Despite rain, Lima'25 concludes with 450,000 turnout for defence and aerospace expo
LANGKAWI, May 24 — The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima'25) concluded today, recording an attendance of approximately 450,000 visitors from all commercial and business sectors, both domestic and international delegations, as well as the general public.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this marks the Lima edition as a continuous platform and arena for sharing various ideas, the latest technologies, and strategic collaborations that are very important for the country.

'Even though the atmosphere is uncertain, with the rain like today, we still saw many people rushing into the exhibition hall to witness the technological developments being showcased.
'This year saw the participation of 860 exhibitors, a figure higher compared to Lima'23, consisting of 50 per cent local exhibitors and 50 per cent international exhibitors, a very commendable achievement,' he said in his closing speech at Lima'25 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) here today.
Over the course of five days, Mohamed Khaled said Lima'25 also recorded 1,400 business-to-business (B2B) meetings and 920 business-to-government (B2G) sessions.
Therefore, he said, all these achievements provide a positive outlook on the development and future of the country's defence industry, thus becoming the nation's hope and reliance to reduce the country's dependence on external parties.

Apart from the commercial aspects and business transactions, the defence minister said Lima'25 also expanded its vibrancy and excellence by recording an increase in the number of static asset exhibitions compared to previous editions.
In fact, for the first time, Lima'25 featured a high immersive experience dome, known as the A.T.M.O.S Sphere, which stands for Aerospace, Technology, Maritime, and Operations for Sustainability.
'This is a glimpse of how many more things we do not know in this world... and if we want to become a successful nation, we must have the value of always learning and uncovering things that are still unknown to us,' he added.
A.T.M.O.S Sphere is a high-tech exhibition that uses 360-degree technology and audiovisual immersion to reflect Malaysia's aspirations to lead advancements in land, sea, air and beyond.

Lima'25 is organised by the Defence Ministry, in collaboration with Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), and emphasises innovation and enhancing competitiveness among industry players in line with current technological developments.
This exhibition is the largest in the maritime and aerospace industry in Southeast Asia since it was first held in 1991. — Bernama

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the corporate figure with a 'Tan Sri' title involved has yet to be questioned as he is still warded at a private hospital. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that the misappropriation of sukuk funds for a Klang Valley highway project involved professionals and multiple companies to obscure the flow of funds. MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the professionals involved included auditors, financial experts, as well as engineers, Utusan Malaysia reported. He also said the corporate figure with a 'Tan Sri' title involved has yet to be questioned as he is still warded at a private hospital. 'Today, investigators obtained a medical assessment from the attending doctor to verify the Tan Sri's condition before we can proceed to record his statement. 'In the meantime, 45 individuals who previously gave statements have been called back to provide further information,' he said. Azam added that the investigation team is also tracking down luxury vehicles and properties belonging to the Tan Sri in London and Switzerland. He said investigations now focus on the actual value of luxury alcoholic beverages in the Tan Sri's possession, amid suspicions that some of the misappropriated funds may have been transferred to other accounts. 'At the same time, a notice for asset declaration has been issued to the Tan Sri and other relevant parties,' he added. To date, the seized assets include 14 individual bank accounts totalling RM4.5 million, eight company accounts totalling RM33 million, a luxury condominium and a plot of land valued at RM24.5 million, as well as nine vehicles worth RM7.65 million. Azam said 13 more vehicles have yet to be handed over to investigators. Also seized were luxury watches worth around RM25 million, designer handbags valued at RM3 million, jewellery and diamonds worth RM6 million, and four horses valued at RM400,000. 'RM3 million worth of alcoholic beverages, overseas assets valued at over RM15 million, and gambling activities estimated at around RM20 million are also under investigation. 'Investigations are also focussing on RM12 million in bribes allegedly paid to certain parties to facilitate the movement of funds out and back into the suspect's possession,' he said. Previously, Azam said that the anti-graft agency was investigating three cases of alleged bribery and false claims connected to the Maju Expressway Extension (MEX II). He said the first investigation paper involves false claims amounting to RM361 million which came from sukuk funds, while the second case concerns false disclosures involving RM416 million in sukuk funds and RM50 million in bank loans. The third case involves certain parties who allegedly solicited and received around RM12 million in bribes.

Bung should be the last to talk about loyalty, says Joniston

(Japen pic) PETALING JAYA : Gabungan Rakyat Sabah information chief Joniston Bangkuai today hit back at state Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin for saying it was tough to work with GRS due to its past betrayal. Joniston, who is also the Parti Bersatu Sabah information chief, said Bung was the last person who should be talking about loyalty or sincerity. 'It was Bung who conspired with Warisan and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat in January 2023 to topple the (state) government led by chief minister Hajiji Noor. 'Bung wasn't betrayed, he was the one betraying (others). 'Even while sitting in the state Cabinet, he had no respect for his colleagues in the state government led by Hajiji,' he said in a statement. He said during the political crisis, several Umno assemblymen refused to support Bung's move and instead backed Hajiji, as did Pakatan Harapan. 'If anyone needs to reflect, it's Bung. 'Why did your colleagues abandon your 'Kinabalu Move'? 'Why did PH support Hajiji instead of you? The answer is obvious: you didn't have their trust,' he said. Joniston said GRS had never been reliant on Umno and reiterated that the coalition was fully prepared to face the upcoming state election independently. Earlier today, Bung said Sabah Umno would not work with GRS in the upcoming state election and that it would only consider working with the party after the state polls. Citing his party's 'dark and bitter' past with GRS, Bung said they needed to practise caution in working with the coalition again. PH and Barisan Nasional have already announced an alliance for the Sabah polls, which must be held by the end of the year. This prompted GRS to threaten to go solo. GRS and PH are currently allies in Hajiji's state government while BN sits in the opposition in the Sabah legislative assembly. However, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim had expressed confidence that PH, BN and GRS would be able to agree on an alliance for the state election. Last week, the prime minister said discussions among the three coalitions were ongoing. Despite the negotiations, several Sabah BN and GRS leaders have traded barbs over the past few weeks, including Bung and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president Jeffrey Kitingan.

Ringgit closes slightly higher on cautious sentiment
KUALA LUMPUR : The ringgit closed higher against the dollar today, as traders remain cautious ahead of US president Donald Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping's expected meeting this week, said an analyst. SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes said traders are slipping into a wait-and-see approach ahead of the Trump-Xi meeting, which could be a key factor in market risk for the rest of the week. 'Given that the US is the world's leading importer and China its largest exporter, their relationship could shift market sentiment in favour of the dollar, easing concerns about supply chain disruptions and imported inflation. 'This dynamic leaves emerging currencies like the ringgit in a reactive position – caught between two economic superpowers whose trade decisions heavily influence global pricing trends,' he told Bernama. At 6pm, the local note inched higher to 4.2425/4.2485 versus the greenback from last Friday's close of 4.2530/4.2605. At the close, the ringgit traded lower against a basket of major currencies. It slipped against the Japanese yen to 2.9695/2.9739 from Friday's close of 2.9531/2.9585, eased vis-a-vis the euro to 4.8415/4.8484 from 4.8169/4.8254, and depreciated against the British pound to 5.7337/5.7418 from 5.7284/5.7385 previously. The local note traded mixed against its Asean peers. It was slightly higher versus the Indonesian rupiah at 260.1/260.6 compared to 260.4/261.1 on Friday, and gained against the Philippine peso to 7.61/7.63 from 7.62/7.64 previously. However, it fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.2967/3.3016 from 3.2938/3.3002 on Friday and weakened vis-a-vis the Thai baht to 13.0334/13.0603 from 12.9507/12.9790 previously.
