Start An EV Charging Station: No Licence, Fewer Staff, Earn Up To Rs 25 Lakh Annually

News18a day ago
The general cost of setting up an EV charging point ranges between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, depending on the type of charger installed. Standard expenses include the cost of a new electrical connection, civil work, technicians and workers, maintenance, advertising, marketing, EVSE management software and integration, and site contract. Ranchi's well-known business expert Avinash has provided information regarding this.
The area required to set up a charging station depends on the type of electric vehicles to be charged and other activities available on the site.

Such charging equipment requires more than 10 square feet of space, although more importantly, it should not be less than 100 square feet, the minimum area for vehicle parking and movement.
The number of employees required is also limited. Most companies providing good charging infrastructure offer complete solutions, including equipment, software, and mobile apps at their station. Therefore, there is no need for a large number of employees or manpower at the charging stations.
Additionally, everything from payment for charging to billing is done online. Thus, one can start the business of a charging station even with a limited number of employees. The best aspect of this business in terms of licences is that no licence is needed.
According to the Ministry of Power, no licence is required to set up electric vehicle charging stations in India. Setting up stations is permitted by following the necessary rules. However, a no objection certificate must be obtained from the Forest Department and Municipal Corporation.
Assuming a 3000 kW electric charging station is installed and the charge per kilowatt is Rs 2, it can generate an income of up to Rs 2.25 lakh per month.

ED raids 9 locations in PMLA case into Sahara Group ‘ponzi scheme'

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches at nine locations in Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Sriganganagar and Mumbai on Monday under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), in connection with its investigation into an alleged 'ponzi scheme' involving the Sahara Group. In a statement, the agency's Kolkata zonal office said the probe is into Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd and several other Sahara Group entities. The ED's probe stems from three FIRs filed in Odisha, Bihar, and Rajasthan under Sections 420 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with more than 500 other FIRs registered against the group nationwide. Over 300 of these cases involve scheduled offences under the PMLA. According to the ED, Sahara Group allegedly ran a massive ponzi scheme through companies including HICCSL, SCCSL, SUMCS, SMCSL, SICCL, SIRECL, and SHICL. 'The funds were managed in an unregulated manner without depositor oversight, maturity proceeds were not repaid, and books were manipulated to camouflage such non-repayments,' the agency stated. Investigators claim the group continued to collect fresh deposits despite financial incapacity, diverting funds for questionable share transactions, benami asset creation, and personal expenses. 'Despite financial incapacity, the group continued to collect deposits, part of which was siphoned off for dubious share transactions, creation of benami assets and personal expenses,' the ED added. During Monday's raids, officials claimed to have seized incriminating documents and records, and recorded statements from key individuals. The agency has previously issued three provisional attachment orders in the case, freezing 707 acres in Amby Valley valued at nearly Rs 1,460 crore, 1,023 acres in Sahara Prime City Ltd worth Rs 1,538 crore, and movable assets belonging to Chandni Roy, wife of Sahara Group's Seemanto Roy, valued at Rs 14.75 crore.

Hubballi Airport leads in solar power generation among AAI airports

1 2 3 Hubballi: The Hubballi Airport, where an 8MW solar power plant was installed in Dec 2022, has emerged as the highest power-generating among Airport Authority of India (AAI) airports in the country. It produces 8MW of electricity per day, meeting its own needs before supplying excess power to other state airports. It's also said that Hubballi Airport is the first AAI-run facility in the country to export solar-generated power to multiple establishments. Rupesh Kumar Sripad, director of Hubballi Airport, told TOI that Hubballi is India's first airport-based solar plant supplying renewable energy to multiple airports. "The plant generated 2.4 crore units of power in the last two years. We saved Rs 12.4 crore that was supposed to be paid as the electricity bill for all AAI establishments in Karnataka. AAI establishments like Ballari Radar Station, Bengaluru Gagan Air-navigation monitoring station, Bengaluru-Devanahalli Airport-AAI staff residential colony, and Mangalore Airport AAI staff residential colony benefit from the Hubballi solar plant, whose project cost was Rs 33.2 crore," he explained. He further said, "Revenue generated from balanced energy after feeding to AAI establishments in Karnataka is Rs 2.1 crore." Sources added that the airport is selling electricity to KPTCL, earning over Rs one crore annually, while saving around Rs 3.6 crore in power bills every year. Earlier, Belagavi and Hubballi airports were shortlisted for the setting up of a solar plant, and Hubballi was preferred based on its weather history. The plant is installed by Madhav Infra Project Limited of Gujarat under the Sustainable Green Airport Mission, in an area of 38 acres, offsetting an estimated 2.1 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions during its lifespan. Thanks to such a green effort, the airport was honoured with the Platinum In The Green Airport Recognition-2025 award, meant for global green airports, in April, by Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East.
