Goalkeeper Chatchai earns ASEAN title for Buriram United in shootout
BURIRAM, Thailand, May 21 (Reuters) - Chatchai Bootprom saved three penalties as Buriram United defeated Vietnam's Cong An Ha Noi 3-2 in a shootout to win the ASEAN Club Championship title on Wednesday after a 3-3 draw in the second leg saw the tie end 5-5 on aggregate.
The 38-year-old goalkeeper kept out spot-kicks from Jason Pendant Quang Vinh, Hugo Gomes and Bui Hoang Viet Anh to earn Osmar Loss' Thai League 1 champions victory in an eventful clash in front of their own fans.
"I have never had as dramatic an experience as this in all my career," said Chatchai.
"I feel very good because we won this trophy. We wanted to win this trophy because we wanted to be the number one in ASEAN."
After a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Hanoi last week, Pendant put the visitors in front in the 15th minute when Nguyen Quang Hai played him in behind the Buriram defence, and the fullback calmly bided his time before shooting beyond Chatchai.
Cong An Ha Noi doubled their advantage from the penalty spot with six minutes left in the half, Leo Artur converting after referee Koji Takasaki awarded a penalty following a clash between Buriram United's Peter Zulj and Gomes.
Zulj made amends seven minutes from time when his shot on the turn found the bottom corner of Filip Nguyen's goal to give the home side hope.
Lucas Crispim then unleashed a thunderous free kick from 30 yards out with the last kick of regulation time to take proceedings into extra time, the Brazilian crashing his right-foot effort off the underside of the bar to beat Nguyen.
Crispim was the instigator of Buriram United's third, the winger embarking on a driving run towards the penalty area that ended with Giap Tuan Duong handling his cross and Guilherme Bissoli converted from the penalty spot in the 105th minute.
However, Cong An Ha Noi's Alan Grafite headed in Quang Hani's corner in the 118th minute to take the game to penalties, where Chatchai's heroics secured the win.

Alisson makes admission on his Liverpool future as he reaches 'decisive moment'
Alisson has been Liverpool's No 1 for seven years but his contract is winding down as questions over his Liverpool future emerge ahead of next summer's World Cup Alisson admits he doesn't want talk of his Liverpool future to dominate the headlines ahead of a World Cup year but claimed the Reds "will probably exercise" the one-year option to extend his deal. The goalkeeper moved Anfield from Roma in 2018 for a then world-record fee and he has been crucial to their success ever since. He's just won the Premier League for a second time and, in his first year, landed the Champions League. Alisson is regarded as one of the Premier League's greatest ever goalkeepers and produced a career-best performance as Liverpool beat PSG in Europe back in March. He would leave a huge void if he did depart, but doesn't expect to. The Brazilian concedes he doesn't make long-term decisions but expected to remain with Liverpool as they continue building under Arne Slot with a World Cup triumph in America on his radar come next summer. He said: "I've never been able to plan long term. Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise. It's a decisive moment in my career, with a World Cup coming up. I want to be very focused, I don't want anything external to get in the way of that." Alisson would attract no shortage of attention if he did want to leave Anfield. One avenue that could open up would be a return to his homeland. The 32-year-old began his career at Internacional before heading to Europe and seeing out careers back in Brazil has been a common move. The likes of Neymar and Philippe Coutinho have returned to South America and Alisson admits he's heard mixed things. He said: "I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not. Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter. I don't know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level. That's what I have planned." Liverpool have just allowed Caoimhin Kelleher, who has served as Alisson's deputy, to leave for Brentford. The Irishman has long shown that he has the qualities to be first choice for a Premier League club. However the Reds' decision to cash in suggests they weren't planning for him to be their No 1 long-term. Kelleher has been allowed to move to Brentford in an £18m deal. Conversely there have been several arrivals. Liverpool have announced the signing of 20-year-old star Armin Pecsi - he joins from Puskas Akademia for £1.5m. That is a club-record fee for the Hungarian top flight club. Last year a £30m agreement was agreed that will see Georgian No 1 Giorgi Mamardashvili arrive on July 1. He was allowed to remain at Valencia but will head to Liverpool off the back of an impressive Euro 2024 that made a number of teams stand up and take note. Liverpool have proved shrewd operators when it comes to moving players on once they begin declining. There is no sign of Alisson leaving but the likes of Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson and Emre Can have been unable to achieve the heights they did at Anfield once departing.

