Midland College announces dual credit students as new Applied Technology Ambassadors
Feb. 26—Midland College is proud to introduce its newest group of Applied Technology Ambassadors — high school seniors who are excelling in their fields and committed to advancing their education in applied technology. These students, representing multiple Career Academies (diesel tech, automotive, and energy tech), will serve as leaders within their programs and connect with industry professionals, prospective students, and the community.
"These students have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to their education and future careers, and that dedication will have a lasting impact — not only on their own success but on the workforce and economy of Midland and the surrounding communities," Erick Gutierrez, MC's Department Chair of Applied Technology, said in a news release. "By developing their skills now, they are helping to shape the future of local industries, ensuring that our region remains strong, innovative, and competitive."
The 2025 Midland College Applied Technology Ambassadors are:
— Homero Hernandez (Diesel, Midland High School)
— Raul Garcia (Diesel, Midland High School)
— David Olevera (Automotive, Midland High School)
— Haeden Wingrove (Automotive, Greenwood High School)
— Princess Olivas (Energy, Midland High School)
— Frannevic Alcala (Energy, Midland High School)
— Elyse Alvarez (Energy, Legacy High School)
To be selected, students must be seniors enrolled in an MC Career Academy, maintain good academic standing, secure a recommendation from an instructor or industry representative, and commit to a one-year term spanning their senior spring semester, summer, and first fall semester at MC. They must also plan to pursue an Applied Technology major post-high school.
As ambassadors, these students will represent MC at industry trade shows, training events, and outreach efforts, including campus visits and high school career fairs. They will also mentor younger students entering the program.
In return, ambassadors receive a scholarship to support their education at MC, recognition at events, networking opportunities with industry leaders, and hands-on training beyond the classroom. Some of this year's ambassadors are also participating in SkillsUSA competitions, further honing their technical and leadership skills.
Midland College remains committed to providing world-class technical training that meets industry demands and prepares students for successful careers. Through programs like the Applied Technology Ambassadors, MC continues to foster hands-on learning, professional development, and pathways to high-demand careers in the Permian Basin and beyond.

Applied Digital (APLD) Soars 103% on AI Hosting Deal With CoreWeave
Applied Digital (APLD, Financials) surged 103% last week after announcing a long-term hosting agreement with CoreWeave, an AI infrastructure firm backed by Nvidia (NVDA, Financials). Warning! GuruFocus has detected 10 Warning Signs with APLD. The deal, valued at $7 billion over 15 years, will see Applied lease space at its North Dakota facility to host CoreWeave's expanding AI compute stack. The move accelerates Applied's pivot deeper into AI data center infrastructure. Shares closed Friday at $13.86, tripling over the past 12 months amid strong interest in AI-adjacent plays. Both Applied and CoreWeave count Nvidia as a key backer, linking them to the broader AI rally. Technical analysts flagged a bullish cup-and-handle breakout, with price clearing key resistance last week. Volume confirmed the move, and momentum indicators show strength. Applied Digital Taps $7 Billion in CoreWeave Leases
Applied Digital (NASDAQ:APLD) surged 42% after striking two 15-year lease agreements with CoreWeave (NASDAQ:CRWV) worth approximately $7 billion in total revenue. Under the deal, Applied will deliver 250 MW of IT power to CoreWeave's Ellendale, North Dakota, AI and HPC data center, with an option to add another 150 MW. The first 100 MW facility is slated for late 2025, the next 150 MW by mid-2026, and a third 150 MW building could launch in 2027part of Ellendale's planned 1 GW capacity. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 8 Warning Signs with APLD. As Applied transitions toward a data-center-focused REIT, CEO Wes Cummins says these long-term leases cement its role as a foundational infrastructure provider for Neocloud innovators like CoreWeave, which rents Nvidia (NVDA)-powered GPU clusters. CoreWeave's stock also climbed nearly 5% on the news. Investors should care because the 15-year, multi-gigawatt lease stream provides Applied Digital with predictable, high-visibility cash flows and validates its pivot to large-scale AI data centers just as demand for GPU-backed cloud services soars. With Ellendale's first building breaking ground next year, markets will watch Applied Digital's progress on that 100 MW deployment and any additional 150 MW commitments that could push Ellendale toward its 1 GW target.
