Tens of thousands of vehicles were examined as part of a huge study which uncovered that a discontinued Hybrid and Mazda convertible are among the most reliable cars.

In the annual Which? Survey, thousands of Brits opened up about their cars and the issues that they've had with them.
The consumer advice company then crunched the numbers to determine how reliable a model is within its first four years of being manufactured, as well as those produced 5-9 years ago and 10-15 years ago.
The survey involved over 60,000 car owners who owned a total of 71,002 cars.
Lexus CT Hatchback Hybrid (2011 to 2020)
The Lexus CT200h is popular because of its low running costs and low-speed refinement.
Its petrol-electric parallel hybrid powertrain was previously used in the Toyota Prius, all the way back in 1997.
A second-hand model sells for between £5000 and £10,000 with prices varying slightly depending on the car's generation.
The Lexus CT received a refresh in 2014 and another in 2017 before finally being discontinued in 2020.
Mazda MX-5 Convertible (2005 to 2015)
The Mazda MX-5 debuted in its earliest form in 1989 but the convertible version first became available in 2005.
It won the Car of the Year Japan Award in its first year of being on the market and is known for its stylish exterior.
The vehicle also had simple on-board technology which was easy to use, alongside a sleek interior.
12
Lexus RX Hybrid (2009 to 2015)
The Lexus RX Hybrid became popular for being a low-cost car to run.
The second Lexus vehicle on this list enjoyed an immense popularity whilst on the market, thanks to its half-electric and half-petrol engine helping the car go further.
It was also famed for being a particularly quiet car, making drives even more comfortable.
Honda Jazz Hatchback (2008 to 2015)
The Honda Jazz had a bigger boot than most of its competitors, including a Ford Focus, despite being one of the smaller cars on the market.
Inside, the car was fitted with a spacious interior and a series of flaps to prevent luggage from sliding around.
It also had a raised driving position which made driving much easier.
Skoda Citigo Hatchback (2012 to 2019)
The Citigo faced a lot of comparisons to the Volkswagen Up and Seat Mii during its time on the road.
Largely, this was due to all three cars having very similar engines, structures and gearboxes.
However, what set the Citigo apart was how smooth a ride it was.
Thanks to its three-cylinder engine, the car was exceedingly cheap to run and cost less than the Volkswagen Up.
12
BMW X1 (2009 to 2015)
The BM1 X1 was shorter and narrower than the BMW 3 Series Touring range which gave it a more elegant exterior shell.
By the end of its production cycle in 2015, there were five cars in the BMW X1 range - five of which were diesel engines and one of which had a petrol engine.
The car was described at the time as 'stable' and 'composed', making it one of the more reliable vehicles on the market.
Suzuki Swift Hatchback (2010 to 2016)
The Suzuki Swift was famed for being a smooth drive, which was also quiet whilst driving on the motorway.
It received an update in 2013 which revised some of the car's interior, before a major update in 2014 which saw the car's diesel engine being swapped for a Dualjet petrol engine.
The five-speed manual gear box was easy to use and the dashboard technology was remarkably simple to use.
Toyota Yaris Hatchback (2011 to 2020)
The Toyota Yaris was hugely popular, thanks in part to its spacious and comfortable interior.
It also came with a hybrid option which offered reduced emissions with the trade-off of a fraction less boot space.
The Yaris was first launched in 1999 and helped set a new trend for cars across the world, with the implementation of a digital speedometer on the dashboard.
Suzuki Alto Hatchback (2009 to 2014)
The Suzuki Alto hatchback claimed to be one of the cleanest petrol cars on the market, when it first launched in 2009.
Although the car only measures 3.5 metres in length, its height ensures that driving always feels comfortable.
It also has a quick response time, which makes it easy to drive.
12
Toyota Auris Hatchback (2012 to 2019)
Despite having a low profile, the Auris offers a great driving position and is surprisingly roomy.
It comes with a 350 litre boot and runs on a 134bhp 1.8-litre VVT-h engine.
The Auris also has a sleek design which makes it one of the more stylish cars to take out on the road.
The cheapest second-hand cars to buy and insure
Which? have compiled a list of the cheapest second-hand cars to buy and insure.
In order to create the list, the consumer adviser quizzed 60,000 Brits about their cars.
