Eid al-Azha: Haryana police to intensify social media monitoring, deploy more cops
State police headquarters has instructed all police commissioners, superintendents of police, and field units to remain vigilant and ensure communal harmony.
Shatrujeet Kapur, Director-General of Police, Haryana, has issued detailed instructions to all the district police chiefs to initiate steps for maintaining law and order and communal harmony during the festival. The district police chiefs are instructed to monitor social media posts and take stern action against anyone posting inflammatory content or any other content violative of the law.
Shatrujeet Kapur emphasised that 'maintaining peace, law, and order in the state is of utmost priority, and officers have been directed to ensure a harmonious atmosphere at all costs'.
The DGP's office has directed that 'meetings with peace committees be held at the district level and that advance monitoring of the law and order situation be ensured. It must be ensured that no untoward incident occurs during the festival'.
The order further states that 'special attention must be paid to the activities of anti-social elements and individuals who may attempt to disturb communal harmony. All sensitive areas should be identified, and special security arrangements must be ensured there'.
'Instructions have been given for adequate deployment of police personnel and for setting up checkpoints at religious places and sensitive areas to ensure swift response in case of any emergency. All intelligence units across the state have been instructed to remain active and provide timely, accurate, and effective inputs so that police forces can take prompt action. During the festival, monitoring of social media platforms will be intensified. Strict legal action will be taken against those posting inflammatory content or violating the law,' the order issued by the DGP's office read.
'Senior officers deployed in the field have been instructed to brief the police force properly before deployment and to personally supervise the situation on the ground. It must also be ensured by the officers that all instructions are fully complied with,' a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Visakhapatnam: Disturbed by seeing people begging and homeless persons sleeping on the roads, City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi initiated 'Jyotirgamaya'. In an effort to bring light to the dark life being led by alm-seekers in Visakhapatnam and make it a beggar-free destination, the city police initiated 'Jyotirgamaya'. The seed which was sown 10 months back derived desired results as about 243 persons who were begging in various places across the city were rescued and sheltered. Through 'Jyotirgamaya' mission, the Commissioner of Police opines that the beggars will either be sheltered or provided an opportunity to work as they have a right to lead a dignified life. The main agenda of the mission is to completely eliminate begging in Visakhapatnam and provide proper shelter to beggars and make Visakhapatnam a begging-free city. Instead of focusing on just shifting the beggars outside the city, the idea is to improve their livelihood by giving them an opportunity to work and lead a decent life. Based on their ability and age factor, the work opportunities will be provided to the beggars. With the support of NGOs and donors, they will be given a chance to take up small works. As part of the mission, Vizag City Police in coordination with a group of volunteers conducted a survey. With the support of volunteers, 243 beggars have been identified in the city. Of them, 45 were said to be healthy. They were handed over to their family members, following a counselling session. Nine of the beggars were mentally weak and they were shifted to the Government Hospital for Mental Care. About 189 people will be either rehabilitated in shelter homes or assigned work based on their capacities. To take the mission forward, control room Inspector Hussain, Harbour CI Simhadri Naidu, Special Branch CI Tirupati Rao, CI Chappa Prasad (VR) played a key role. In future, a few more people will be identified for rehabilitation. Those who can work will be given work and those who cannot will be provided shelter, the CP said. Similarly, transgenders will also be given work opportunities in future. Next, the city police are working to provide livelihood to prisoners who completed their imprisonment term.

Govt committed to uplift farmers' living standards: Narayana
Nellore: Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana has said that TDP-led coalition government is committed for uplifting the living standards of farmers by allocating funds for development of cultivation in the district. He addressed the huge gathering after hoisting the national flag on 79th Independence Day organised at Police parade grounds here on Friday. The Minister disclosed that as part of this initiative the government has taken two Lift Irrigation Canals (LICs) called Anam Sanjeeva Reddy Somasila Lift Irrigation Scheme (ASSLIS) and Anam Sanjeeva Reddy High Level Lift Canal (ASHLLC), aimed to supply water for agriculture operations in both Atmakur and Udayagiri constituencies with a total cost of Rs 1,503 crore. Widening of Somasila North Feeder Canal with Rs 632 crore meant to brought 1.5 lakh acres under citation progress in Atmakur constituency in progress. The Minister said that 32 percent of Somasila reservoir Apron works with Rs 1.17 crore were completed and the remaining is under progress. He said repair works of Somasila, Kandeleru reservoirs works with Rs 3.87crores at tender stage. Due to the availability of 44.44tmc, and 16tmcft in Somasila, and Kandaleru reservoirs respectively, it was proposed to supply water for total 5.24 lakh acres for agriculture operations in the current agriculture season.

79th I-Day celebrated on grand note
Kurnool: The Kurnool district administration on Friday celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and grandeur at the District Police Parade Ground in the city.