Fabio Wardley scores stunning one-shot comeback KO of Justis Huni to set up stunning world title shot
Fabio Wardley scores stunning one-shot comeback KO of Justis Huni to set up stunning world title shot FABIO WARDLEY'S baby daughter will arrive just in time to celebrate her daddy's sensational comeback christening. Ipswich's 30-year-old heavyweight boxed his way up from the white-collar obscurity to a headline slot at Portman Road. 3 Fabio Wardley knocked out Justis Huni Credit: Getty 3 It was a huge come from behind win Credit: Reuters 3 Wardley celebrates his huge KO Credit: Getty But he put on a performance worthy of the Tractor Boys' Prem relegation and was dominated by 26-year-old Australian Justis Huni until a sensational 10th round KO. The battered and bruised winner said: "I am so thankful to everyone here, you got me through that, I could not have done it without you. I have never claimed to be Usyk, with all the skills, but I know how to bite down on the gumshield and find a way to win. "I should have performed better but I pulled something special out of the bag. "He pulled out so many tricks and I didn't expect him to bank so many rounds But I screwed my head back on and got the job done." The 26-year-old Aussie caught the hometown hero's attention with a two-jab combination in the opener, stabbing to the body and then the head. But Wardley threatened him back with whipped right hands in spiteful Mexican Fly-branded blue gloves. The Tractor Boys could not intimidate Huni with even their loudest songs and the underdog grew in confidence in the second and scored with the cleaner and more technical shots, while Wardley headhunted bluntly. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Wardley was slapped by three meaty left hooks in the third that had the partisan crowd panicked. But then he landed a peach of a punch that stunned Huni and had him staggering backwards and covering up. Huni ran away with the fourth, cracking Wardley with a pinpoint one-two and clipping him with a left hook. Prior to his one-round demolition of Frazer Clarke, Wardley had a bad reputation for slow starts and was returning to bad habits. Wardley inexplicably dropped his hands for the middle rounds and let his face get flattened by every shot Huni threw. It was bafflingly bad boxing from a fighter who had shown freakish improvements with every previous bout. Huni landed every right hand he aimed and made a bloody mess of the Englishman. Wardley remained a punchbag for the next few, either getting terrible advice from his corner or ignoring anything worthwhile. Huni only took the challenge on five weeks notice and was doing Down Under proud with clever technical boxing and nerves of steel. But, after losing almost every round in a stinker of a performance, Wardley uncorked a life-changing shot hat dropped Huni and he failed to rise from. Wardley is now the WBA "interim" champion with Oleksandr Usyk defending his full version against Daniel Dubois on July 19 at Wembley. And Wardley's Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren insisted the comeback king will be first in line for the winner.

Chelsea reach agreement with Dortmund star and seek to seal £50m transfer
Chelsea are keen to add to their squad ahead of this summer's Club World Cup and look set to make Borussia Dortmund star and former Man City man Jamie Gittens their latest addition Chelsea look set to make Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens their FIFTH signing of the summer as Enzo Maresca bolsters his squad ahead of the Club World Cup. The Blues have already been extremely busy since the end of last season. Brazilian winger Estevao Willian is set to make his move from Palmeiras official alongside Ecuadorian youngster Kendry Paez. Chelsea have also signed Liam Delap and Dário Essugo from Ipswich and Sporting Lisbon respectively over the past week. And those signings could potentially be joined by English wideman Gittens. As first reported by French outlet RMC Sport, the West London side have agreed on a seven-year deal with the 20-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have tabled a £29.5m bid - although it's believed they'll need to go higher - and hope to get a deal secured before the first part of the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday. Gittens, an England under-21 international, was actually at Chelsea as a youngster as well as a host of other clubs. He eventually found his way to Manchester City but quit the club in 2020 as he became the latest in a long line of promising English talents to move to the Bundesliga. He has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 17 goals - 12 of which came last season. Despite still having three years left to run on his deal, it appears he will now depart Dortmund if the two clubs can agree a fee. Gittens has a £50m release clause in his contract, but Chelsea are hoping to get it done for slightly less. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl admitted earlier this year that there was potentially interest in Gittens. He said: 'There's definitely a market for him. He's a very exciting player. We'll be having discussions soon. If offers come in, we'll have to deal with them.' 'We want to reduce wages,' Kehl added. 'That said, it's possible we'll continue with some of these players. But some may no longer be part of the BVB squad next season.' Gittens will arrive at Stamford Bridge as a possible replacement for Jadon Sancho, who has departed the club after Chelsea chiefs decided not to sign him permanently following his loan. The West Londoners have decided not to activate a £25m clause in the deal, and have consequently paid a £5m penalty. In a statement on social media, the winger said: "Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home — teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful, Thank you Blues." Sancho made 45 appearances across his season with Chelsea, scoring five goals and notching ten assists as Enzo Maresca's side won the Conference League.