The best value second-hand cars are:
Lexus CT Hatchback Hybrid (2011 to 2020)
Mazda MX-5 Convertible (2005 to 2015)

Toyota's Big Electric Leap: 7 New EVs Are Coming to the United States
Toyota has been picking up the pace to challenge competitors in the US EV segment, and those efforts could make it a top manufacturer over the next few years. Toyota is finally waking up Toyota's been rather sluggish on the transition to EVs, instead taking a slow approach by shifting most of its lineup from combustion engines to hybrid powertrains. Don't count Toyota out of the game just yet, though – consider the manufacturer a sleeping giant who is finally waking up. After a weak entrance into the electrified segment with the bZ4X, soon to be renamed the bZ, the Japanese automaker is ramping up production with plans to sell seven EVs in the United States by mid-2027. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:10 2025 Ford Maverick: 4 reasons to love it, 2 reasons to think twice Watch More 2026 Toyota bZ — Source: Toyota At least two EVs will be made in the United States Toyota currently has two all-electric models between its main and premium Lexus brands. The Toyota bZ4X, renamed to bZ for the 2026 model year, receives several major updates that make it more attractive, including a 314-mile range. The 2026 Lexus RZ follows suit, with improved performance and up to 300 miles of range on a single charge. Toyota also announced that the C-HR will arrive sometime in 2026, presumably for the 2027 model year, and offer a 290-mile range. 2026 Toyota C-HR — Source: Toyota Production of two new EVs will begin at its American manufacturing facilities in 2026, while three others will be imported. According to executives, the Japanese automaker expects slow but steady growth in the EV segment. If there's a surplus for American-made EVs, Toyota will export that surplus to overseas markets with faster EV adoption rates. 'We'll sell a little bit more every year and grow with the market,' Cooper Ericksen, a senior vice president of planning and strategy at Toyota Motor North America, told Bloomberg. 'But we have to think about how many Canada will use, how many the US will use, and we can then export to other global destinations.' 2026 Toyota RAV4 — Source: Toyota Toyota previously pledged to offer an electrified version of every nameplate on its global lineup. To date, approximately 80% of Toyota and Lexus models are available with hybrid or all-electric powertrains. Most recently, Toyota announced that the 2026 RAV4 will come with hybrid-only powertrains. Toyota's U.S. battery production prepares to come online Toyota plans to manufacture at least two new EVs in the United States, but their production efforts don't end there. The Japanese automaker has plans to begin producing and shipping lithium-ion batteries from its US facility later this year. The battery plant spans more than 1,850 acres in Liberty, North Carolina. Once fully operational, the facility will have 14 lines producing batteries. Of those, four will manufacture hybrid batteries, while the other 10 will supply batteries for the two American-made EVs. 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland — Source: Toyota The first hybrid battery line is expected to start production in June, with the rest beginning operations through 2034. Once all 14 lines are running, the production facility will produce up to 30 gigawatt hours, the equivalent of 800,000 hybrid, 150,000 plug-in hybrid, and 300,000 EV batteries. Toyota sold less than 30,000 EVs in 2024, during which US EV sales rose 7.3% to 1.3 million. That isn't surprising, considering the automaker has been fairly outspoken regarding government policy towards EV adoption. Instead of using incentives to speed up EV sales, such as the $7,500 tax credit, Toyota executives indicated that governmental bodies should allow the EV segment to grow organically. 2026 Toyota C-HR — Source: Toyota 'The whole EV ecosystem is ahead of the consumer,' said Jack Hollis, COO of Toyota North America, in November 2024 regarding emissions regulations. 'It's not in alignment with consumers. It's just not.' Even so, the Japanese automaker expects EV market share to double over the next five years. According to Cox Automotive, EV sales made up 8.1% of total vehicle sales in 2024. Currently, competitors like Tesla and Hyundai are dominating US EV sales. While all-electric vehicles might not be a major seller for Toyota now, executives aren't willing to cede the segment to competing manufacturers. Source: Lexus Final thoughts Tariffs aside, it looks like Toyota has a solid plan to become a true competitor in the EV segment. Considering the original bZ4X crossover was met with mixed reactions thanks to its slow charging speed, lackluster performance, and disappointing range, Toyota's upcoming EVs are a breath of fresh air. The updated bZ and RZ seem promising enough, and the upcoming C-HR looks like a stylish addition to the all-electric lineup. If the pricing is right, Toyota could very well overtake General Motors and Hyundai within a few years. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Japanese manufacturer manages to topple Tesla, too.

