireland tour, which includes dates at large venues in Liverpool, Birmingham and Cardiff.
The full message reads: "Dear friends, We wanted to share some news with you about our brother, Jim. "Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in hospital. We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him.
"We spoke to Jim yesterday about Deacon Blue's plans for the rest of the year, and he encouraged us to continue with love in our hearts and with his full blessing that the shows go ahead, even if it means replacing the irreplacablt James Miller Prime for the time being.
"Together with Jim's family, we want to thank all the nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and compassion."
As Liverpool Echo reports, fans have shared messages of hope. One fan said: "Sorry to hear this. My very best wishes to Jim." A second said: "Sending love and best wishes xxxx"
A third added: "Gutted to hear this, praying Jim pulls through. One of my keys heroes and such a huge talent. Thoughts are with the band and Jim's family."
A fourth wrote: "All the best Jim. Thinking of your family and friends at this difficult time. Thanks to all the staff involved in Jim's care, you are very much appreciated."
Deacon Blue split in 1994 after nearly ten years of success. However, they held a reunion gig in 1999, which led to the release of a new album. Tragedy struck when original guitarist Graeme Kelling died of pancreatic cancer in 2004, which led to another period of absence until the release of The Hipsters in 2012. This album was widely praised, described as "a legitimate love for what they do" by a pundit for the BBC.

Love Island fans fear Scottish beauty Alima Gagio might be the first to leave the show

Love Island kicked off last night with host Maya Jama revealing that one Islander is at risk of being dumped from the Villa with fans believing it could be Scottish beauty Alima Gagio. Love Island kicked off last night, marking the start of summer as fans tuned in across the country, Maya Jama once again left the villa speechless with a shell-shocking announcement. The host dropped a major bombshell when she returned to the villa for a second time during the launch episode. Maya gathered the islanders in their newly formed couples around the fire-pit as she revealed the day was far from over and someone new was already on their way. ‌ Las Vegas pool host Toni entered the villa as the first bombshell of the season and the first contestant from the United States, attracting gasps and confused looks from the rest of the islanders. ‌ The couples were left stunned when Toni stated: "Good Evening UK! Surprise!" Maya quickly shared the news that Toni would be stealing one of the boys, and she eventually stole Ben from Shakira - leaving her single and at risk of being dumped from the Island. However, fans aren't worried about Shakira being vulnerable, as they fear Scottish contestant Alima will be more at risk of being dumped before she can get started. The 23-year-old Glasgow native is currently paired with construction manager Blu, but the pair failed to hit it off. Alima chose to couple up with Blu after being drawn to his dating profile - another unusual twist by production. ‌ Later in the show, Blu brutally told her: "You're not my type on paper." Alima also expressed her disinterest as she said "I'm not feeling him" after his brutal comment. This led fans of the show to believe Alima's time on the Island might be up, as Blu will get to know Shakira leaving the Scottish beauty with no-one to couple up with. ‌ Fans took to social media to express their concerns, as they have already taken a strong liking to Alima from her carefree attitude and fiery stand out Scottish accent. One viewer wrote on X, formally known as Twitter: "Alima might be in danger, there's actually no one in here for her.. The system has failed her." Another wrote: "Sneaky feeling Alima might be the girl that's been dumped." ‌ While a third viewer expressed: "Alima being arguably the most beautiful woman of this season and still getting disrespected on DAY 1… I need to sit down." A forth agreed: "If Alima is gone, so am I … 0/10 first episode just like I thought." Although one fan made a comment, suggesting an idea for the Love Island bosses: "When Alima gets dumped tomorrow and she gets booked on that flight to enter as a bombshell on Love Island USA 2 days later and she gets the hot girl summer she deserves." Which attracted the attention of other viewers, as the post gained attraction with fans expressing "I actually need this to happen" and "YESSS." The USA version of Love Island is currently filming in Fiji, having started a week prior to the UK version.

Netflix users threaten to cancel subscription after 'diabolical' new update leaves them fuming

Netflix has been globally rolling out a new interface on the platform which unimpressed viewers have described as a "big step backwards". Netflix subscribers have been left unimpressed by a fresh update on the platform's user interface. The streaming giant has started introducing subscribers to an updated app from May 19, vowing to bring "better recommendations and an improved interface that highlights what matters most to you", with high hopes pinned on this latest revamp. The update features a sleek, contemporary design and boasts features like tailored suggestions and enhanced shortcuts to much-loved shows. However, it seems that Netflix, who has around 300m users, has left some of their fans frustrated by their new home page model with some even threatening to ditch their subscription in protest. ‌ One subscriber fumed as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to write: "Netflix's update is diabolical where the hell is the coming soon section!!" Another equally irritated user chimed in: "Whoever's job it was to update Netflix UI, I'm praying for a resignation in the coming weeks. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE." ‌ Adding to the chorus of dissatisfaction, someone else remarked "[...] the NEW Netflix Update has somehow made the UI like 10000x worse, the Express reports. "It hurts my brain when I try and search new shows etc. Am I overreacting or do others not like the new UI?" Other members have also taken to Reddit to vent their frustrations. ‌ One disgruntled user penned: "It's awful. My TV updated to it automatically this week after putting off the update for ages, now it's a load of rubbish. Will be cancelling [my] subscription." A second agreed: "It's soo dire. You can't find anything. ‌ "It was so slick and easy to use before. Now it's soo clunky. I'm always willing to try new ideas, but this is a big step backwards." A third person went as far to say: "Thinking I might actually now cancel my subscription." Amid the rising backlash against the new design, a number of subscribers have rallied on to petition that Netflix reverts to its previous interface. ‌ The description outlines the grievance: "The new layout only allows users to see a sparse selection of 3 or 4 titles per screen, compared to the previously user-friendly layout of 20 or more titles. "This change not only limits variety and accessibility but also diminishes the ease-of-use Netflix was renowned for." Netflix's chief product officer, Eunice Kim, backed the revised design in May, saying: "We wanted to create an experience that was more flexible for our broad entertainment offerings, more intuitive and responsive to our members' needs, and capable of elevating the most thrilling moments on Netflix. ‌ Despite the negative feedback, other users on Reddit have pointed out that Netflix still excels compared to many other streaming platforms. However, subscribers may now need to delve deeper into data about their preferred series, encompassing everything from synopses and runtimes, to prominent awards recognition, performance metrics in Netflix's Top 10, and details on principal cast members. The streaming giant continues to assure that searching by genre and theme remains a trusty option, and reminds viewers that a welcome message will guide them through the changes upon logging in.