Inside Kia's refreshed Sportage including comfy cabin, punchy new looks and driving mode young families will love
PEOPLE say never work with children or animals. Because they're totally unpredictable. Treats will only get you so far. 5 5 But I'm not one to listen. So when Kia said Britain's favourite SUV is better for the family than ever before, I had to put it to the test. Meet Maisie and her new bestie, Bijoux the cockapoo. Two little fluff balls, perfect for having a proper rummage around the refreshed Sportage. Here are five things you need to know. 1. It's got a 'baby and toddler mode' which smooths out acceleration and driver inputs. Makes everything less jolty. So little toddlers like Maisie stay sound asleep. Happy babies = happy parents. You know that. 2. The boot. Comfortably beats a Nissan Qashqai at 587 litres v 504. Swallows pushchairs, luggage and all the usual family debris — even a dog crate to keep Bijoux safe. Which also means no muddy paws on the seats. Bonus. Some dogs will appreciate the baby mode, too. The Sun's Motors Editor, Rob Gill test drives the Kia EV3 3. New front end. OUT go the 'boomerang' lights from today's Sportage. IN comes the 'star map' LEDs inspired by Kia's growing EV line-up. Looks punchy. More aggressive. Will help Sportage stand out from the crowd. The rear lights have also been updated, as well as some other little details to keep things fresh. 4. Cabin. Absolutely nailed it. Lots of big-car tech in here but still knobs and buttons for the things that need knobs and buttons. Comfy. Roomy. Lots of handy storage, big cup holders, even USB-C charging ports in the side of the front seats for people sat in the back. Three well-equipped trim levels, not four as before. Posher versions get Apple CarPlay satnav arrows integrated into the Head-up Display. 5. Engines. Three choices — 1.6-litre petrol mild hybrid, full hybrid or plug-in hybrid. The last two have a bit more oomph than before and the option of four-wheel drive. Here's some good news for caravanners and people with weekend toys. Maximum towing capacity has increased to 1,510kg. No diesel. No pure electric. If you want to go electric next, there's a Sportage-sized EV5 coming soon. 6. Sorry, I can't count. Price. No official numbers from Kia yet but I'm guessing £31k for the petrol manual when it hits showrooms in September? That would be a lot of car at a sensible price. Maisie's parents own a Kia Niro by the way. You can guess what car they want next. 5 5

Land Rover Dropped Two New Special Editions To Celebrate 35 Years Of The Discovery
The Discovery Tempest and Discovery Gemini honor 35 years of a British off-roader icon Providing a unique take on the Discovery's versatile personality, the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest and Discovery Gemini are striking special editions that further elevate the off-roader's distinct sense of charm. Where the Discovery Tempest aims to accentuate the model's penchant for luxury and its surprisingly sporty dynamics with satin paint and large-diameter wheels, the Discovery Gemini leans in the direction of the model's sophisticated-yet-sensible, family-oriented rigidity with its understated styling and added comfort features. Both special editions of the 2025 Land Rover Discovery aim to celebrate and emphasize the SUV's timeless versatility, seamlessly blending everyday comfort with off-road ruggedness, athletic excitement, and an unmatched sense of style. 2025 Land Rover Discovery Gemini — Source: Land Rover The 2025 Land Rover Discovery Gemini is all about understated comfort The 2025 Land Rover Discovery Gemini takes its name from the rugged turbodiesel engine that powered the original, 1989 Land Rover Discovery. The Gemini is available in six different paint colors, including Sedona Red, which it borrows from the Defender and is exclusive to this model, and pairs it with a black-painted roof for contrast. Gloss black paint is a theme throughout the rest of the Gemini's exterior styling as well, with the Discovery's lower body cladding, forward wing vents, and front grille surround all painted in stealthy black. Source: Land Rover Both of the 2025 Land Rover Discovery special editions get their own unique branding graphic, with the Gemini donning a double-hexagon pattern on its fuel filler cap, throughout the interior, and projecting it through its side door puddle lamps. Source: Land Rover With a focus on understated comfort, the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Gemini comes equipped as standard with a 'host of extra comfort and convenience features, including a cooler compartment located between the front seats, powered gesture tailgate and four-zone climate control.' The Discovery Gemini is what a Chelsea boot would look like if it magically became a car. Elegantly stylish, ruggedly capable, and dynamically versatile enough to take out for a light jog, the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Gemini is the perfect all-rounder to celebrate the model's history of seductively mating form with function, unlike anything else. The 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest celebrates the SUV's first-classman athleticism 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest — Source: Land Rover Land Rover calls the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest 'the most luxurious, comfortable, and highly specified Discovery vehicle ever produced.' For the first time ever, the Land Rover Discovery can be specified from the factory with Matte Protective Film, offered over the top of either Charente Grey, Varesine Blue, or Carpathian Grey paint. Also standard is its visually striking Petra Copper Gloss roof, although a Navrik Gloss Black roof is optional. Source: Land Rover The 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest's 22-inch Diamond Turned wheels match the standard roof in their Petra Copper Gloss finish–a new colour for the Discovery lineup and one that is exclusive to the Discovery Tempest. According to Land Rover, the Tempest 'takes its name from the secret development launch program for the second‑generation Discovery vehicle launched in 1998.' Source: Land Rover Like the Discovery Gemini, the 2025 Land Rover Discovery Tempest gains its own unique badging–a spiral pattern which can be found on the Tempest's 'B-pillars, treadplates, puddle lamps, and interior finishers.' Other stylistic enhancements within the Discovery Tempest's cabin include Shadow Aluminum detailing and extended Ebony Windsor Leather upholstery. Final thoughts These two special edition Land Rover Discovery models celebrate 35 years of an icon with a pair of unique and visually striking SUVs. I do, however, wish that we could also see some more rugged editions of the Discovery, as those variants tend to be extremely popular with contemporary Defender buyers, and would likely have a similar effect on the Discovery's desirability. Regardless, and speaking as a Discovery owner myself, it's always nice to see Land Rover give much-needed attention to this model, and these unique special edition Discoveries excellently emphasize the model's signature ability to bind elegance with grit.
